    Toxicity of G-P Compound Bioinsecticide to Aphids and Their Natural Enemies in Soybean Fields

    The results of both laboratory and field tests on the toxicity of GP compound bioinsecticide to aphids and their natural enemies in soybean fields were reported in this paper. In the laboratory tests, aphid mortalities of 77.3% to 80.5% were achieved 24 hours after the spraying of 1 to 400 diluted G-P bioinsecticide; and the mortalities reached 91.3% to 96.1% 48 hours after the spraying. The control effects of this bioinsecticide on aphids in field test were 91.0%, which was similar to the results of 1 to 1000 diluted of 40% omethoate.     Plant regeneration via somatic embryogenesis from root explants of Hevea brasiliensis

    A system for induction of callus and plant regeneration via somatic embryogenesis from root explants of Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg. clone Reyan 87-6-62 was evaluated. The influence of plant growth regulators (PGRs) including 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA) and kinetin (KT) on callus induction of root explants from in vitro plantlets were studied. The results showed that the highest induction frequency of embryogenic callus emerged on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1 mg/l KT, 0.2 mg/l 6-BA without 2,4-D. Mean of 4 somatic embryos per embryogenic callus were obtained and approximately 11.8% of them developed into plantlets. The regenerated plantlets were successfully  transplanted to sand bed. The plant regeneration system established in this study will facilitate mass propagation and may be applied to culture the roots of high-yielding rubber trees.Key words: Hevea brasiliensis Muell.     : Calcium is the largest mineral in the body and is necessary in most biological processes. The body\u27s calcium levels are influenced by a variety of renal disorders, one of which is chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease is a pathophysiological process with diverse etiology, resulting in a progressive decline in renal function, and generally end up with kidney failure (stage 5 / end stage). This study aims to describe the levels of calcium in patients with non dialysis stage 5 chronic kidney disease. The method used in this study was a descriptive study conducted from December 2015-January 2016 at two hospitals, Prof. Dr. R. D Kandou hospital and Advent Teling hospital in Manado. The samples were blood samples of all patients with non-dialysis CKD stage 5 in the period and criteria set determined by non-probability sampling types consecutive sampling. Examination serum calcium using O-Cresolphthalein Complexon method. The result obtained 22 (62.9%) were decreased calcium levels (hypocalcemia), 12 (34.3%) calcium levels nomal and 1 (2.9%) with increased levels of calcium (hypercalcemia). The results of this study concluded that most of the non-dyalisis stage 5 chronic kidney disease patients (62,9%) were decline in calcium levels

    Integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine for Menopausal syndrome: Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

    Background: To critically assess the evidence of integrated Chinese and western medicine for treating  Menopausal syndrome (MPS).Methods and Materials: A search across the Chinese Biomedical Medicine (CBM), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP database (VIP), Wangfang database (Wanfang), PubMed and the Cochrane Library databases was conducted (up to October 31st, 2013) in commonly used integrated Chinese and western medicine therapies for menopausal syndrome. A number of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of integrated Chinese and western medicine in patients with PPS were included. The quality of the included studies was evaluated and a meta-analysis was performed using the RevMan5.0 software.Results: Twelve RCTs with 1155 patients were evaluated in this review. The results of meta-analysis showed that the therapy of using integrated Chinese and western medicine was significantly superior to that of western medicine alone towards improving the efficacy, relieving the clinical symptoms and decreasing follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)levels (P<0.05), even though the effects of two treatments were the same in regulating the levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and estradiol (E2).Conclusion: Compared to a regular treatment with western medicine alone, the therapeutic approach that utilizes integration of Chinese with western medicine can effectively improve the clinical efficacy and serum hormone levels in patients with menopausal syndrome.     A Practical Quality Control Method for Saponins Without UV Absorption by UPLC-QDA

    Saponins are a class of important active ingredients. Analysis of saponin-containing herbal medicines is a major challenge for the quality control of medicinal herbs in companies. Taking the medicine Astragali radix (AR) as an example, it has been shown that the existing evaporative light scattering detection (ELSD) methods of astragaloside IV (AG IV) has the disadvantages of time-consuming sample preparation and low sensitivity. The universality of ELSD results in an inapplicable fingerprint with huge signals from primary compounds and smaller signals from saponins. The purpose of this study was to provide a practical and comprehensive method for the quality control of the astragalosides in AR. A simple sample preparation method with sonication extraction and ammonia hydrolyzation was established, which shortens the preparation time from around 2 days to less than 2 h. A UPLC-QDA method with the SIM mode was established for the quantification of AG IV in AR. Methanol extract was subjected to UPLC-QDA for fingerprinting analysis, and the common peaks were assigned simultaneously with the QDA. The results showed that with the newly established method, the preparation time for a set of samples was less than 90 min. The fingerprints can simultaneously detect both saponins and flavonoids in AR. This simple, rapid, and comprehensive UPLC-QDA method is suitable for quality assessment of RA and its products in companies, and also provides references for the quality control of other saponin ingredients without UV absorption

    WeaverBird: Empowering Financial Decision-Making with Large Language Model, Knowledge Base, and Search Engine

    We present WeaverBird, an intelligent dialogue system designed specifically for the finance domain. Our system harnesses a large language model of GPT architecture that has been tuned using extensive corpora of finance-related text. As a result, our system possesses the capability to understand complex financial queries, such as "How should I manage my investments during inflation?", and provide informed responses. Furthermore, our system incorporates a local knowledge base and a search engine to retrieve relevant information. The final responses are conditioned on the search results and include proper citations to the sources, thus enjoying an enhanced credibility. Through a range of finance-related questions, we have demonstrated the superior performance of our system compared to other models.     Expression of SET Protein in the Ovaries of Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

    Background. We previously found that expression of SET gene was up-regulated in polycystic ovaries by using microarray. It suggested that SET may be an attractive candidate regulator involved in the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In this study, expression and cellular localization of SET protein were investigated in human polycystic and normal ovaries. Method. Ovarian tissues, six normal ovaries and six polycystic ovaries, were collected during transsexual operation and surgical treatment with the signed consent form. The cellular localization of SET protein was observed by immunohistochemistry. The expression levels of SET protein were analyzed by Western Blot. Result. SET protein was expressed predominantly in the theca cells and oocytes of human ovarian follicles in both PCOS ovarian tissues and normal ovarian tissues. The level of SET protein expression in polycystic ovaries was triple higher than that in normal ovaries (P<0.05). Conclusion. SET was overexpressed in polycystic ovaries more than that in normal ovaries. Combined with its localization in theca cells, SET may participate in regulating ovarian androgen biosynthesis and the pathophysiology of hyperandrogenism in PCOS

    Naringenin Produces Neuroprotection Against LPS-Induced Dopamine Neurotoxicity via the Inhibition of Microglial NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation

    Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most prevalent central nervous system (CNS) degenerative disease and characterized by slow and progressive loss of dopamine (DA) neurons in the midbrain substantia nigra. Microglia-mediated neuroinflammation has been considered as the major central event in the process of DA neuronal loss. Thus, inhibition of neuroinflammation could possess a more viable strategy for PD treatment. Naringenin (NAR), a natural flavanoid contained in citrus fruit and grapefruits, possesses amounts of pharmacological activities. Recent studies indicated that NAR produced neuroprotection against several neurological disorders. However, the mechanisms underlying NAR-generated neuroprotection are not fully illuminated.Methods: In the present study, rat nigral stereotaxic injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced DA neuronal loss was performed to investigate NAR-mediated neuroprotection. In addition, BV-2 and MN9D cell lines were applied to explore the underlying mechanisms.Results: NAR protected DA neurons against LPS-induced neurotoxicity. Also, NAR suppressed microglial nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome signaling activation and the subsequent pro-inflammatory factors release. In addition, NAR-mediated DA neuroprotection was dependent on the inhibition of microglial NLRP3 inflammasome activation, as evidenced by the observations that NAR-reduced pro-inflammatory factors production and further NAR-exerted DA neuroprotection against LPS-induced neuronal damage was not discerned after microglial NLRP3 siRNA treatment.Conclusions: This study demonstrated that NAR targeted microglial NLRP3 inflammasome to protect DA neurons against LPS-induced neurotoxicity. These findings suggest NAR might hold a promising therapeutic potential for PD
