Designing digital workplaces for employee engagement: Practical guidelines from a systematic literature review

    Get PDF
Technological advancements have enabled a new perspective on the future of work, by bringing about job creation, job destruction, and different ways of work. In the meantime, new generations are becoming the majority of the global workforce. In this context, we performed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to understand how employees experience the digital workplace. We focused on generations Y (Millennials) and Z. We identified the need for the companies to consider process, people, and technology to provide a workplace where employees can perform their jobs seamlessly wherever they are. The SLR also provided the necessary input to propose a systematization of a set of guidelines across four phases to support organizations in the implementation of an engaging digital workplace

Review Heat Transfer of Non-Newtonian Fluids in Agitated Tanks

    Get PDF
The heating and cooling of non-Newtonian liquids in tanks with mechanical impellers are operations commonly employed as chemical reactors, heat exchangers, distillers, extractors, thinners and decanters. In particular, the design of heat exchangers (jackets, helical coils, spiral coils and vertical tubular baffles) in tanks requires the prior knowledge of the rheology of the liquid for the calculation of the convection coefficients and the Reynolds number, in order to obtain the area thermal exchange. This chapter aimed to present the basic concepts of tanks with agitation, non-Newtonian liquids, hydrodynamics, heat transfer and, finally, with a practical design example for engineers and undergraduate students

PUBLIC VALUE AND IT CAPACITY IN AN UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT: CASE STUDY IN GOVERNMENT AGENCY

    Get PDF
This study addresses, in a qualitative method, the explanation of how technical artifacts are socially constructed, providing IT flexibility, allowing operational capacity to generate public value. One of the premises of the Public Value Operational Capacity points out that flexibility is a fundamental aspect for success in government agencies. The study consists of a qualitative analysis of the revealing single-case study method. A preliminary analysis indicates a deficiency in the social constructions of IT artifacts, considering that the objectives in government organization are constantly changing due to changes in public policy. As a result, this study helps bridge the gap through a theoretical perspective on IT flexibility by providing an intuitive approach to IT management and public value management. From a practical point of view, we believe the results of this study will offer several management implications for IT and public policy managers

Design of Heat Transfer Surfaces in Agitated Vessels

    Get PDF
The project on heat transfer surfaces in agitated vessels is based on the determination of the heat exchange area, which is necessary to abide by the process conditions as mixing quality and efficiency of heat transfer. The heat transfer area is determined from the overall heat transfer coefficient (U). The coefficient (U) represents the operation quality in heat transfers being a function of conduction and convection mechanisms. The determination of U is held from the Nusselt’s number, which is related to the dimensionless Reynolds and Prandtl’s, and from the fluid’s viscosity relation that is being agitated in the bulk temperature and the viscosity in the wall’s temperature of heat exchange. The aim of this chapter is to present a summary for the literature concerning heat transfer in agitated vessels (equipped with jackets, helical coils, spiral coils, and vertical tube baffles) and also the many parameters of Nusselt’s equation for these surfaces. It will present a numerical example for a project in an agitated vessel using vertical tube baffles and a 45° pitched blade turbine. Subsequently, the same procedure is held with a turbine radial impeller, in order to compare the heat transfer efficiencies

The main purpose of this study was to verify why incontinent women, users of a Basic Healthcare Unit in Campinas, SP, do not seek treatment for urinary incontinence (UI). This is a descriptive, cross-section study, where 213 women who attended the service to have their cancer cytology examination were approached, and 35 of them, being incontinent, were included in the study. Three questionnaires were used: ICIQ-SF, King's Health Questionnaire and a specific instrument elaborated for this study. A large share of the subjects (45.7%) did not know any form of UI treatment, and more than half (65.7%) did not seek treatment for the problem, with the main stated reasons being that they thought that urinary loss was normal, did not consider it important and the physician said that it was not necessary. It is concluded that the lack of knowledge about the types of treatment can contribute for not seeking professional help.O objetivo principal foi verificar as razões da não procura pelo tratamento da incontinência urinária (IU) entre mulheres incontinentes, usuárias de uma Unidade Básica de Saúde em Campinas, SP.
