On a two variable class of Bernstein-Szego measures

The one variable Bernstein-Szego theory for orthogonal polynomials on the real line is extended to a class of two variable measures. The polynomials orthonormal in the total degree ordering and the lexicographical ordering are constructed and their recurrence coefficients discussed.Comment: minor change

TEACHING CRAFT AS AN ART: TEACHER’S REPERTOIRE OF SKILLS AND STRATEGIES VIA PROFESSIONAL ENHANCEMENT

    Get PDF
This research discloses one of the dimensions of the teachers’ quality of work life among secondary teachers. It was found out that professional growth and development through continuing education had a significant correlation with the amount of trainings that the teachers had. The more training the teachers had engaged with, the better they become as a professional teacher. It equipped them to be more productive and skillful. They felt the great importance of this dimension in their teaching career. Teachers became aware of the current trends and innovations through career progression. It also showed the greatest impact on the teachers quality of work life. Teachers positively embraced the significant contributions it could bring to the teaching profession and that secondary teachers could possess varied repertoire of skills and strategies in the teaching and learning process through professional growth and continuing education

Gender-based analysis on self-efficacy beliefs of pre-service teachers and their readiness in taking licensure examination

    Get PDF
The study aimed to determine whether preservice teachers’ self-efficacy belief differs according to gender and whether this belief relates to their readiness in taking the licensure examination for teachers (LET). Participants of the study were 545 preservice teachers who were undergoing in-service training both from the secondary and elementary programs that came from four campuses of the university. The researcher utilized a descriptive quantitative approach with weighted mean, t-test for the independent sample, and Pearson R correlation statistical treatments for the data. Results revealed that females are statistically higher in self-efficacy beliefs than their male counterparts. Further, the study disclosed that female preservice teachers are significantly more ready to take the examination than their male peers. In addition, the male students’ self-efficacy beliefs statistically have a positive significant relationship to their readiness to take examination. Meanwhile, a positive significant relationship exists also between self-efficacy beliefs and readiness in taking the test with their female counterparts

Let \psi \in L_{\infty }(\mbox{\smallbf R}) be positive on a set of positive measure. For n1n\geq 1, one may form Sobolev orthonormal polynomials (qn)( q_{n}) , associated with the Sobolev inner product ( f,g) =\int_{\mbox{\scriptsize\bf R}}fg( \psi W) ^{2}+\lambda \int_{\mbox{\scriptsize\bf R}}f^{\prime }g^{\prime }W^{2}. We establish strong asymptotics for the (qn)( q_{n}) in terms of the ordinary orthonormal polynomials (pn)( p_{n}) for the weight W2W^{2}, on and off the real line. More generally, we establish a close asymptotic relationship between (pn)( p_{n}) and (qn)( q_{n}) for exponential weights W=exp(Q)W=\exp ( -Q) on a real interval II, under mild conditions on QQ. The method is new and will apply to many situations beyond that treated in this paper. The work by F. Planetary Spectrum Generator: an accurate online radiative transfer suite for atmospheres, comets, small bodies and exoplanets

We have developed an online radiative-transfer suite (https://psg.gsfc.nasa.gov) applicable to a broad range of planetary objects (e.g., planets, moons, comets, asteroids, TNOs, KBOs, exoplanets). The Planetary Spectrum Generator (PSG) can synthesize planetary spectra (atmospheres and surfaces) for a broad range of wavelengths (UV/Vis/near-IR/IR/far-IR/THz/sub-mm/Radio) from any observatory (e.g., JWST, ALMA, Keck, SOFIA), any orbiter (e.g., ExoMars, Juno), or any lander (e.g., MSL). This is achieved by combining several state-of-the-art radiative transfer models, spectroscopic databases and planetary databases (i.e., climatological and orbital). PSG has a 3D (three-dimensional) orbital calculator for most bodies in the solar system, and all confirmed exoplanets, while the radiative-transfer models can ingest billions of spectral signatures for hundreds of species from several spectroscopic repositories. It integrates the latest radiative-transfer and scattering methods in order to compute high resolution spectra via line-by-line calculations, and utilizes the efficient correlated-k method at moderate resolutions, while for computing cometary spectra, PSG handles non-LTE and LTE excitation processes. PSG includes a realistic noise calculator that integrates several telescope / instrument configurations (e.g., interferometry, coronagraphs) and detector technologies (e.g., CCD, heterodyne detectors, bolometers). Such an integration of advanced spectroscopic methods into an online tool can greatly serve the planetary community, ultimately enabling the retrieval of planetary parameters from remote sensing data, efficient mission planning strategies, interpretation of current and future planetary data, calibration of spectroscopic data, and development of new instrument/spacecraft concepts.Comment: Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, submitte

Resectable IIIA-N2 non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC): In search for the proper treatment

    Get PDF
Locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer accounts for one third of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at the time of initial diagnosis and presents with a wide range of clinical and pathological heterogeneity. To date, the combined multimodality approach involving both local and systemic control is the gold standard for these patients, since occult distant micrometastatic disease should always be suspected. With the rapid increase in treatment options, the need for an interdisciplinary discussion involving oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists and radiologists has become essential. Surgery should be recommended to patients with non-bulky, discrete, or single-level N2 involvement and be included in the multimodality treatment. Resectable stage IIIA patients have been the subject of a number of clinical trials and retrospective analysis, discussing the efficiency and survival benefits on patients treated with the available therapeutic approaches. However, most of them have some limitations due to their retrospective nature, lack of exact pretreatment staging, and the involvement of heterogeneous populations leading to the awareness that each patient should undergo a tailored therapy in light of the nature of his tumor, its extension and his performance status
