Competition from emerging countries, international relocation and their impacts on employment

    Get PDF
International relocation has become a topical issue in recent months, in France as elsewhere in Europe. This working paper is a set of four articles. Guillaume Daudin and Sandrine Levasseur provide an assessment of the impact of international relocation on French employment. Georges Pujals deals with offshore outsourcing in the financial sector from a European perspective. Catherine Mathieu and Henri Sterdyniak focus on policy measures taken or to be taken in face of job losses in the French economy. Jean-Luc Gaffard and Michel Quéré show that free competition alone is not optimal for European economies and that a combination of structural and growth oriented macroeconomic policies is needed

Influence of Stacking Sequences and Lattice Parameter Differences on the Microstructure of Nonpolar AlN Films Grown on (11(2)over-bar0) 6H-SiC by Plasma-Assisted Molecular Beam Epitaxy

International audienceThanks to close crystalline structures and low lattice mismatches, nonpolar (11 (2) over bar0) 6H-SiC is expected to be a well- adapted substrate for the growth of nonpolar (11 (2) over bar0) III-nitride films. We demonstrate that the local reproduction of the basal planes stacking induces the presence of numerous planar defects (1.3 x 10(6) cm(-1)) in AlN films deposited on (11 (2) over bar0) 6H-SiC. Moreover, the tensile strain of AlN along the [0001] direction results in the cracking of the film for a thickness as low as 100 nm. This fragile plastic relaxation is favored because the only slip systems available for ductile plastic relaxation are pyramidal systems involving a + c dislocations which have a high activation energy

On the diversity of accommodation mechanisms in the tribology of Bulk Metallic Glasses

International audienceBulk Metallic Glasses (BMG) have exceptional mechanical properties compared to their traditional crystalline counterparts. However, BMGs often exhibit scattered tribological behaviours. To better understand the underlying mechanisms governing the behaviour of BMGs, four different alloys (Zr52.5Ti5Cu17.9Ni14.6Al10, Cu47Zr46Al7, Cu60Zr33Ti7, and Ni62Nb33Zr5) were studied in pure sliding, reciprocating conditions. The study shows that the residual elements coming either from the counterpart or the surrounding environment plays a major role in theirtribological behaviour. The composition of the BMG have a lower impact in the process. Eventually, the study concludes that optimization of the tribological behaviour of the BMGs might not necessarily rely on optimizing BMG composition but might rather rely on optimizing the choice of counterparts as a function of contact conditions
