    Idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is characterized by paroxysms of severe facial pain but without the major sensory loss that commonly accompanies neuropathic pain. Since neurovascular compression of the trigeminal nerve root entry zone does not fully explain the pathogenesis of TN, we determined whether there were brain gray matter abnormalities in a cohort of idiopathic TN patients. We used structural MRI to test the hypothesis that TN is associated with altered gray matter (GM) in brain areas involved in the sensory and affective aspects of pain, pain modulation, and motor function.     A novel semiconductor-rubber-semiconductor (P3HT-PMA-P3HT) triblock copolymer has been designed and prepared according to the principle of thermoplastic elastomers. It behaves as a thermoplastic elastomer with a Young's modulus (E) of 6 MPa for an elongation at break of 140% and exhibits good electrical properties with a carrier mobility of 9 x 10(-4) cm(2) V-1 s(-1).     Acarbose,which is clinically widely used to treat Type 2 Diabetes,is thought to act at the small intestine by competitively inhibiting enzymes that delay the release of glucose from complex carbohydrates, thereby specifically reducing post prandial glucose excursion. The major side-effect of treatment with acarbose, flatulence, occurs when undigested carbohydrates are fermented by colonic bacteria, resulting in considerable amount of hydrogen. We propose that enteric benefits of acarbose is partly attributable to be their ability to neutralise oxidative stress via increased production of H2 in the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, symptoms of ulcerative colitis in human beings can be ameliorated by acarbose

    Towards the glueball spectrum from unquenched lattice QCD

    We use a variational technique to study heavy glueballs on gauge configurations generated with 2+1 flavours of ASQTAD improved staggered fermions. The variational technique includes glueball scattering states. The measurements were made using 2150 configurations at 0.092 fm with a pion mass of 360 MeV. We report masses for 10 glueball states.     Changes in ambient air pollutants in New York State from 2005 to 2019: Effects of policy implementations and economic and technological changes

    Over the past 20 years, a number of regulatory efforts have been applied to improve air quality in the United States and specifically in New York State. These measures generally focused on mobile emissions through emissions controls and improved fuel quality, and controls on electricity generation to reduce emissions from older, uncontrolled electricity generation units (EGUs). In addition, economic drivers such as the major recession in 2007–2009 and the change in the relative costs of natural gas and coal also drove changes in the mixture of EGU technologies. To assess the effects of these changes and to define the baseline for future changes as the economy further decarbonizes through renewable electricity generation and electric vehicles, the concentrations of all pollutants measured at all regulatory monitoring sites in New York State were assessed for their trends. Trends were examined using seasonal-trend decomposition with local regression smoothing (STL), Mann-Kendall trend analysis with the Theil-Sen nonparametric slope estimation, and piecewise regression analysis to identify breakpoints in the slopes of the time series data. The concentrations of primary gaseous pollutants, CO, NO2, and SO2 have decreased substantially in step with the declining emissions. PM2.5 has substantially declined largely due to the reductions in particulate sulfate. However, in recent years, the rate of decline has diminished due to relatively constant or increasing particulate nitrate and secondary organic aerosol. O3 has also generally increased at the urban sites likely as a result of reduced NOx emissions, while it declined or remained constant at the rural sites. Thus, the promulgated regulations assisted by the economic drivers have improved air quality, but additional actions will be needed to further reduce urban O3 and PM2.5

    Expression of Multiple Artificial MicroRNAs from a Chicken miRNA126-Based Lentiviral Vector

    Background: The use of RNAi in both basic and translational research often requires expression of multiple siRNAs from the same vector. Methods/Principal Findings: We have developed a novel chicken miR126-based artificial miRNA expression system that can express one, two or three miRNAs from a single cassette in a lentiviral vector. We show that each of the miRNAs expressed from the same lentiviral vector is capable of potent inhibition of reporter gene expression in transient transfection and stable integration assays in chicken fibroblast DF-1 cells. Transduction of Vero cells with lentivirus expressing two or three different anti-influenza miRNAs leads to inhibition of influenza virus production. In addition, the chicken miR126-based expression system effectively inhibits reporter gene expression in human, monkey, dog and mouse cells. These results demonstrate that the flanking regions of a single primary miRNA can support processing of three different stem-loops in a single vector.     Wetlands for wastewater treatment and subsequent recycling of treated effluent : a review

    Due to water scarcity challenges around the world, it is essential to think about non-conventional water resources to address the increased demand in clean freshwater. Environmental and public health problems may result from insufficient provision of sanitation and wastewater disposal facilities. Because of this, wastewater treatment and recycling methods will be vital to provide sufficient freshwater in the coming decades, since water resources are limited and more than 70% of water are consumed for irrigation purposes. Therefore, the application of treated wastewater for agricultural irrigation has much potential, especially when incorporating the reuse of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorous, which are essential for plant production. Among the current treatment technologies applied in urban wastewater reuse for irrigation, wetlands were concluded to be the one of the most suitable ones in terms of pollutant removal and have advantages due to both low maintenance costs and required energy. Wetland behavior and efficiency concerning wastewater treatment is mainly linked to macrophyte composition, substrate, hydrology, surface loading rate, influent feeding mode, microorganism availability, and temperature. Constructed wetlands are very effective in removing organics and suspended solids, whereas the removal of nitrogen is relatively low, but could be improved by using a combination of various types of constructed wetlands meeting the irrigation reuse standards. The removal of phosphorus is usually low, unless special media with high sorption capacity are used. Pathogen removal from wetland effluent to meet irrigation reuse standards is a challenge unless supplementary lagoons or hybrid wetland systems are used

    The Role of miR-30d-5p in Neutrophil-Derived Exosomes in Promoting Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

The exosomes were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA). We mimicked SLE using MRL/lpr mice and treated the mice with exosomes and miR-30d-5p inhibitors. The RNA level of miR-30d-5p in serum of mice was analyzed by qPCR. The images of spleen were captured to evaluate splenomegaly. The serum levels of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs), total IgG, total IgM, and anti-dsDNA IgG were measured by ELISA. The kidney injury was analyzed by albumin level, haematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, active index, and chronic index. The T cell differentiation and B cell activation were detected by flow cytometry. For T follicular helper (TfH) cell analysis, cells were stained with anti-CXCR5 and anti-PD-1 antibodies. Levels of inflammatory cytokines in serum were measured by ELISA.Results: The exosomes from SLE patients showed significant higher level of miR-30d-5p. Treatment with neutrophil-exosomes enhanced the degree of splenomegaly in MRL/lpr mice and production of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs), total IgG, total IgM, and anti-dsDNA IgG, which was repressed by miR-30d-5p inhibitor. Compared with MRL/lpr mice, mice treated with neutrophil-derive exosomes exhibited a notable increase of proteinuria and infiltration of lymphocytes in kidney, whereas inhibition of miR-30d-5p reduced this elevation. Exosome treatment elevated the number of IL17+ Th17 cells, CXCR5+PD-1+ TfH cells, reduced the portion of Foxp3+ Treg cells, and elevated B cells, and inhibition of miR-30d-5p reversed these effects.Conclusion: The neutrophils from SLE exhibited higher level of miR-30d-5p, and inhibition of miR-30d-5p could suppress the T cell and B cell activation, reduce inflammatory cytokine and antibodies production, and alleviate the lupus nephritis during SLE.Keywords: systemic lupus erythematosus, neutrophil, exosomes, miR-30d-5p, T cell, B cel
