iPS細胞はin vitroデングウイルス感染実験に用いられる樹状細胞の由来として有用である
The lack of an appropriate model has been a serious concern in dengue research pertinent to immune response and vaccine development. It remains a matter of impediment in dengue virus (DENV) studies when it comes to an in vitro model, which requires adequate quantity of dendritic cells (DC) with uniform characters. Other sources of DC, mostly monocyte derived DC (moDC), have been used despite their limitations such as quantity, proliferation, and donor dependent characters. Recent development of human iPS cells with consistent proliferation for long, stable, functional characteristics and desired HLA background has certainly offered added advantages. Therefore, we hypothesised that iPS derived cells would be a reliable alternative to the traditional DCs to be used with an in vitro DENV system. To develop a DENV infection and T cell activation model, we utilised iPS cells (HLA-A*24) as the source of DC. iPS-ML-DC was prepared and DENV infectivity was assessed apart from the major surface markers expression and cytokine production potential. Our iPS-ML-DC had major DC markers expression, DENV infection efficiency and cytokine production properties similar to that of moDC. Moreover, DENV infected iPS-ML-DC demonstrated the ability to activate HLA-matched T cell (but not mismatched) in vitro as evidenced by significantly higher proportion of IFN-γ+ CD69+ T cells compared to non-infected iPS-ML-DC. This affirmed the antigen-specific T cell activation by iPS-ML-DC as a function of antigen presenting cells. To conclude, maturation potential, DENV infection efficiency and T cell activation ability collectively suggest that iPS-ML-DC serves as an attractive option of DC for use in DENV studies in vitro.長崎大学学位論文 学位記番号:博(医歯薬)甲第1094号 学位授与年月日:平成30年9月5日Author: Dao Huy Manh, Shusaku Mizukami, Shyam Prakash Dumre, Muhareva Raekiansyah, Satoru Senju, Yasuharu Nishimura, Juntra Karbwang, Nguyen Tien Huy, Kouichi Morita, Kenji HirayamaCitation: Journal of General Virology, 99(9), pp.1239-1247; 2018Nagasaki University (長崎大学)課程博
Impact of Strategic Management Accounting on Operating Performance: Research in Public Universities of Vietnam
Purpose: The study aims to evaluate the impact of strategic management accounting (SMA) on the operating performance of Vietnamese public universities in terms of autonomy, student size, and number of years of establishment.
Theoretical framework: The paper is based on the theory of strategic management accounting, including the use of strategic management accounting as well as the characteristics of organizations in general and universities in particular.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Survey data were collected from 142 accountants of 102 public higher education institutions, cleaned data, and used regression analysis by SPSS 22 software.
Findings: The results showed that with 07 factors of SMA stands for Strategic Application (AD), Strategic Planning (LKH), Strategic Management Accounting (KT), Financial Measures (TC), Non-Financial Measures (PTC), Reporting strategy (BC), and Strategic Management Decision Making (RQD), there are only 3 factors that have an impact on the performance of quality universities (Application of Strategy, Quality Management Accounting Techniques, and Financial Measures). Considering the control variable, only the degree of autonomy, and the number of students have a positive effect on the impact of quality management accounting information and the performance of universities.
Research, practical & social implications: The results contribute to additional evidence for managers to pay more attention to quality management accounting information, thereby improving the universites' operational performance. In addition, this study complements the literature review documents related to the content of SMA and the impact of using SMA on the performance of universities.
Originality/Value: The study provided an extension on the impact of SMA on the performance of universities as well as the mediating role of the control variable on the relationship between SMA and performance. Research results provide useful references for research on related issues
Criteria of “persistent vomiting” in the WHO 2009 warning signs for dengue case classification
Introduction: Dengue is a viral disease that spreads rapidly in the tropic and subtropic regions of the world and causes 22,000 deaths annually. In 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a new classification of dengue infections, which divided them into three categories: dengue without warning sign (D), dengue with warning sign (DWS), and severe dengue (SD). However, researchers have been using different criteria to define persistent vomiting; therefore, we aimed to evaluate the ability of the number of vomiting times in early prediction of SD development among D/DWS patients. Method: A hospital-based cohort study was conducted in Ben Tre-south of Vietnam. We enrolled confirmed dengue patients with D and DWS at admission. The final classification was determined on the discharged day for every patient based on the classification of WHO 2009 without using vomiting symptom, using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve to evaluate the ability of the number of vomiting times in early prediction of SD development among D/DWS patients. Result: The prevalence of vomiting symptom was higher in SD group than D/DWS group (92 versus 46 %, p = 0.006), and the median of the number of vomiting times was higher in SD group than D/DWS group (2.5 versus 0, p = 0.001). To distinguish SD from D/DWS, the ROC curve of the number of vomiting episodes showed that the area under the curve was 0.77; with the cut point of two, the sensitivity and specificity were 92 and 52 %, respectively. Conclusion: The number of vomiting times could be a good clinical sign which can early predict SD from the group of D/DWS. We suggest the definition of persistent vomiting should be vomiting two times or more per day
Kinetics of neutralizing antibodies against Omicron variant in Vietnamese healthcare workers after primary immunization with ChAdOx1-S and booster immunization with BNT162b2
We studied the development and persistence of neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 ancestral strain, and Delta and Omicron (BA.1 and BA.2) variants in Vietnamese healthcare workers (HCWs) up to 15 weeks after booster vaccination. We included 47 HCWs, including group 1 (G1, N = 21) and group 2 (G2; N = 26) without and with breakthrough Delta variant infection before booster immunization, respectively). The study participants had completed primary immunization with ChAdOx1-S and booster vaccination with BNT162b2. Neutralizing antibodies were measured using a surrogate virus neutralization assay. Of the 21 study participants in G1, neutralizing antibodies against ancestral strain, Delta variant, BA.1, and BA.2 were (almost) abolished at month 8 after the second dose, but all had detectable neutralizing antibodies to the study viruses at week 2 post booster dose. Of the 26 study participants in G2, neutralizing antibody levels to BA.1 and BA.2 were significantly higher than those to the corresponding viruses measured at week 2 post breakthrough infection and before the booster dose. At week 15 post booster vaccination, neutralizing antibodies to BA.1 and BA.2 dropped significantly, with more profound changes observed in those without breakthrough Delta variant infection. Booster vaccination enhanced neutralizing activities against ancestral strain and Delta variant compared with those induced by primary vaccination. These responses were maintained at high levels for at least 15 weeks. Our findings emphasize the importance of the first booster dose in producing cross-neutralizing antibodies against Omicron variant. A second booster to maintain long-term vaccine effectiveness against the currently circulating variants merits further research
Spatiotemporal evolution of SARS-CoV-2 Alpha and Delta variants during large nationwide outbreak of COVID-19, Vietnam, 2021
We analyzed 1,303 SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome sequences from Vietnam, and found the Alpha and Delta variants were responsible for a large nationwide outbreak of COVID-19 in 2021. The Delta variant was confined to the AY.57 lineage and caused >1.7 million infections and >32,000 deaths. Viral transmission was strongly affected by nonpharmaceutical interventions
Knowledge, behaviour and attitudes towards Chagas disease among the Bolivian migrant population living in Japan: a cross-sectional study
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, behaviour and attitudes towards Chagas disease (CD) among Lat in American migrants in Japan and to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational activity (EA) in increasing knowledge of CD. DESIGN: A cross-sectional, mixed-methods study employing a preknowledge and postknowledge test and focus group discussion, conducted from March 2018 to June 2018. PARTICIPANTS: Seventy-two participants were included, all born in Bolivia and residents in four Japanese cities. Fifty-nine of them participated in the EA. INTERVENTIONS: The EA comprised showing three videos about CD and a group discussion covering different dimensions of CD and was evaluated with questionnaires to analyse the knowledge of the participants before and after. RESULTS: Seventy-two participants were enrolled, predominantly from highly endemic CD areas of Bolivia. Though most participants were familiar with vector-borne transmission, epidemiology and symptomatology of CD, the baseline knowledge of CD was low. Less than 10% of them had been tested prior for CD. The dominant factors associated with better knowledge were living in Japan for more than 10 years (OR=8.42, 95% CI 1.56 to 48.62) and previously testing for CD(OR=11.32; 95% CI 1.52 to 105.9). The EA significantly improved the CD knowledge of the participants (p value <0.0001; 95% CI 2.32 to 3.84). The participants associated the term \u27Chagas\u27 mostly with fear and concern. The level of stigmatisation was low, in contrast to the results of other studies. The barriers encountered in care-seeking behaviour were language, the migration process and difficulties to access the healthcare system. CONCLUSION: EA with an integrative approach is useful to increase the knowledge of CD within the Bolivian migrant population living in Japan. The activity brings the possibility to explore not only the level of knowledge but also to reveal experiences and to understand the needs of the people at risk. Considering them as actors towards healthcare solutions could lead to better outcomes for the success of future policies and interventions aimed to decrease the global burden
Systematic and zoogeographical characteristics of the oribatid mite fauna (Acari: Oribatida) of Vietnam
The article is a synthesis of the studies on oribatid mites carried out in Vietnam during the period of 1980-2013, and is based on the oribatid materials obtained throughout the country. The oribatid mite fauna (Acari: Oribatida) of Vietnam is diversified, and has high specialization. It is diverse by the number of superfamilies, families, genera and species recorded. However, the number of genera per family, as well as the number of species and subspecies per genus, is not high. 43.75% and 37.50% of the total 64 families and subfamilies consist of one and of 2-3 genera, respectively. The only one
family Oppiidae Grandjean, 1954 consists of 23 genera. The majority of the genera, 68.10% of the total, are represented by one species. The only two genera are represented by more than 10 species, namely Galumna Heyden, 1826 and Pergalumna Grandjean, 1936, with 13 and 11 species, respectively. The main zoogeographical characteristics of the oribatid mite fauna of Vietnam are the Oriental species, representing 60.30% of the total number. It also includes the elements of the Palaearctic – Oriental (12.2%), the Cosmopolitan (10.6%), the Afrotropical (Ethiopical) – Oriental (6.9%), the Australian – Oriental (5.0%), the Neotropical – Oriental (3.8%), the Nearctic – Oriental (0.9%), and the Pacific - Oriental (0.3%).Để đánh giá cấu trúc phân loại và đặc điểm địa động vật của khu hệ ve giáp Việt Nam (Acari: Oribatida), trên cơ sở mẫu vật nghiên cứu thu từ toàn lãnh thổ quốc gia, công trình đã tổng hợp và phân tích các kết quả nghiên cứu về ve giáp trong giai đoạn 1980-2013. Khu hệ động vật ve giáp Việt Nam có tính chuyên biệt cao, và rất đa dạng về số lượng họ, giống và loài xác định được. KT1 potato variety is resistant to viral diseases, heat tolerant, slightly infected with late blight and main pests (aphids, mites, thrips) with light level. It’s tubers are of oval shape, shallow nodes, yellow tuber shell and pulp, high dry matter content of 21 - 23%; starch content from 14 - 17%, sugar-reduced content < 0.22% suitable for fresh consumption and food processing
Association of self-reported allergic rhinitis with dengue severity: A case-control study
BackgroundThe severity of dengue infection has been reportedly associated with patients’ allergic reactions. To further elucidate the role of allergy in dengue severity, we conducted a matched case-control study to assess the association between allergic background and dengue shock syndrome.MethodsThis is a matched case-control study that was carried out in the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from January to December 2017. Dengue infection was determined by non-structure protein 1 (NS1) diagnostic quick test or anti-dengue antibodies (IgM). The total and dengue-specific IgE levels were measured using ELISA. Patients’ demographics, clinical, and allergic profiles were collected using a structured questionnaire.ResultsA total of 572 dengue patients with positive NS1 (92.7%) or IgM antibodies (7.3%) results were included in this study. Of these patients, 143 patients developed dengue shock syndrome (case group) while the other 429 patients did not (control group). None of the baseline characteristics including age, sex, or being overweight was significantly different between the two groups (p>0.05). In multivariable analysis, having a history of dengue infection (OR=3.35, 95% CI: 1.8–6.17, p<0.001) and allergic rhinitis (OR=1.95, 95% CI: 1.11–3.4, p = 0.019) were found to be associated with dengue shock syndrome. Higher levels of dengue-specific IgE were not associated with worse outcomes in patients with allergies (p = 0.204) or allergic rhinitis (p = 0.284).ConclusionDengue patients presenting with a history of a previous dengue infection or allergic rhinitis should be considered high-risk patients for the development of dengue shock syndrome
