    Get PDF
AbstractThis paper investigates the electrical properties of the coating based on Ti–C–B system. The coating was obtained by vacuum-arc method by spraying of multi compound cathode prepared by reactive hot pressing of Ti, carbon black and amorphous B powder mixture. The electrical conductivity of the coating was measured in temperature range of 10–320K which was about σ=4.8·103Ω−1cm−1 in the entire temperature range. The carrier concentration measured was about n=1·1022 cm−3. The charge carriers’ mobility varies between 10 and −7 and changes sign at temperature about T=225K

Manganese Content Control in Weld Metal During MAG Welding

    Get PDF
The influence of the welding current and method of gas shielding in MAG welding on the content of manganese is considered in the paper. Results of study of the welded specimens of steels 45 when applying welding wire of different formulas and different types of gas shielding (traditional shielding and double-jet shielding) are given. It is found that in MAG welding the value of the welding current and the speed of the gas flow from the welding nozzle have a considerable impact on the chemical composition of the weld metal. The consumable electrode welding under double-jet gas shielding provides the directed gas-dynamics in the welding area and enables controlling the electrode metal transfer and the chemical composition of a weld

Axial vector current in an electromagnetic field and low-energy neutrino-photon interactions

An expression for the axial vector current in a strong, slowly varying electromagnetic field is obtained. We apply this expression to the construction of the effective action for low-energy neutrino-photon interactions.Comment: 6 pages, references updated, final version to appear in Phys. Rev.

Interaction of quasilocal harmonic modes and boson peak in glasses

The direct proportionality relation between the boson peak maximum in glasses, ωb\omega_b, and the Ioffe-Regel crossover frequency for phonons, ωd\omega_d, is established. For several investigated materials ωb=(1.5±0.1)ωd\omega_b = (1.5\pm 0.1)\omega_d. At the frequency ωd\omega_d the mean free path of the phonons ll becomes equal to their wavelength because of strong resonant scattering on quasilocal harmonic oscillators. Above this frequency phonons cease to exist. We prove that the established correlation between ωb\omega_b and ωd\omega_d holds in the general case and is a direct consequence of bilinear coupling of quasilocal oscillators with the strain field.Comment: RevTex, 4 pages, 1 figur

Reliability of fluctuation-induced transport in a Maxwell-demon-type engine

    Get PDF
We study the transport properties of an overdamped Brownian particle which is simultaneously in contact with two thermal baths. The first bath is modeled by an additive thermal noise at temperature TAT_A. The second bath is associated with a multiplicative thermal noise at temperature TBT_B. The analytical expressions for the particle velocity and diffusion constant are derived for this system, and the reliability or coherence of transport is analyzed by means of their ratio in terms of a dimensionless P\'{e}clet number. We find that the transport is not very coherent, though one can get significantly higher currents.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure

Effect of Bias Voltage and Nitrogen Pressure on the Structure and Properties of Vacuum-Arc (Mo + Ti6%Si)N Coatings

    Get PDF
Effect of deposition conditions in reactive nitrogen atmosphere on the growth morphology, phase composition, structure, and mechanical characteristics (microhardness) of vacuum-arc multilayer coatings obtained using evaporation of the (Ti6%Si) and Mo cathodes is studied with the aid of raster electron micros- copy, energy-dispersive elemental microanalysis, and microindentation. It is demonstrated that nitrogen atoms are redistributed to the region of the strongest nitride-forming element (Ti) in relatively thin layers (about 7 nm) consisting of substances with substantially different heats of formation (−336 kJ/mol for TiN and −34 kJ/mol for MoN). Such a process leads to lamination with the formation of nitride TiN and metal Mo (weaker nitride-forming element). Nitrogen–metal bonds are saturated in the layers of strong nitride- forming elements Ti(Si) when the nitrogen pressure increases from 6 × 10–4 to 5 × 10–3 Torr in the conden- sation procedure. Thus, the compound is filled with nitrogen to the stoichiometric composition and, then, the second system of layers based on molybdenum is saturated with nitrogen with the formation of the γ- Mo2N phase. An increase in bias potential USP from –100 to –200 V stimulates mixing in thin layers with the formation of the (Ti, Si, Mo)N solid solution and leads to a decrease in microhardness from 37 to 32 GPa

A search for direct production of C-even resonances a2(1320) and f2(1270) in e+e- annihilation was performed with SND detector at VEPP-2M e+e- collider. The upper limits of electronic widths of these mesons were obtained at 90% confidence level: Gamma(a2(1320) \to e+e-) < 0.56 eV, Gamma(f2(1270) \to e+e-) < 0.11 eV.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, 1 table. Long-Range Forces of QCD

    Get PDF
We consider the scattering of two color dipoles (e.g., heavy quarkonium states) at low energy - a QCD analog of Van der Waals interaction. Even though the couplings of the dipoles to the gluon field can be described in perturbation theory, which leads to the potential proportional to (N_c^2-1)/R^{7}, at large distances R the interaction becomes totally non-perturbative. Low-energy QCD theorems are used to evaluate the leading long-distance contribution \sim (N_f^2-1)/(11N_c - 2N_f)^2 R^{-5/2} exp(-2 \mu R) (\mu is the Goldstone boson mass), which is shown to arise from the correlated two-boson exchange. The sum rule which relates the overall strength of the interaction to the energy density of QCD vacuum is derived. Surprisingly, we find that when the size of the dipoles shrinks to zero (the heavy quark limit in the case of quarkonia), the non-perturbative part of the interaction vanishes more slowly than the perturbative part as a consequence of scale anomaly. As an application, we evaluate elastic \pi J/\psi and \pi J/\psi \to \pi \psi' cross sections.Comment: 16pages, 9 eps figures; discussion extended, 2 new references added, to appear in Phys.Rev.
