Apocalyptism, environmentalism and the other in Don DeLillo's End Zone, Great Jones Street and Ratner's Star
Throughout his writing, Don DeLillo has demonstrated a proclivity for thinking about the end. This subject emerges in various ways: through the discussion of nuclear war and chemical spills as well as an individual's fear of their inevitable demise. However, though DeLillo’s fiction may explore multiple meanings of ‘end’ and though our anxiety for the end may remain, the ability for us to understand or predict the end is constantly changing. In contemporary eco-criticism, critics suggest that apocalyptism paves the way for new forms of thinking about our environment, as well as our relationships with others. This essay will look at three novels from the 1970s, End Zone (1972) Great Jones Street (1973) and Ratner’s Star (1976) to trace how DeLillo creates fictions that think through the ethics of representation, in which ‘ending’ means to re-think our relationship to others. In doing this, he suggests that we must adapt our nuclear anxiety to form new social and ethical connections

The reconnoiter inward: interiority and spatial aesthetics in the novels of Don DeLillo and J. M. Coetzee
The novel, as I will show, has an historic association with the interior. In its emergence through what Ian Watt refers to as ‘realist particularity,’ the novel allowed new access to the interior lives of human beings. As I discuss, this interiority is both real and imagined, a means of giving shape to life in modernity. This shaping, however, not only affects the depiction of interior spaces in fiction, but the space of fiction itself. In this, I suggest, we find a complex literary architecture that is foundational to the western canon.
I trace how this elastic interiority has been imagined in the work of Don DeLillo and J. M. Coetzee. My project reads the work of my chosen others together as a way of drawing attention to their shared investment in literary architecture. I will firstly outline the history of interiority in the novel from the house of fiction of Henry James and the interior architecture of Edith Wharton, to the modernist dismantling of novelistic geography in Franz Kafka. I focus on the work of Samuel Beckett whose radical reimaging of literary geography not only questioned the space of fiction but the ethics of looking for a fictional subject. In my second and third chapter, I outline the legacy literary architecture has had throughout DeLillo and Coetzee’s oeuvre. In my conclusion, I read two novels—Point Omega and Disgrace respectively—as a way of mapping their challenge to the boundaries of contemporary global politics and its invasion into interior life
A Study of the Orbits of the Logarithmic Potential for Galaxies
The logarithmic potential is of great interest and relevance in the study of
the dynamics of galaxies. Some small corrections to the work of Contopoulos &
Seimenis (1990) who used the method of Prendergast (1982) to find periodic
orbits and bifurcations within such a potential are presented. The solution of
the orbital radial equation for the purely radial logarithmic potential is then
considered using the p-ellipse (precessing ellipse) method pioneered by Struck
(2006). This differential orbital equation is a special case of the generalized
Burgers equation. The apsidal angle is also determined, both numerically as
well as analytically by means of the Lambert W and the Polylogarithm functions.
The use of these functions in computing the gravitational lensing produced by

Derivation of renormalized Gibbs measures from equilibrium many-body quantum Bose gases
We review our recent result on the rigorous derivation of the renormalized
Gibbs measure from the many-body Gibbs state in 1D and 2D. The many-body
renormalization is accomplished by simply tuning the chemical potential in the
grand-canonical ensemble, which is analogous to the Wick ordering in the

Correlates of comorbid anxiety and externalizing disorders in childhood obsessive compulsive disorder
The present study examines the influence of diagnostic comorbidity on the demographic, psychiatric, and functional status of youth with a primary diagnosis of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Two hundred and fifteen children (ages 5–17) referred to a university-based OCD specialty clinic were compared based on DSM-IV diagnostic profile: OCD without comorbid anxiety or externalizing disorder, OCD plus anxiety disorder, and OCD plus externalizing disorder. No age or gender differences were found across groups. Higher OCD severity was found for the OCD + ANX group, while the OCD + EXT group reported greater functional impairment than the other two groups. Lower family cohesion was reported by the OCD + EXT group compared to the OCD group and the OCD + ANX group reported higher family conflict compared to the OCD + EXT group. The OCD + ANX group had significantly lower rates of tic disorders while rates of depressive disorders did not differ among the three groups. The presence of comorbid anxiety and externalizing psychopathology are associated with greater symptom severity and functional and family impairment and underscores the importance of a better understanding of the relationship of OCD characteristics and associated disorders. Radiative corrections to the Chern-Simons term at finite temperature in the noncommutative Chern-Simons-Higgs model
By analyzing the odd parity part of the gauge field two and three point
vertex functions, the one-loop radiative correction to the Chern-Simons
coefficient is computed in noncommutative Chern-Simons-Higgs model at zero and
at high temperature. At high temperature, we show that the static limit of this
correction is proportional to but the first noncommutative correction
increases as . Our results are analytic functions of the

The ZEPLIN II dark matter detector: data acquisition system and data reduction
ZEPLIN-II is a two-phase (liquid/gas) xenon dark matter detector searching
for WIMP-nucleon interactions. In this paper we describe the data acquisition
system used to record the data from ZEPLIN-II and the reduction procedures
