How has the announcement of the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccine impacted the market?

As COVID-19 has hit the whole world hard, finding a vaccine that alleviates its effects has been one of the most anticipated events in 2020. This work studies the impact of the two main events in 2020 on companies’ stock exchange activities: announcing COVID19 as a world pandemic and announcing the first coronavirus vaccine. This study was carried out by an event study methodology using Nasdaq-100 data. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and quantile (Q) regression were used to obtain the returns expected from shares and to assess if there were any significant differences in the reactions of the analysed sectors on the market in each event window. The obtained empirical results show different share performances by sectors. Specifically, only those shares from the technology sector positively and significantly reacted to the first announcement. However, the opposite can be stated of the second event insofar as confidence in financial markets recovered to a greater extent in the sectors hardest hit by the first announcement. These conclusions are meaningful for companies, investors and governments to make better decisions or to adopt new policies

Percepciones sobre el uso de la aplicación Microsoft Teams en la docencia: Perspectiva de los docentes y de los estudiantes

[EN] As a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) a synchronous non-face-to-face teaching model was implemented through the Microsoft Teams application in the second semester of the 2019/20 academic year. In the first semester of the 2020/21 academic year, a hybrid teaching model, also guided with this application prevailed. The objective of this work is to comprehend how teachers and students perceived and experienced the integration of the Microsoft Teams application in teaching, especially to find out its effectiveness as a teaching tool. The results shown that teachers experienced concerns with the implementation of Teams in teaching, although it mostly ceased, and they also consider that both hybrid and synchronous non-face-to-face teaching using Teams are effective in the teaching process, but not so much in the learning process. However, students stated that the traditional teaching model is more effective than a hybrid teaching employing the Microsoft Teams application.[ES] Como consecuencia de la pandemia del Covid-19, en la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) se implantó un modelo docente no presencial síncrono a través de la aplicación Microsoft Teams en el segundo cuatrimestre del curso 2019/20. En el primer cuatrimestre del curso 2020/21 predominó un modelo docente híbrido guiado también con dicha aplicación. El objetivo de este trabajo es conocer la percepción, tanto de los docentes como de los estudiantes, sobre la incorporación de la aplicación Microsoft Teams en la docencia, especialmente para averiguar si éstos la consideran una herramienta eficaz. Los resultados sobre la percepción de los docentes concluyen que, éstos sintieron una preocupación con la incorporación del Teams en la docencia, aunque ésta mayoritariamente desapareció, y también consideran que, tanto la docencia híbrida como la no presencial síncrona impartidas con el Teams son eficaces en el proceso de enseñanza, pero no tanto en el proceso de aprendizaje. The role of the digital information sources in the art market prices

The objective of this study is to measure the relationship between the digital information sources (Google, Yahoo and Encyclopaedia Britannica) and the turnover of the international art auction houses. The effect of the art turnover (estimated during the period 1997-2006) on the information sources (estimated on January 2007) was analyzed. The results showed a major influence of turnovers on the Net (mainly Google than Yahoo) than on the Encyclopaedia sources. Investigación, desarrollo e innovación en materia de energías renovables: la urgencia de Europa por ser energéticamente independiente

[ES] El repunte del consumo de energía que se ha producido tras la fase aguda de la pandemia COVID-19 ha supuesto, a lo largo de 2021, un incremento en los precios de la energía que, tras la invasión rusa de Ucrania, han alcanzado importantes picos no previstos por los analistas. La incertidumbre en torno a la seguridad del suministro de gas natural que necesita Europa para acometer la transición energética, ha conducido a un replanteamiento de la estrategia de descarbonización que los representantes europeos se plantearon durante la COP21 de París. En este artículo analizamos el comportamiento y tendencias del mercado del gas natural, con especial enfoque en la situación en Europa, y analizaremos las consecuencias que está teniendo la actual crisis energética y económica generada por el previsible incumplimiento ruso de los acuerdos de suministro de gas natural a Europa tras la condena europea de la invasión rusa de Ucrania.[EN] The spike in energy consumption following the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic has led, throughout 2021, to an increase in energy prices which, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, have reached significant peaks not foreseen by analysts. The uncertainty surrounding the security of natural gas supply that Europe needs to undertake the energy transition has led to a reassessment of the decarbonisation strategy that European representatives proposed during the COP21 in Paris. Electronic prescription and dispensation pharmaceutical system at the Health Valencian Agency, Spain

The electronic prescription and dispensation system is a breakthrough in the use of new technologies in the National Health System. It involves the improvement of processes of prescribing and dispensing pharmacotherapy and the coordination of health professionals. Also, for patients with long-term treatments, the system helps to reduce the frequency of primary care center visits and improves patient safety by reducing mistakes in prescriptions written by hand. The system requires the interconnection and functioning of many information systems to be integrated and work well together with the infrastructure of the data processing center that is responsible for distributing information to all healthcare centers. In this way, improvements of the electronic prescription system on healthcare will be analyzed (decrease of physician visits, reduction in medical errors, increase in therapeutic compliance by patients)

Rol de los medios de información digitales en los precios en los mercados de arte

Se mide la relación entre los medios de informa ción digitales (Google, Yahoo y Enciclopedia Británica) y las ventas en las principales casas de subastas internacionales de obras de arte. Se analiza la ca - pacidad de explicación que las ventas realizadas en el mercado del arte durante los años 1997- 2006 tienen sobre las fuentes de información seleccionadas en enero de 2007, observándose una mayor influencia en la Red que en las fuentes enciclopédi - cas, y mayor en Google que en Yahoo. La Numismática como objeto de inversión y valoración

This paper shows an introduction to the economical valuation of the area of numismatics. The study analyzes the more important explanatory variables that determine the fair value of a coin. The most relevant variables are: the conservation grade, the mint and the age. Also, diversified efficient numismatic portfolios have been proposed. The results obtained show how the classical investor (the one who only invests in the stock market) can improve the characteristics return-risk of his/her investment.En este artículo se realiza una introducción a la valoración económica en el sector de la numismática. A tal efecto, se describen las variables explicativas más importantes del valor de mercado de una moneda, calculando un modelo de regresión múltiple. Las variables más representativas son: el estado de conservación, la tirada y la antigüedad.Asimismo, se han propuesto carteras diversificadas numismáticas. Los resultados obtenidos permiten al inversor clásico (aquél que sólo invierte en el mercado bursátil) mejorar las características rentabilidad-riesgo de su inversión
