Development of a Cyber Range with description language for network topology definition

    Get PDF
Cyber Ranges are an essential tool for cybersecurity trainings and experiments because they enable to setup virtual, isolated and reproducible environments that can be safely used to execute different types of tests and scenarios. The preparation of scenarios is the most time-consuming phase, which includes the configuration of the virtual machines and the definition of the network topology, so it is important for a Cyber Range to include tools that simplify this operation. This work focuses on how to implement and setup a Cyber Range that includes the necessary features and tools to simplify the setup phase, in particular for large topologies. The literature review provides an analysis of the selected open-source and research solutions currently available for Cyber Ranges and their configuration for use in different scenarios. This work presents the development of a Cyber Range based on the open-source framework OpenStack and the entire design process of a new Description Language, starting from the analysis of the requirements for the defined use-cases, defining and designing the required features, the implementation of all the required components, and the testing of the correctness and effectiveness of the whole system. A comparison of the implemented solution against the selected solutions in the literature study is provided, summarising the unique features offered by this approach. The validation of the Description Language implementation with the defined use cases demonstrated that it can reduce the complexity and length of the required template, which can help to make the setup of scenarios faster

Towards Enhancing EFL Academic Literacy : The Effect of Genre-Based Instruction on Summary-Response Writing

This study investigates the effect of genre-based instruction on the process of teaching summary-response writing to EFL university students at an advanced level of language proficiency. A quasi-experimental research design (one-group pre- and post-test) was followed and quantitative and qualitative methods to collect and analyse the data were employed. The participants were one instructor, two raters and an intact group of 46 EFL students attending the fourth year of five-year Teacher Training, Licentiate and Translation Studies Programmes in an Argentinian university. The subjects were administered a pre-test requesting them to write a summary-response before instruction. After a ten-week period of instruction following the genre-based approach, a post-test was administered. Two independent raters scored students’ summary-responses using an analytic scoring scale designed for this study. The quantitative data collected from the tests were analysed using two statistical tests, namely, Cohen’s Simple Unweighted Coefficient and Wilcoxon Rank Sums (matched pairs). Results indicated that the difference in means between pre- and post-test scores was statistically significant. The information gathered was triangulated with the analysis of summary-response writing strategies carried out by the researcher, the data provided by pre- and post-study questionnaires and self-assessment checklists administered to the students, and interviews held with the instructor. The results provided by these measures support the hypothesis that genre-based instruction is an effective pedagogical tool to teach summary-response writing to EFL university students at an advanced level of language proficiency

TEORIA DAS ORGANIZAÇÕES E OPERAÇÕES DE MANUTENÇÃO DA PAZ COMPLEXAS: NOTAS A PARTIR DA MINUSTAH

How far Organization Theory can shed light on complex peacekeeping operations, observing the explanatory power and differences among more hierarchically-based approaches and network theory? It also makes the case for further research on why and how local elites, experienced with foreign intervention, hijack international organizations to advance their own interests.

New technologies, innovation, and research and development of new products can help developing economies to transform models of production and raise productivity. Several countries in Asia have shown that investing in education, research. Technological adaptation and creation of new technology may foster economic development. In the case of the Brazilian aviculture, the interaction between various actors (private firms, federal government, provinces and municipalities, along with research centers), transformed an artisanal activity in one of the most dynamic sectors of agriculture. The combined action of these actors sharply increased production and consumption, and reduced prices. Moreover, Brazil became the largest exporter of aviculture goods to the international markets. This paper analyzes how this transformation happened looking at the development of the aviculture sector, using evolutionary and Schumpeterian theory. Particular emphasis will be given to the study of creation and adaptation of technology as a source of international competitiveness, which contributed to sustain a trajectory of exports and the subsequent process of internationalization of the Brazilian firms.dinnovation, technologies, research & development, productivity, industrial aviculture
