Quasi-monoenergetic proton beams by laser-plasma X-rays
We report the details of a technique for the production of proton beams with very low energy spread exploiting the short soft X-rays obtained by laser ablation. These beams have been generated by the dissociation and ionization of an hydrogen buffer gas induced by the laser-plasma X-rays and then accelerated by means of an electrostatic accelerator. Their properties have been analyzed through the time-of-flight method applying different accelerating voltages. The resulting energetic spread ranges between 6 and 11%, as a function of the applied voltage. Such a system could be extremely useful for producing quasi-monoenergetic proton beams
Divergent platforms
Models of electoral competition between two opportunistic, office-motivated parties typically predict that both parties become indistinguishable in equilibrium. I show that this strong connection between the office motivation of parties and their equilibrium choice of identical platforms depends on two—possibly false—assumptions: (1) Issue spaces are uni-dimensional and (2) Parties are unitary actors whose preferences can be represented by expected utilities. I provide an example of a two-party model in which parties offer substantially different equilibrium platforms even though no exogenous differences between parties are assumed. In this example, some voters’ preferences over the 2-dimensional issue space exhibit non-convexities and parties evaluate their actions with respect to a set of beliefs on the electorate
Interbank borrowing and lending between financially constrained banks
Some stylized facts about transactions among banks are not easily reconciled with coinsurance of short-term liquidity risks. In our model, interbank markets play a different role. We argue that lending to another bank can reduce a bank’s overall portfolio risk through diversification. If insolvency is costly, this diversification improves the interbank lender's funding liquidity, boosting credit supply to nonbanks. However, diversification comes at an endogenous cost that depends on bank-specific factors of interbank borrower and lender. The model provides a framework for understanding the importance of interbank lending for aggregate credit supply and the stability of banking systems. The model’s predictions are consistent with evidence documented in the literature that other theories cannot consistently explain
Inclusive Dielectron Production in Ar+KCl Collisions at 1.76 AGeV studied with HADES
Results of the HADES measurement of inclusive dielectron production in Ar+KCl
collisions at a kinetic beam energy of 1.76 AGeV are presented. For the first
time, high mass resolution spectroscopy was performed. The invariant mass
spectrum of dielectrons is compared with predictions of UrQMD and HSD transport
codes.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures - To appear in the conference proceedings for

Partial Wave Analysis of the Reaction to Search for the "" Bound State
Employing the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis framework (PWA), we have
analyzed HADES data of the reaction . This
reaction might contain information about the kaonic cluster "" via its
decay into . Due to interference effects in our coherent description
of the data, a hypothetical (or, specifically "")
cluster signal must not necessarily show up as a pronounced feature (e.g. a
peak) in an invariant mass spectra like . Our PWA analysis includes a
variety of resonant and non-resonant intermediate states and delivers a good
description of our data (various angular distributions and two-hadron invariant
mass spectra) without a contribution of a cluster. At a
confidence level of CL=95\% such a cluster can not contribute more than
2-12\% to the total cross section with a final state, which
translates into a production cross-section between 0.7 and 4.2 ,
respectively. The range of the upper limit depends on the assumed cluster mass,
width and production process.Comment: 7 Pages, 5 Figure
Future perspectives at SIS-100 with HADES-at-FAIR
Currently, the HADES spectrometer undergoes un upgrade program to be prepared
for measurements at the upcoming SIS-100 synchrotron at FAIR. We describe the
current status of the HADES di-electron measurements at the SIS-18 and our
future plans for SIS-100.Comment: Invited contribution presented at the XLVII International Winter

Searching a Dark Photon with HADES
We present a search for the e+e- decay of a hypothetical dark photon, also
names U vector boson, in inclusive dielectron spectra measured by HADES in the
p (3.5 GeV) + p, Nb reactions, as well as the Ar (1.756 GeV/u) + KCl reaction.
An upper limit on the kinetic mixing parameter squared epsilon^{2} at 90% CL
has been obtained for the mass range M(U) = 0.02 - 0.55 GeV/c2 and is compared
with the present world data set. For masses 0.03 - 0.1 GeV/c^2, the limit has
been lowered with respect to previous results, allowing now to exclude a large
part of the parameter region favoured by the muon g-2 anomaly. Furthermore, an
improved upper limit on the branching ratio of 2.3 * 10^{-6} has been set on
the helicity-suppressed direct decay of the eta meson, eta-> e+e-, at 90% CL
