Mit den Niederlanden sind hier nicht die heutigen Niederlande - gewöhnlich aber fälschlich Holland genannt - gemeint, sondern die historische Niederlande, die die heutigen Niederlande (N) und Belgien (B) umfassen. Da Migration immer stattgefunden hat, sind im Laufe der Jahrhunderte zahlreiche Bewohner deutschsprachiger Länder in niederländisches Gebiet eingewandert. Vor etwa 1800 war der Familienname noch nicht zu etwas Unabänderlichen erstarrt. Er konnte z. B. übersetzt werden

West Flemish verb-based discourse markers and the articulation of the Speech Act layer

This paper focuses on the West Flemish discourse markers located at the edge of the clause. After a brief survey of the distribution of discourse markers in WF, the paper proposes a syntactic analysis of the discourse markers ne and we. Based on the distribution of these discourse markers, of vocatives and of dislocated DPs, an articulated speech act layer is elaborated which corroborates the proposals in Hill (). It is postulated that there is a syntactic relation between particles used as discourse markers and vocatives. The paper offers further support for the grammaticalization of pragmatic features at the interface between syntax and discourse and for the hypothesis that the relevant computation at the interface is of the same nature as that in Narrow Syntax

Structural determinants of opioid and NOP receptor activity in derivatives of buprenorphine

The unique pharmacological profile of buprenorphine has led to its considerable success as an analgesic and as a treatment agent for drug abuse. Activation of nociceptin/orphanin FQ peptide (NOP) receptors has been postulated to account for certain aspects of buprenorphine’s behavioural profile. In order to investigate the role of NOP activation further, a series of buprenorphine analogues has been synthesised with the aim of increasing affinity for the NOP receptor. Binding and functional assay data on these new compounds indicate that the area around C20 in the orvinols is key to NOP receptor activity, with several compounds displaying higher affinity than buprenorphine. One compound, 1b, was found to be a mu opioid receptor partial agonist of comparable efficacy to buprenorphine, but with higher efficacy at NOP receptors

Das Große Sterben. 100 Jahre Erster Weltkrieg – Spurensuche an Kriegs- und Gedenkorten in Belgien

Im August 2014 jährt sich der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges (1914-1918) zum 100. Mal. Im Sommer 1914 entfesselte Europa einen unfassbar grausamen, erstmals global ausgetragenen Konflikt mit Folgen, die unsere Gegenwart bis heute prägen. Was uns Deutschen allerdings häufig wenig bewusst ist und bei unseren Nachbarn in Europa für Irritationen sorgen kann: In Deutschland scheinen die Millionen toten Soldaten und Zivilisten des Krieges von 1914-1918 nahezu vergessen zu sein. Das Gedenken steht hier ganz im Schatten des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Der Große Krieg, wie Belgier, Briten und Franzosen noch heute den Ersten Weltkrieg nennen, ist dagegen im kollektiven Gedächtnis unserer (west-)europäischen Nachbarn und anderer Nationen wie Australien, Neuseeland oder Kanada tief verankert. Wie können wir daher heute für die Dimensionen dieser „Urkatastrophe des 20. Jahrhunderts“ (George F. Kennan) und die Spuren, die sie bis heute hinterlassen hat, sensibilisieren? Wie können wir dazu beitragen, dass wir den Ersten Weltkrieg (wieder) stärker als Teil unserer eigenen Geschichte begreifen? Wie können wir aktiver werden, um ein gemeinsames - oder sich zumindest Europäisch / transnational verstehendes - Erinnern und Gedenken zu fördern? Konfrontiert mit dieser Herausforderung haben die Autoren ein Konzept für ein mehrtägiges Vor-Ort-Seminar zum Ersten Weltkrieg entwickelt, mit einer europäisierten und transnationalen Perspektive und exemplarisch anhand der Ereignisse und Erfahrungen der Soldaten und Zivilisten an der damaligen Westfront in Belgien. Dieser Beitrag möchte einen Einblick in die Praxis historisch-politischer Bildungsarbeit geben und liefert anschauliche Informationen zum Seminar, das im Sommer 2014 bereits zweimal durchgeführt wurde. Dies umfasst Konzept und Programm, Zielgruppe, Lernziele, Lehrmethoden, inkl. Literaturhinweise, sowie Seminarergebnisse, Eindrücke und Erfahrungen. (DIPF/Autor)In August 2014 the one hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of the first world war (1914-1918) takes place. In the summer of 1914 Europe unleashed an incredibly atrocious conflict, fought for the first time globally and with consequences which have been shaping our world up to the present day. However, we as Germans are often not very aware of a fact that might cause irritations amongst our neighbours in Europe: In Germany, the millions of dead soldiers and civilians of the war 1914-18 seem to be almost forgotten. Remembrance here is entirely overshadowed by the second world war. By contrast, the Great War, so called by Belgians, the British and the French until today, is deeply rooted in the collective memories of our (west-)European neighbours and other nations such as Australia, New Zealand or Canada. Therefore, a relevant question is how can we raise awareness for the dimensions of this "great seminal catastrophe of the 20th century" (George F. Kennan) and the traces it has left behind to the present? How can we contribute to a (renewed) deeper comprehension of the first world war as part of our own history? How can we get more active in promoting a common - or at least mutually informed European / transnational - way of remembering and commemorating? Faced with this challenge, the authors have developed a concept for a multi-day field visit seminar on World War I, with a Europeanized and transnational perspective, exemplary through the events and experiences of soldiers and civilians at the former western front in Belgium. This article aims to provide an insight into the practice of historical-political educational work, and provides illustrating information about the seminar which has already been conducted on two occasions in Summer 2014.
