Time evolution of the classical and quantum mechanical versions of diffusive anharmonic oscillator: an example of Lie algebraic techniques
We present the general solutions for the classical and quantum dynamics of
the anharmonic oscillator coupled to a purely diffusive environment. In both
cases, these solutions are obtained by the application of the
Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff (BCH) formulas to expand the evolution operator in an
ordered product of exponentials. Moreover, we obtain an expression for the
Wigner function in the quantum version of the problem. We observe that the role
played by diffusion is to reduce or to attenuate the the characteristic quantum
effects yielded by the nonlinearity, as the appearance of coherent
superpositions of quantum states (Schr\"{o}dinger cat states) and revivals.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, 2 table
Effects of dietary beef tallow on performance, rumen fermentation, carcass traits and meat quality of growing lambs
Growing lambs were evaluated for the effect of increasing dietary levels of beef tallow (BT) on performance, rumen fermentation, and carcass and meat characteristics. Twenty-one 5-month-old male Rambouillet lambs were assigned randomly to one of three diets with 0, 20, and 40 g BT/kg dry matter (DM) and similar energy and protein contents. Lambs were adapted to the diets for 15 days, followed by a 45-day evaluation trial. Data were analysed using a mixed model. Growth, feed intake and ruminal fermentation were not affected by the dietary level of BT. Daily metabolizable energy intake (MEI), carcass yield and degree of fatness, increased linearly as the BT level increased. Carcass classification and muscle conformation were not affected by BT. Most meat characteristics (texture, pH, myoglobin, protein content, colour, cathepsins, and chemical composition) five and eight days post-mortem were not affected, except for fat content in meat, which increased linearly as diet BT level increased. Fatty acid (FA) profiles of the meat from lambs fed the three diets were similar. In conclusion, addition of BT at 20 and 40 g/kg DM to diets for growing lambs allowed reduced grain usage and increased forage levels (from 0 to 270 g/kg DM), increasing energy intake, carcass yield and fatness, and intramuscular fat without causing harmful effects on growth, feed intake or ruminal fermentation characteristics.

Tight-binding study of the influence of the strain on the electronic properties of InAs/GaAs quantum dots
We present an atomistic investigation of the influence of strain on the
electronic properties of quantum dots (QD's) within the empirical tight-binding (ETB) model with interactions up to 2nd nearest neighbors
and spin-orbit coupling. Results for the model system of capped pyramid-shaped
InAs QD's in GaAs, with supercells containing atoms are presented and
compared with previous empirical pseudopotential results. The good agreement
shows that ETB is a reliable alternative for an atomistic treatment. The strain
is incorporated through the atomistic valence force field model. The ETB
treatment allows for the effects of bond length and bond angle deviations from
the ideal InAs and GaAs zincblende structure to be selectively removed from the
electronic-structure calculation, giving quantitative information on the
importance of strain effects on the bound state energies and on the physical
origin of the spatial elongation of the wave functions. Effects of dot-dot
coupling have also been examined to determine the relative weight of both

On the choice of heavy baryon currents in the relativistic three-quark model
We test the sensitivity of bottom baryon observables with regard to the
choice of the interpolating three-quark currents within the relativistic
three-quark model. We have found that the semileptonic decay rates are clearly
affected by the choice of currents, whereas the asymmetry parameters show only
a very weak dependence on the choice of current.Comment: revtex, 9 page
Penrose limit and string quantization in AdS_3 \times S^3
We consider corrections to the Penrose limit of AdS_3 \times S^3 with NS-NS
flux which are due to the terms next to leading order in inverse radius
expansion. The worldsheet theory of a lightcone string is interacting due to
the presence of quartic terms in the action. Perturbative corrections to the
spectrum are shown to agree with the results from the exact quantization in

On the Entropy of a Quantum Field in the Rotating Black Holes
By using the brick wall method we calculate the free energy and the entropy
of the scalar field in the rotating black holes. As one approaches the
stationary limit surface rather than the event horizon in comoving frame, those
become divergent. Only when the field is comoving with the black hole (i.e.
) those become divergent at the event horizon. In the
Hartle-Hawking state the leading terms of the entropy are , where is the cut-off in the radial coordnate near the
horizon. In term of the proper distance cut-off it is written as . The origin of the divergence is that the density of state

Apesar do crescente interesse pela agricultura orgânica, são poucas as informações de pesquisa disponíveis sobre o assunto. Assim, num Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo distrófico foram comparados os efeitos de sistemas de cultivo orgânico e convencional, para as culturas do tomate (Lycopersicum esculentum) e do milho (Zea mays), sobre a comunidade de organismos do solo e suas atividades. As populações de fungos,bactérias e actinomicetos, determinadas pela contagem de colônias em meio de cultura, foram semelhantes para os dois sistemas de produção. A atividade microbiana, avaliada pela evolução de CO2, manteve-se superior no sistema orgânico, sendo que em determinadas avaliações foi o dobro da evolução verificada no sistema convencional. O número de espécimes de minhoca foi praticamente dez vezes maior no sistema orgânico. Não foi observada diferença na taxa de decomposição de matéria orgânica entre os dois sistemas. De modo geral, o número de indivíduos de microartrópodos foi superior no sistema orgânico do que no sistema convencional, refletindo no maior índice de diversidade de Shannon. As maiores populações de insetos foram as da ordem Collembola, enquanto para os ácaros a maior população foi a da superfamília Oribatuloidea. Indivíduos dos grupos Aranae, Chilopoda, Dyplopoda, Pauropoda, Protura e Symphyla foram ocasionalmente coletados e de forma similar entre os sistemas
Angle-resolved photoemission in doped charge-transfer Mott insulators
A theory of angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) in doped cuprates and other
charge-transfer Mott insulators is developed taking into account the realistic
(LDA+U) band structure, (bi)polaron formation due to the strong electron-phonon
interaction, and a random field potential. In most of these materials the first
band to be doped is the oxygen band inside the Mott-Hubbard gap. We derive the
coherent part of the ARPES spectra with the oxygen hole spectral function
calculated in the non-crossing (ladder) approximation and with the exact
spectral function of a one-dimensional hole in a random potential. Some unusual
features of ARPES including the polarisation dependence and spectral shape in
YBa2Cu3O7 and YBa2Cu4O8 are described without any Fermi-surface, large or
small. The theory is compatible with the doping dependence of kinetic and
thermodynamic properties of cuprates as well as with the d-wave symmetry of the

Applicability of perturbative QCD to decays
We develop perturbative QCD factorization theorem for the semileptonic heavy
baryon decay , whose form factors are
expressed as the convolutions of hard quark decay amplitudes with universal
and baryon wave functions. Large logarithmic
corrections are organized to all orders by the Sudakov resummation, which
renders perturbative expansions more reliable. It is observed that perturbative
QCD is applicable to decays for velocity transfer
greater than 1.2. Under requirement of heavy quark symmetry, we predict the
branching ratio , and determine

Charged lepton Flavor Violation in Supersymmetry with Bilinear R-Parity Violation
The simplest unified extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model
with bi-linear R-parity violation naturally predicts a hierarchical neutrino
mass spectrum, suitable to explain atmospheric and solar neutrino fluxes. We
study whether the individual violation of the lepton numbers L_{e,mu,tau} in
the charged sector can lead to measurable rates for BR(mu->e gamma)and
$BR(tau-> mu gamma). We find that some of the R-parity violating terms that are
compatible with the observed atmospheric neutrino oscillations could lead to
rates for mu->e gamma measurable in projected experiments. However, the Delta
m^2_{12} obtained for those parameters is too high to be compatible with the
solar neutrino data, excluding therefore the possibility of having measurable
