Convexity of the effective action from functional flows

We show that convexity of the effective action follows from its functional flow equation. Our analysis is based on a new, spectral representation. The results are relevant for the study of physical instabilities. We also derive constraints for convexity-preserving regulators within general truncation schemes including proper-time flows, and bounds for infrared anomalous dimensions of propagators.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Uptalk in Spanish Dating Shows?

The use of uptalk or a question intonation at the end of a statement is a phenomenon that has been widely studied by linguists and gender scholars for English. However, little to no research has focused on studying this phenomenon in Spanish. By examining the discourse of the contestants of a well-known Spanish dating reality show, this study fills this gap in the research by demonstrating the existence of uptalk in Spanish. I also propose that the melodies that are associated with Spanish uptalk in the data are L* L-H% and L+H* HH%. Additionally, all of the participants that were analyzed used uptalk regardless of their gender. Nonetheless, females were the ones that use it more profusely. The use of uptalk in Spanish, like in English, served a number of discourse functions like holding the floor, showing camaraderie or softening a command. A new discourse function was also found in the data: females used uptalk for flirting during romantic interactions, a pattern that was not observed at all for men

Queer Movement and Community in Colombia: The Influence and Importance of Social Media as Used by Museo Q

Within the conservative sociohistorical context present in the Colombian society, a non-profit, voluntary, civil society museum initiative, under the name of Museo Q, makes use of digital platforms and media to give visibility to queer perspectives and people, and to argue for their wellbeing. This work is an exploration of the museum\u27s particular relationship with social media as a result of its Minor Architecture, the influence and importance of that relationship on queer activism and people in Colombia, and the use given by artists to the museum\u27s virtual spaces in order to discuss sensitive topics such as Religion. In addition to this, this work also explores the previously mentioned sociohistorical context surrounding the museum’s activistic efforts, its present recognitions, the current legislation concerning queer people in Colombia, and one of the ways in which we, as members of a reputable educational institution, can contribute to the work done by similar organizations

    Get PDF
Fossil fuels have been used for centuries as a main source of energy, despite the pollutants that fossil fuels generated in the environment. New alternatives, as biofuels, have arisen as alternatives to diminish the environmental impact, but there are some drawbacks that need to be tackled. To date, biofuels from microorganisms, as known as third-generation biofuels, have drawn attention to researchers owing to the capability to generate biofuels by modifying the genetic material of different microorganisms. Many microorganism consortia to produce biofuels have been studied, but cyanobacteria -a microalgae- have shown to be more sustainable to generate biofuels owing to their similarities to plant chloroplasts to perform photosynthesis. Indeed, cyanobacteria contain the MEP pathway that is a metabolic route to biosynthesise terpenoids. However, the most studied cyanobacterium strain has been Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. Synechocystis has been studied and engineered to produce terpenoids as squalene, bisabolene, and limonene. To date, bisabolene seems to be more suitable to replace some fossil fuels owing to their physical chemistry properties. However, few studies have been reported to produce bisabolene. This work has been developed to biosynthesise in in silico a construct of a biological device containing both biological elements and a plasmid vector. This biological device is capable of enhancing the yield of bisabolene inside of Synechocystis as a host organism.

    Get PDF

In this paper we present the results of an analysis of verbal processes and locution constructions in two corpora, one with papers from Anglophone journals, and one from Hispanophone ones. Our main interest was to build up a semantic-grammatical profile of how verbal and locution structures are constructed in the discipline of Discourse Analysis, and see if there were similarities and/or differences in the two corpora. The results showed that there are significant differences in terms of verbal process ratio, metaphoric locutions, most frequent verbal processes, and projection.
