Critical analysis of a Musculoskeletal Disorders Prevention ProgramThe studies involving the development of occupational diseases and accidents at work prevention programs have delimited two facts. One of them is that the program must be linked to the general organization politics. The other fact is that the diagnosis and the intervention about the organizational culture are necessary for the program to reach its goals. This research have aimed to evaluate an ergonomic intervention called Legislature Court, – Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders Program – developed, during one year, at the in Santa Catarina, compounded by 61 work environments. The demand have come from the institution direction, which have noticed the growing rise of Musculoskeletal Disorders. Thus, the direction have hired two professionals from the Ergonomics area (phychologist and physiotherapist) for contributing to the team organization which would be formed by the institutions´employess. The PMDP have initially aimed: to investigate the diseases demand and to evaluate the professionals, able to participate in the multidisciplinary team which would develop the PMDP. The program have gathered diagnosis strategies and interventions highlighted by ergonomics, work psychology and physiotherapy. The strategies were brought in two dimensions: the organizational and the individual. On the individual dimension there were performed physical activities on the work environment, followed by discussions about body conscious, in 14 place of the institution, visitations for understanding the work conditions, followed by discussions about the furniture adequacy and body posture; and three groups of preventive activities. On the organizational dimension it was planned for the multidisciplinary team to integrate the department in charge of the maintenance of the building and the health department. For the critical analysis of the program’s results, the data were collected by: : a) historical rescue of the PMDP; b) surveys with the employees who partipated in the multidisciplinary team; c) questionnaires in a stratified pre-sample of the activities´particpants. The critical analysis of the program´s results, can be initially understood, by the political aspect, due to the fact that the multidisciplinary team was built aiming the self-management, facing the human relations´ institutionalization, which permeates the politics adopted by the Intitution. However, the team didn´t reflect about the politics ´attitude and how it was against the whole organization politics. The team professional project was intervening on the Musculoskeletal Disorders prevention. This made them to be recognized as references on Ergonomics and Health. However, the team wasn´t recognized by the institution’s direction, who didn’t have a commitment with the PMDP. To conclude, the result’s criticism shows the comprehension a team must have about its own politics, about its organization politics and how it can determine a Musculoskeletal Disorders Prevention Program and its limits

Avellaneda y Cervantes en la formación de los lectores del Quijote

IX Congresso Brasileiro de Hispanistas realizado nos dias 22 a 25 agosto 2016En este artículo, nos interesa subrayar el carácter burlesco de la obra de Avellaneda en su tiempo y como esta lectura puede, en nuestros días, favorecer el acercamiento de jóvenes lectores al Quijote. Dicho de otro modo, actualmente, llevar a jóvenes lectores del Quijote la tríade de obras que componen la historia del caballero manchego puede volverse una oportunidad singular de enseñarles cómo vida y literatura se cruzan en los mismos caminos y ,de pronto, pueden ser inmortalizadas por la tinta de grandes escritores como fueron Cervantes y Avellaneda. En ese sentido, conocer la tríade poética y las justas literarias – y personales – que convirtieron al Quijote en un personaje disputado públicamente por escritores puede servir como un motor de interés por la lectura de la obra no sólo en el contexto escolar sino que en otros contextos. No se trata de una defensa de Avellaneda ni tampoco de achicamiento de Cervantes sino de engrandecer al Quijote evidenciando que tanto lectores del siglo XVII como del siglo XXI se divierten riéndose de las aventuras del caballero Don Quijote de la Mancha y que se encantan con la continuación “falsa” y con el hecho magistral de que Cervantes convierte a sus personajes en personas de “carne y hueso” que juzgan a la obra avellanedesca. Al poner de relieve la importancia de la lectura de Avellaneda anhelamos contribuir aún más para el enriquecimiento de la comprensión de la obra cervantina al mismo tiempo en que eso se convierte, desde el Siglo de Oro, en un aumento expresivo de interés por la lectura de las aventuras del Quijote. Por lo tanto, nuestro objetivo es señalar que participar el joven lector, en contexto escolar o académico, de la tríade quijotesca y de los misterios y justas que la conforman actúa incisivamente en la formación de este lector y lo hace comprender los motivos que erigen Don Quijote como un personaje innolvidable y a la obra cervantina como un monumento de la literatura universalUNILA­-UNIOEST

False Vacuum Transitions - Analytical Solutions and Decay Rate Values

The Flutists of the John Philip Sousa’s Band: A Study of the Flute Section and Soloists

The Sousa Band is widely known because of its leader and his compositions. Although it was one of the most successful ensembles in history, most of the instrumentalists and individuals who contributed to its success have had their legacies forgotten. The flute section of the Sousa Band is an example of a group of musicians who were recognized as some of the best in the United States during their time, but are neglected by the present flute community. My research focused on gathering data about the flute section and the individuals who were instrumental for the creation and development of the Sousa Band. An extensive investigation through old newspapers, old music journals, multiple publications on John Philip Sousa and his band, and the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign demonstrated that a considerable amount of information on the flute players was scattered throughout government documents, such as military registers and census, local newspapers, old advertisements of instruments’ factories, obituaries, small entries on flute books, ancestry websites, and private collections. Therefore, I found it important to study them in order to produce a document that preserves and brings their legacy to light. The findings of my investigation demonstrate how significant the flute section was both to the Sousa Band and the music community at large. The flute and piccolo players were frequently featured as soloists with prominent ensembles, and their virtuosity and expertise made them not only acclaimed performers but also relevant teachers during their time. Additionally, my research shows how important those flute players were in the recording industry. They occupied permanent positions in recording studios and were featured on hundreds of records by the most important recording labels of their time. Finally, my document may serve as an addition to flute books and encyclopedias as it covers a missing part of the history of the flute and piccolo in the United States at the turn of the 20th century. Emphasizing the role played by the flute section of the Sousa Band in this period, this document provides biographical information on the main flute players and teachers who were part of this section. It also provides information about some of their students who became influential musicians and university professors who passed along the legacy of the flute players of the Sousa Band to the next generations

Influências ambientais no cultivo da vieira (Nodipecten nodosus) durante o outono/inverno na região de Florianópolis-SC

TCC (graduação em Engenharia de Aquicultura) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências Agrárias, 2009O desenvolvimento deste trabalho de conclusão de curso faz parte do projeto "Influências ambientais no cultivo de moluscos bivalves na região de Florianópolis, SC", realizado durante o período de outono e inverno, entre 28 de abril e 28 de agosto de 2009. O experimento foi instalado em quatro locais (Praia do Forte, Sambaqui, Ribeirão da Ilha e Caieira da Barra do Sul), situado nas baías adjacentes à Ilha de Santa Catarina e que possuem condições de cultivo da vieira Nodipecten nodosus. Foram analisados bimensalmente o crescimento em concha, peso seco dos tecidos, gônada, músculo e sobrevivência por meio de amostras dos exemplares do pectinídeo. Através das coletas quinzenais de água, foram avaliados os parâmetros ambientais (TPM, POM, PIM, temperatura, salinidade, turbidez, oxigênio dissolvido e clorofila-a). Os locais apresentaram diferença significativa (p < 0,05) no crescimento em concha, peso dos tecidos e músculo sendo o maior crescimento observado na Praia do Forte. A taxa de sobrevivência foi similar entre os locais e variou de 58,94 e 66,60 %. O fouling não foi prejudicial no crescimento das vieiras durante o período estudado. A temperatura na Caieira apresentou uma tendência a menores valores além de também terem sido observados os menores resultados de crescimento. Sambaqui apresentou maior turbidez, concentração de matéria orgânica particulada e clorofila que nos demais locais. De acordo com os resultados, a Praia do Forte demonstrou ser, entre os quatro locais, o mais adequado, para um cultivo de N. nodosus. A continuidade do experimento para obter resultados de um período maior de desenvolvimento do pectinídeo é importante para ampliar as estratégias de manejo e otimizar o cultivo de N. nodosus na Ilha de Santa Catarina

Intersections of Astrophysics, Cosmology and Particle Physics

With the success of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, a new era of discovery has just begun. The SU(3)C x SU(2)L x U(1)Y Standard Model (SM) of electroweak and strong interactions has once again endured intensive scrutiny. Most spectacularly, the recent discovery of a particle which seems to be the SM Higgs has possibly plugged the final remaining experimental hole in the SM, cementing the theory further. Adding more to the story, the IceCube Collaboration recently reported the discovery of extraterrestrial neutrinos, heralding a new era in astroparticle physics. The collaboration was able to isolate 36 events in 3 years of data, with energies between 30 TeV \u3c E \u3c 2 PeV. These events are consistent with an isotropic distribution in the sky, and a purely atmospheric explanation of the data can be excluded at 5.7σ. However, problems still exist. Cosmological observations concerning dark matter and the expansion rate of the Universe have shown us our picture of the basic constituents of the Universe and the interactions among them are not fully understood. In addition, the determination of the origin of high energy neutrinos has proven to be a quite formidable problem, with many possible candidates for sources. Motivated by the these problems, we study and impose constraints on a dark matter model, and consider the idea of starburts and Galatic microquasars as possible astrophysical sources for the high energy neutrino events observed at IceCube. In addition, dark matter decay is considered as a way to explain high-energy neutrino events and reconcile the tension between measurements of the Hubble constant by different observation methods

Are consumers wiling to adhere to companies’ environmentally friendly packaging? : case study on Rituals and Lush Refill vs Naked Package

Rituals and Lush are two cosmetic companies that have went beyond just addressing pollution to create a strategy of environmental sustainability thru their packaging or lack of it. Rituals created a refill packaging for all its body and face moisturizers, and in the other hand Lush removed 35% of the packaging of their products. This thesis provides a closer look at these two companies and their environmental initiatives regarding packaging, as well as the consumers behaviour and its effectiveness and see how this could influence their willingness to pay more for environmentally friendly products. In order to understand if Rituals and Lush initiatives are aligned with consumers. The analysis is based on the literature, mystery clients, focus groups and survey. The main results showed that both brands’ packaging concepts are welcome by the consumers, and that if the issues mentioned in this thesis are addressed, they can become an example for the rest of the market. As it was seen that besides consumers’ wiliness to have environmental behaviours when questioned about the prices the same openness was not shown.Rituals e a Lush são duas empresas de cosméticos que procuraram ir além de abordar a poluição para criar uma estratégia de sustentabilidade ambiental através das suas embalagens ou a falta delas. A Rituals desenvolveu uma embalagem de recarga para todos os hidratantes corporais e faciais, e a Lush, por outro lado, retirou 35% das embalagens dos seus produtos. Esta tese fornece um olhar mais atento a estas duas empresas e às suas iniciativas ambientais em relação às embalagens, bem como ao comportamento dos consumidores, à sua eficácia e como esta pode influenciar a disposição de pagar mais por produtos amigos do ambiente. Isto irá ajudar a entender se as iniciativas Rituals e Lush estão alinhadas com os consumidores. A análise é baseada na literatura, clientes mistério, grupos de foco e um questionário. Os resultados mostraram que os conceitos referidos são bem-recebidos pelos consumidores, e que se as preocupações mencionadas nesta tese forem abordadas, estas empresas podem se tornar num exemplo para o resto do mercado. Também foi visto que apesar de existirem comportamentos ambientalmente amigáveis por parte dos consumidores, estes quando questionados sobre os preços não mostraram grande abertura
