This paper illustrates a new approach to labeling ("object classification") problems, and it targets the simplification of a (computationally) complex algorithm based on Faugeras and Berthod's theorem.

Data Warehouse Design and Management: Theory and Practice

    Get PDF
The need to store data and information permanently, for their reuse in later stages, is a very relevant problem in the modern world and now affects a large number of people and economic agents. The storage and subsequent use of data can indeed be a valuable source for decision making or to increase commercial activity. The next step to data storage is the efļ¬cient and effective use of information, particularly through the Business Intelligence, at whose base is just the implementation of a Data Warehouse. In the present paper we will analyze Data Warehouses with their theoretical models, and illustrate a practical implementation in a speciļ¬c case study on a pharmaceutical distribution companyData warehouse, database, data model.

Link Stability inWireless Multi-Rate Ad Hoc Networks

    Get PDF
Wireless ad hoc single-rate environments typically use a Distance Vector routing with a metric based on hop-count minimization. In practice, the technique of minimizing the distance does not reward in the case of multirate, therefore it may be prefereable to use protocols privileging link stability instead of speed and minimum distance. We study link stability in a wireless high mobility environment and propose a Route Discovery mechanism privileging the stablest link.VPN; Network; Protocol.

An Analisys of Business VPN Case Studies

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) simulates a secure private network through a shared public insecure infrastructure like the Internet. The VPN protocol provides a secure and reliable access from home/office on any networking technology transporting IP packets. In this article we study the standards for VPN implementation and analyze two case studies regarding a VPN between two routers and two firewalls.VPN; Network; Protocol.

A Data Set Generation Algorithm in Combinatorial Auctions

    Get PDF
The generation of realistic data sets in a Combinatorial Auction may be a challenging problem. Well-formed data sets are very useful in the evaluation of algorithms trying to solve the winner determination problem. In this paper a general data set generation scheme is presented, both from an algorithmic and economic point of view. As a case study, a possible auction setting is discussed where the goods on sale are connections between points in space.bid, combinatorial auction, data set generation.

Defining the Potential of Extended Reality Tools for Implementing Co-creation of User Oriented Products and Systems

    Get PDF
In the last two decades a huge number of interactive and collaborative applications of Virtual Environments for designing products has been proposed. Such applications have been recommended as tools to implement Human Centered Design Approach in experiments where potential users are involved in participatory design sessions before going for production. In this kind of experiments, we observe that users are mainly involved in the validation of solutions previously elaborated by designers while in the last decade the most innovative approach in the creation of solutions seems to be moving from a user centered design to a co-design or co-creation process. Thus, it is essential to have a platform where the elements of co-creation can be fulfilled in building a successful project. The purpose of this paper is to outline the concept of co creation and the significance of co-creation platforms alongside of proposing innovative tools for building the co-creative environments. The paper aims to layout a classification of the Extended Reality (XR) tools currently available and of their functionality as valuable means to actually embed co-design and co creation concepts in Virtual Environments evaluating the advantages that this can bring to Industry through field studies. A review of innovative solutions like Virtual, Augmented and Mixed reality technologies is examined and drawn towards the requirements of the concept through a literature research. Additionally, a co-creative environment for designing aircraft cabin interiors is conceived and discussed a with company representative

Artificial Neural Networks in Financial Modelling

    Get PDF
The study of Artificial Neural Networks derives from first trials to translate in mathematical models the principles of biological processing. An Artificial Neural Network deals with generating, in the fastest times, an implicit and predictive model of the evolution of a system. In particular, it derives from experience its ability to be able to recognize some behaviours or situations and to suggest how to take them into account. This work illustrates an approach to the use of Artificial Neural Networks for Financial Modelling; we aim to explore the structural differences (and implications) between one- and multi- agent and population models. In one-population models, ANNs are involved as forecasting devices with wealth-maximizing agents (in which agents make decisions so as to achieve an utility maximization following non-linear models to do forecasting), while in multipopulation models agents do not follow predetermined rules, but tend to create their own behavioural rules as market data are collected. In particular, it is important to analyze diversities between one-agent and one-population models; in fact, in building one-population model it is possible to illustrate the market equilibrium endogenously, which is not possible in one-agent model where all the environmental characteristics are taken as given and beyond the control of the single agent.artificial neural network, financial modelling, population model, market equilibrium.

A Neural Network Model for Forecasting Photovoltaic Deployment in Italy

    Get PDF
The photovoltaic (PV) industry in Italy has already crossed the threshold of 1 GW of installed capacity. Currently there are approximately 70,000 certified facilities in operation for a power generation of 1,300 GWh/year. With these figures, Italy has become the second country in Europe for PV installed power after Germany. The energy produced would be sufficient to meet the power needs of approximately 1,200,000 people. This leads to some questions: Will this technology continue to grow exponentially even after the recent reduction in rates by the Energy Bill? Will the number of installed PV facilities still grow even with less public support and (probably) a reduction in the technology purchase price? The purpose of this paper is therefore to develop a conceptual model to make a prediction of the PV installed power in Italy through the use of ā€œsupervisedā€ artificial neural networks. This model is also applied to the analysis of the spread of this technology in some other European countries

La progettazione di un sistema distribuito orientato alla didattica

    Get PDF

EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES FOR PRELIMINARY USER CENTRED EVALUATION OF REGIONAL AICRAFT CABIN INTERIORS IN VIRTUAL REALITY

    Get PDF
One of the main aims of the Horizon 2020 CASTLE (Cabin System Design Towards Passenger Wellbeing) project is to deliver innovative cabin interiors solutions that maximize the comfort and wellbeing of passengers in the next future. In order to achieve such an ambitious objective, an effective HCD (Human Centred Design) approach has been put in place to derive a Human Response Model based on a holistic assessment of comfort. Therefore, the overall CASTLE HCD methodology has been conceived to provide different tools and methods to collect data on the impact that the design of each cabin item has on the user from the earliest design stages. One of these tools is represented by the use of 3D mock-ups in Virtual/Augmented Reality environments to capture data on the user\u2019s perception and to rate the level of appraisal inspired by the specific design solution. In this paper we present the experimental procedures for the Human in the loop simulations in Virtual Reality Environment of the Regional Aircraft solutions provided in the CASTLE Project. First, we introduce the overall procedure plan. Then, we describe the work done for the creation of the Virtual Environment for different scenarios (user standing in the cabin, Galley, Lavatory) and for the subjective evaluation of these cabin items
