A prediction model based on data mining to forecast the expectations of passing from a college student

The present work has as objective to apply data mining techniques to develop a predictive model to forecast the chance of passing that will have a college student at the time of enrolling in a particular subject. Given that the academic record of the student can be known, and based on that information, we propose an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) that allows, using various configurations, to predict and assess our goal. The model has been applied to a compulsory subject of higher education of a University and given the results obtained. This model can be applied to any other subject analogous with satisfactory results

A study of fuzzy data bases: an application to a Peruvian case

This paper aims to show the various types of data that contain in an intrinsically way fuzzy or imperfect data that are presented in the real world. A form of implementation is described that allows extending the capabilities of a database by using layers levels, emphasizing in the concept of inheritance. Role and dynamics of the ribosomal protein p0 and its related trans-acting factor Mrt4 during ribosome assembly in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Mrt4 is a nucleolar component of the ribosome assembly machinery that shares notable similarity and competes for binding to the 25S rRNA GAR domain with the ribosomal protein P0. Here, we show that loss of function of either P0 or Mrt4 results in a deficit in 60S subunits, which is apparently due to impaired rRNA processing of 27S precursors. Mrt4, which shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm, defines medium pre-60S particles. In contrast, P0 is absent from medium but present in late/cytoplasmic pre-60S complexes. The absence of Mrt4 notably increased the amount of P0 in nuclear Nop7–TAP complexes and causes P0 assembly to medium pre-60S particles. Upon P0 depletion, Mrt4 is relocated to the cytoplasm within aberrant 60S subunits. We conclude that Mrt4 controls the position and timing of P0 assembly. In turn, P0 is required for the release of Mrt4 and exchanges with this factor at the cytoplasm. Our results also suggest other P0 assembly alternatives

Traqueostomía percutánea por dilatación sin fibrobroncoscopio en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del Hospital Carlos Alberto Seguín Escobedo, Arequipa 2011-2014

Objetivo: Describir la experiencia de traqueostomía percutánea por dilatación (TPD) sin fibrobroncospio en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) del Hospital Nacional Carlos Alberto Seguín Escobedo (EsSalud), Arequipa. Materiales y métodos: Estudio restrospectivo y  descriptivo. Se recolectaron los registros de pacientes desde el 2011 hasta el 2014, a los que serealizó TPD sin fibrobroncoscopio. Se evaluaron variables demográficas, tiempo de realización  de las TPD, diagnóstico de ingreso, comorbilidades asociadas, APACHE II, indicaciones de raqueostomía y complicaciones. Resultados: De las 94 TPD, el 48.9% fueron varones; la  edad promedio fue 60,3 ± 19,7 años; el 35,1 % procedieron del servicio de emergencia; el score APACHE II fue de 18,1 ± 5,8 puntos. Se estimó un tiempo promedio de 14,6 ± 12,6 días  para la realización de las traqueostomías. Al 97,9% se les realizó traqueostomía tardía. A 17 pacientes (18,1%) se les practicó una ecografía cervical; el 14,9 % tuvieron como diagnóstico de ingreso a la UCI TEC grave; la mayor indicación fue la falla neurológica con el 47,8%. Las complicaciones perioperatorias immediatas no mortales fueron: hemorragia leve, infección del estoma, hipotensión, enfisema subcutáneo y falsa vía. Se presentó una complicación mortal por hemorragia severa relacionada al procedimiento y la complicación tardía más frecuente fue estenosis subglótica. Finalmente, se halló una sobrevida global del 71,3%. Conclusiones: La TPD mediante la técnica Ciaglia Blue Rhino sin la asistencia de fibrobroncoscopio y a la  cabecera del paciente sería un procedimiento seguro y con baja incidencia de complicaciones severas

Lobophorin K, a new natural product with cytotoxic activity produced by Streptomyces sp. M-207 associated with the deep-sea coral Lophelia pertusa

The present article describes the isolation of a new natural product of the lobophorin family, designated as lobophorin K (1), from cultures of the marine actinobacteria Streptomyces sp. M-207, previously isolated from the cold-water coral Lophelia pertusa collected at 1800 m depth during an expedition to the submarine Avilés Canyon. Its structure was determined using a combination of spectroscopic techniques, mainly ESI-TOF MS and 1D and 2D NMR. This new natural product displayed cytotoxic activity against two human tumor cell lines, such as pancreatic carcinoma (MiaPaca-2) and breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7). Lobophorin K also displayed moderate and selective antibiotic activity against pathogenic Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus

The contribution of meteorological parameters and the COVID-19 partial lockdown on air quality in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This study evaluated the pollutant levels (NO2, SO2, CO, and O3), air quality index (AQI) and the influence of meteorological variables and coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on the air quality in Rio de Janeiro. The data set used comprises periods before (March-April, 2019) and during pandemic (March-April, 2020). According to the AQI results, on most days, the air quality was ranked as “good”. Brazilian air quality standards for SO2, O3, and NO2 were not exceeded in any of the monitoring stations during partial lockdown, while CO exceeded in all periods in one site due to industrial emission. Comparing both periods, descriptive statistics for the meteorological parameters presented no differences, which suggests similar conditions. However, when evaluated week by week in 2020, weather conditions presented some differences that probably affected pollutant concentrations. The correlations between O3 and NO2 and some meteorological parameters indicate that variations in both favored ozone formation, since it is a photochemical process favored by temperature and solar radiation and that, in Rio de Janeiro, low NO2 concentrations lead to increased O3. The improvements on air quality during the partial lockdown may be attributed mainly to a reduction on emission sources rather than weather conditions.Campus Lima Centr
