The perception of the poverty causes has been very important in the broader study of this
social phenomenon, given the direct implications in social interaction with the poor and,
indirectly, in the legitimacy of measures of social support and combat against poverty. This
study considers three types of poverty attributions: individualistic, structuralistic, and
fatalistic. Data were collected by Eurobarometer in 2007, in all 27 EU member states and
Croatia, as a candidate country. Given the importance of culture in attitudes shaping,
multilevel latent class models were estimated, allowing the simultaneous study of two levels
of analysis: the individuals‟ level, where it is possible to define the profile within each
country regarding their perceptions of poverty, and the country level where it is possible to
identify the similarities and differences between European countries, in this field. The model
structure has six segments of countries and seven segments of individuals. Despite the
generalization of the social explanations of poverty, that are the most quoted causes by
individuals, there are also groups that emphasize more individualistic explanations, blaming
the poor for their condition. The variable that seems to have more impact on the distinction
between groups of individuals is their socio-economic condition: individuals with more
economic problems attributed more social causes to poverty than those in a better economic
and social situation. At the country level, the most developed segment believes in the
individualistic and fatalistic causes of poverty and the less developed explains poverty based
on the injustices of society. There are groups of countries that demonstrate diversity in how
they think about poverty
CHARACTERISATION AND TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF PORTUGUESE WINE FARMS
This study aims to characterise the evolution of vineyard production, to measure the levels of technical efficiency, and to relate these with farmers and farms attributes. The sample used is composed of a panel of vineyard farms, for the period 2000-2005, belonging to Portuguese Alentejo region. The methodology used to estimate technical efficiency, was the stochastic production frontier. The results showed that there are room to improve the levels of technical efficiency in input use and that efficiency is variant with time. It was observed that technical efficiency increases with economic size and net farm income, as well as with family entrepreneurship.efficiency, parametric, vineyard, Crop Production/Industries, Farm Management,
The primary objective of this working project is to define an indexing policy for a school library. This is the process of representing the contents of the documents, previously registered in the library management system, led by humans, with the aim of further dissemination of the information available, contributing to the access point by helping the user of the library in question. The main users of the school library (pupils in the daytime) is somewhat little specialized, and it is therefore essential to develop mechanisms to facilitate their access to the information they want. It is totally relevant to define a consistent indexing policy to optimize the library management system at which will be indexed the documents, regardless of the medium in which they are presented. Although this is an expensive and exhaustive process, it is essential to an effective retrieval of information. For this custom be performed and appropriated to the public that the library serves it is necessary to fix the instruments used and a normalization of the practices carried out. For these reasons, the redaction of an indexing policy is essential to regulate this process, contributing thus, for its proper implementation. This is not the sacralisation of a practice, but the normalization and over time to their redeployment to new realities
Doomscrolling is a behaviour consisting of seeking information about negative
events (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine) on social media. Currently, the
literature on this behaviour is scarce and there are no studies on the Portuguese population.
Thus, this study aimed to describe doomscrolling in a sample of Portuguese adults, as well
as to adapt the Doomscrolling Scale - Short Version to Portuguese. A total of 316
participants, whose ages ranged between 18 and 71 years, participated in this study. This
was a quantitative, cross-sectional, and non-experimental study. The results indicated that
doomscrolling was more frequent in relation to the war in Ukraine compared to the
COVID-19 pandemic. It was found that doomscrolling is not related to age, use of
different social networks, and well-being. Most correlations between doomscrolling and
perceptions about the present time were not statistically significant. It was also found that
doomscrolling is negatively related to education, only in the context of the COVID-19
pandemic. On the other hand, doomscrolling was found to be positively related to stress
overload and somatization. With regard to coping strategies, doomscrolling was found to
be positively related to self-blaming, only in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and
to behavioural desinvestment, in both contexts. Finally, good levels of reliability and
validity were found for the Portuguese version of the Doomscrolling Scale - Short Version.
In conclusion, this study contributed to increasing the knowledge about doomscrolling and
its harmful impact on mental and physical health, given that the literature on this topic is
rather scarce, which will allow for improving the intervention in this area. In addition, this
study included the Portuguese validation of a useful scale for assessing doomscrolling,
which may be used in future research

1978) was an autodidact Portuguese
artist, that began his artistic work through
drawing and painting but developed
his originality through metal foil
sculpture. His work reveals a connection
and interest to Ribatejo region and the
tauromachic livelihood. The sculptures
reveal an eximious three-dimensional
work throughout a vigorous anatomical
and movement component. His work has
been poorly studied and released due to
different historical circumstances. This
article gives a global window of the work
so far produced by the Project Delfim
Maya within three fields: the research
for conservation and restoration of paper
objects, the disclosure mechanisms, and the
educational level. This Project was born
by the hand of Maria José Maya, and her
wish to preserve her grandfather’s collection
to future generations, a singular one within

CHARACTERIZATION AND TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF PORTUGUESE WINE FARMS

In early childhood education, socio-emotional learning is not always considered with appropriate planning nor based on scientific evidence. Aiming to analyze impact of an Emotional Regulation (ER) Intervention in school achievement and social skills (SS), fifty-five children from public schools were evaluated by Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices (CPM), School Achievement Test (TDE) and Social Skills Rating System (SSRS-BR). After nine 50-minute meetings addressing ER strategies, evaluation of SS by the teacher indicated improvement in all aspects of SS in Intervention Group (IG) and worsening of the self-control in Comparison Group (CG). Self-evaluation of SS showed that IG overcame the initial difference in assertiveness and problem avoidance. Results suggest that ER programs can bring benefits to the development of SS.Aprendizagem socioemocional nem sempre é contemplada, com devido planejamento e embasamento científico, na educação infantil.
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the socioeconomic background and its relationship with spatial distribution of mortality due to violence. METHODS: Ecological study conducted to explore the space distribution of mortality due to violence in the city of Vitória, Southeastern Brazil, between 2000 and 2003, based on population and socioeconomic information. Mortality data were correlated with information on victim's place of residence, type of violence, gender, and skin color. Data were analyzed using space average, odds ratio, and cluster analysis. RESULTS: There were reported 828 deaths due to violence during the study period, accounting for 17% of all deaths in the city. Of these, 72% were homicides, 21.8% traffic accidents, and 6% suicides. Violence victims were mostly young black males, living in poorer areas of the city. In contrast, as for suicide and traffic accidents, the victims were older white females living in the wealthiest area of the city. CONCLUSIONS: The study showed that violence is a phenomenon occurring in all socioeconomic levels but black people at the lowest level are more likely to die from homicides while white well-off people are more likely to die from suicide and traffic accidents.OBJETIVO: Analizar el contexto socioeconómico y su relación con la incidencia espacial de la mortalidad debido a la violencia.
