LGBT Elder Initiative Thrivers Program Evaluation

Introduction: Aging with HIV is a critical area of study, especially as the generation that was initially affected by the disease grows older. The LGBT Elder Initiative (LGBT EI) is an organization in Philadelphia that supports and advocates for older members in the LGBT community. The LGBT EI Thrivers program is a community group that meets monthly to discuss what it means to “thrive” with HIV. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the LGBT EI’s Thrivers program and determine what motivates older individual with HIV to become involved in this program and identify the impact of the program. Methods: A questionnaire was handed out at the final Thriver’s meeting of the year in October of 2019. This questionnaire asked participants which meetings they attended, if they made any changes in their daily lifestyle based on those meetings, and what motivated them to attend. Participants were also asked what aspects of the program they would like to see changed or modified. Results: 13 participants responded to the questionnaire. The results show that the average age of participants was 52 years. Overall, respondents were satisfied with the meeting location and time, and felt comfortable sharing their thoughts with the group. The questionnaire revealed that Thrivers attendees did make changes in their daily lives based on the meetings they attended. Conclusions: The Thrivers program participants found the community discussion helpful and were motivated incorporate what they learned from the program into their daily lives. Multiple respondents disclosed that they have begun practicing gratitude after learning about it at Thrivers, and this discussion seems to have had the largest impact on attendees. We believe that future programs that incorporate new topics and expand upon previous topics will be beneficial to Thrivers participants

Teaching Tip: A Scalable Hybrid Introductory Analytics Course

We report on the design and development of an introductory analytics course delivered to almost 10,000 undergraduate business students to date. One novel aspect of the course is its orientation to add analytics capabilities to a business student’s toolbox, resulting in significant design and implementation implications. We anchored the course on three fundamental principles: maximizing learning, operating at scale, and a consistent experience for all learners. To enable a rigorous and valuable learning experience, the underlying course curriculum is based on the modified CRISP-DM (CRoss Industry Standard Process for Data Mining) framework. Bloom’s taxonomy is applied to the course assessments to evaluate the depth of learning. The course is delivered in a hybrid mode, arguably the best combination of online and face-to-face delivery modes. In a naturally occurring experimental setting, the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the evolution of the course and generated additional reinforcing lessons. We explore those lessons and suggest directions for further research

Roles for the IS Executive: A Conceptual Model

    Get PDF
Many roles have been proposed for the IS executive (ISE). The roles combine to form a superset from which the organization and the ISE each choose a subset of roles to emphasize. It is proposed that the fit between the two subsets affects ISE success. In turn, the success of the ISE leads to IS success. The paper concludes with suggested empirical tests of the model

Capabilities and Skill Configurations of Information Security Incident Responders

This paper identifies skill sets that contribute to effective InfoSec incident response. Even though many organizations have staff dedicated to InfoSec incident response teams, there is a lack of consensus as to the skill set each team member needs to effectively perform his/her job, and general and specialized skills that need to be represented in incident response teams (but usually not all held by each team member). Previous guidance was offered based on non-empirical methods. In this study, we used the Repertory Grid (RepGrid) method to elicit lists of incident response skills from industry experts. Skill archetypes were then identified by clustering incident responders who share similar characteristics. The findings extend the Theory of Resource Complements and provide managers with practical guidance regarding the skill sets most critical to the incident response role

The Building M6-794 Roofing Fatality Mishap Investigation Board (Board) was commissioned to gather information; analyze the facts; identify the proximate causes, root causes, and contributing factors relating to the mishap; and recommend appropriate actions to prevent a similar mishap from occurring in the future. During the investigation of this mishap, the Board also examined the fall protection policies of other NASA Centers and operating locations to gain an understanding of how those entities conduct fall protection, as well as the degree to which fall protection is standardized across the Agency
