Divergent strategy for the synthesis of α-aryl-substituted fosmidomycin analogues

Fosmidomycin is the first representative of a new class of antimalarial drugs acting through inhibition of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate ( DOXP) reductoisomerase (DXR), an essential enzyme in the non-mevalonate pathway for the synthesis of isoprenoids. This work describes a divergent strategy for the synthesis of a series of alpha-aryl-substituted fosmidomycin analogues, featuring a palladium-catalyzed Stille coupling as the key step. An alpha-(4-cyanophenyl)fosmidomycin analogue emerged as the most potent analogue in the present series. Its antimalarial activity clearly surpasses that of the reference compound fosmidomycin

A TEORIA DAS RELAÇÕES SOCIAIS DE SEXO:: um quadro de análise sobre a dominação masculina

Este artigo expõe o sistema conceitual elaborado na França, em torno do conceito de relação social de sexo. Mostra as ligações teóricas entre, de um lado, as modalidades de ação ou as atividades dessa relação social, isto é, a divisão sexual do trabalho, a divisão sexual do poder e a produção de categorias de pensamento sexuadas e, de outro lado, as propriedades formais das relações sociais de sexo: seu caráter transversal, sua dinâmica, seu caráter antagônico. Essas propriedades são ilustradas por meio dos resultados de pesquisas de campo efetuadas pela autora na área da família, do trabalho doméstico e da armada ou, ainda, a propósito da sexuação da memória. Igualmente, o artigo explicita a preferência da autora pelo conceito de relação social de sexo, relativamente ao conceito de relação social de gênero

A PATERNIDADE NA FRANÇA:: entre igualização dos direitos parentais e lutas ligadas à s relações sociais de sexo

Na França, a evolução recente do Direito de Família e a redefinição dos direitos dos pais e das mães se desenvolveram em um contexto ideológico em que a noção de “novos pais” teve um papel importante, como em outras sociedades européias. O estudo das práticas masculinas na vida doméstica e da efetiva responsabilidade por filhas e filhos mostra, entretanto, um descompasso entre a idéia de que os pais teriam mudado e a realidade da divisão sexual do trabalho na família. Defendendo os direitos dos pais, em nome da “co-parentalidade”, alguns homens, organizados em grupos de defesa dos pais divorciados, reivindicam direitos equivalentes entre pais e mães, invocando o “interesse da criança”. O caráter reversível e intermitente do engajamento dos homens-pais na parentalidade e a prioridade que eles conferem à carreira profissional nos levam a interrogar o que está realmente em jogo em seus combates. &nbsp

Ultrastructural Aspects of Unilateral Interspecific Incompatibility between Lycopersicum Peruvianum and L. Esculentum

SUMMARYObservations have been made, at the electron microscope, of the pollen tubes present in the styles of Lycopersicum esculentum and L. peruvianum after reciprocal crosses between the two species.The unilateral incompatibility barrier which isolates the two species when L. peruvianum is used as pistillate parent was then compared to the processes of pollen tube rejection which have been recently analysed (J. Cell Sci., 1972) after self-pollination in this self-incompatible species. Such a comparison, which was also carried out by means of fluorescence techniques, has permitted to find out that for both types of incompatibility the rejection process was characterised by a progressive disappearance of the callose-rich inner wall of the pollen tube and by an accumulation of bi-partite particles in the tube cytoplasm.In the case of unilateral incompatibility, however, the tube outer wall is gradually disaggregated while the callosic inner wall remains quite thick at the tube apex, becoming thinner and fin..

Synthesis and biological evaluation of cyclopropyl analogues of fosmidomycin as potent Plasmodium falciparum growth inhibitors

A series of fosmidomycin analogues featuring restricted conformational mobility has been synthesized and evaluated as inhibitors of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate (DOXP) reductoisomerase and as growth inhibitors of P. falciparum. The enantiomerically pure trans-cyclopropyl N-acetyl analogue 3b showed comparable inhibitory activity as fosmidomycin toward E. coli DOXP reductoisomerase and proved equally active when tested in vitro for P. falciparum growth inhibition. Conversely, the alpha-phenyl cis-cyclopropyl analogue 4 showed virtually no inhibition of the enzyme
