In the past ten years the Mentoring has proved itself as a wide-applied method of support in the career of people with disabilities. A good example of successfully held Mentoring programme in Europe is the “Equal Employment Opportunities: Mentoring and Training for Disabled People and Employers” Project. It is a transnational initiative supported by the “Leonardo da Vinci” Programme of the European Commission. The project includes 3 European countries: Bulgaria, Greece and the UK. Their positive contribution is all the more evident in the context of massive lay-offs from large firms and especially appreciated in epochs of long term, structural unemployment. SMEs play an even more pronounced role in the case of very small islands, since the typical average enterprise size is even smaller than elsewhere. Manufacturing is also seen as an important contributor to economic growth and development. The factory has been a symbol of industrial progress for the last 200 years. Manufacturing creates many jobs, usually in large firms, develops technical skills, adds higher value to products and creates many supportive service industries. However, many handicaps can affect the set-up and operation of SMEs which are based in small island territories And are involved in manufacturing. How challenging are these handicaps? Can they be overcome? How? Can some small firms from small islands serve as models of successful export-oriented development? And if so, which? What would be their characteristics?peer-reviewe

    El plano Inclinado es una máquina simple que posee una superficie plana formando con la horizontal un ángulo menor de 90° y sostenida convenientemente para que puedan subir o bajar por ella objetos de diferente peso. Consta de una mesa, cuya horizontalidad se asegura mediante una plomada y unos tornillos de nivel, y de un cuadrante a lo largo del cual puede moverse un plano cuya inclinación se mide por las divisiones de aquel. Este modelo, realizado con fines didácticos, está destinado a estudiar las condiciones de equilibrio en el plano teniendo como variables la inclinación del plano, el peso que situamos en el carrito, y el peso que pende del extremo de la polea. Materiales: madera, metal. Tamaño: 40x70.5x14.5 cm (altoxlargoxancho).Los primeros estudios teóricos relacionados con el plano inclinado pueden remontarse a los trabajos, por ejemplo, de Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), Stevin y Galileo. Se utiliza mucho para medir el coeficiente de rozamiento pero el que aquí vemos está diseñado para el estudio de fuerzas y movimiento. Consiste en un plano que se puede inclinar a voluntad. Cuanto más agudo es éste ángulo, tanto más pequeña es la velocidad del cuerpo que desciende a lo largo del plano inclinado. El carrito y sujeto por un cordón que pasa por la polea, puede ser arrastrado a lo largo del plano por la componente tangencial del peso. Se demuestra que la fuerza que equilibra el carrito depende de la inclinación de éste. En los libros de finales del XIX figura la ley del plano inclinado: Fuerza aplicada x Longitud del plano = Peso x Altura del plano

    Colorectal Cancer Stage at Diagnosis Before vs During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Italy

    IMPORTANCE Delays in screening programs and the reluctance of patients to seek medical attention because of the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 could be associated with the risk of more advanced colorectal cancers at diagnosis. OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic was associated with more advanced oncologic stage and change in clinical presentation for patients with colorectal cancer. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This retrospective, multicenter cohort study included all 17 938 adult patients who underwent surgery for colorectal cancer from March 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021 (pandemic period), and from January 1, 2018, to February 29, 2020 (prepandemic period), in 81 participating centers in Italy, including tertiary centers and community hospitals. Follow-up was 30 days from surgery. EXPOSURES Any type of surgical procedure for colorectal cancer, including explorative surgery, palliative procedures, and atypical or segmental resections. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The primary outcome was advanced stage of colorectal cancer at diagnosis. Secondary outcomes were distant metastasis, T4 stage, aggressive biology (defined as cancer with at least 1 of the following characteristics: signet ring cells, mucinous tumor, budding, lymphovascular invasion, perineural invasion, and lymphangitis), stenotic lesion, emergency surgery, and palliative surgery. The independent association between the pandemic period and the outcomes was assessed using multivariate random-effects logistic regression, with hospital as the cluster variable. RESULTS A total of 17 938 patients (10 007 men [55.8%]; mean [SD] age, 70.6 [12.2] years) underwent surgery for colorectal cancer: 7796 (43.5%) during the pandemic period and 10 142 (56.5%) during the prepandemic period. Logistic regression indicated that the pandemic period was significantly associated with an increased rate of advanced-stage colorectal cancer (odds ratio [OR], 1.07; 95%CI, 1.01-1.13; P = .03), aggressive biology (OR, 1.32; 95%CI, 1.15-1.53; P < .001), and stenotic lesions (OR, 1.15; 95%CI, 1.01-1.31; P = .03). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE This cohort study suggests a significant association between the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the risk of a more advanced oncologic stage at diagnosis among patients undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer and might indicate a potential reduction of survival for these patients

Conventionally identified as number 2037 (former Codex B) and number 2038 (former Codex A). These collections mainly contain pictorial studies (Ash. 2038) and assorted drawings (Ash. 2037), which Leonardo in all likelihood drew between 1489 and 1492.
