Developments in ambient noise analysis for the characterization of dynamic response of slopes to seismic shaking

In the last few decades, we have witnessed a growing awareness of the role of site dynamic response to seismic shaking in slope failures during earthquakes. Considering the time and costs involved in acquiring accelerometer data on landslide prone slopes, the analysis of ambient noise offers a profitable investigative alternative. Standard procedures of ambient noise analysis, according to the technique known as HVNR or Nakamura’s method, were originally devised to interpret data under simple site conditions similar to 1D layering (flat horizontal layering infinitely extended). In such cases, conditions of site amplification, characterized by a strong impedance contrast between a soft surface layer and a stiff bedrock, result in a single pronounced isotropic maximum of spectral ratios between horizontal and vertical component of ambient noise. However, previous studies have shown that the dynamic response of slopes affected by landslides is rather complex, being characterized by multiple resonance peaks with directional variability, thus, the use of standard techniques can encounter difficulties in providing reliable information. A new approach of data analysis has recently been proposed to exploit the potential of information content of Rayleigh waves present in ambient noise, with regard to the identification of frequency and orientation of directional resonance. By exploiting ground motion ellipticity this approach can also provide information on vertical distribution of S-wave velocity, which controls site amplification factors. The method, based on the identification of Rayleigh wave packets from instantaneous polarization properties of ambient noise, was first tested using synthetic signals in order to optimize the data processing system. Then the improved processing scheme is adopted to re-process and re-interpret the ambient noise data acquired on landslide prone slopes around Caramanico Terme (central Italy), at sites monitored also with accelerometer stations. The comparison of ambient noise analysis results with the outcomes of accelerometer monitoring reveals potential and limits of the new method for the investigations on slope dynamic response

On Richard's Trace: The Theater Imagination of Evil Between Theater of Blood and Theater of Sickness. In 1977 Carmelo Bene met the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze whom tells his idea about Richard III mise-en-scène, that is to equip the actor of huge prosthesis to his arms that would show all the body degeneration and would make him, at spectator’s eye, the incarnation of a meaningless evil. After all the whole theatre from last century, starting from its foundation, has been crossed by Antonin Artaud’s visionary charge and his theatre of cruelty, where theatre becomes a space of pestilence and incarnation of evil. This work wants to investigate some figures of last fifteen years theatre, around whom it has been built a consciousness connected to evil, and to show its layering of figures that go from a social fear to the staging of sickness and death, passing through pain and foolishness of evil

Archeologie della presenza: Digital liveness, vanisch liveness e la mediatizzazione della presenza

This paper intends to show how the question of liveness and with it the question of presence can be positioned rather than the last century. Through a mediarcheological look, the work intends to show how liveness is, at least since the end of the 19th century, the child of continuous negotiations between space, media and the human body. This negotiation is clearly more profound and complex today because it is the result of forms of profound mediatisation of the world and the performative parts. For this reason, the contribution finally intends to reason around the concept of vanish liveness, that is, those forms of digital liveness, produced by platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Clubhouse, in which the live event is not archived and is usable, just like the “live” event, only by those who share a time.

In search of the seismogenic fault of the March 23rd 2018 earthquake (Mw 3.7) near Brindisi (Puglia, Southern Italy)

T The portion of the southern Adriatic Sea, adjacent to the Murge area (Apulian Foreland, Southern Italy), is considered mainly aseismic. The recent March 23rd 2018 earthquake (Mw 3.7), occurred near Brindisi (Puglia Region), giving us occasion to reconsider data coming from different sources (instrumentally-recorded, historically-documented and palaeoseismologically-interpreted earthquakes), that suggest some moderate seismic shocks in this portion of the Adriatic Sea. The present study, based on the re-interpretation of public domain seismic profiles and exploration well logs available in the ViDEPI Project, has been focused on the recognition of faults with Quaternary activity in the epicentral area. A S-dipping fault, with a main dip-slip component of movement, is suggested to be the seismogenic source. Its geometry is consistent with the fault plane solution and the depth of the hypocenter calculated by the INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia).  </div

Tra serve and volley: l’immaginario eroico di Stefan Edberg

This work intends to investigate the figure of Stefan Edberg from two perspectives: on the one hand the icon of Edberg within the sporting imagery in relation with the hero mythology, and on the other, starting from the particular development of the Serve and volley, as it can make us understand tennis in a mediological key. This analysis must therefore take into account the technical-tactical characteristics of Edberg's game and the relationships that the Swedish tennis player has had with the media who have built the character (Marchesini 2016). The purpose of the article is to trace the particular heroic substance of Edberg suspended between the shine of the classical hero and the duplicity of the modern hero. This heroic substance is investigated also starting from the figure that the media have built of the Swedish tennis player
