Fractal Weyl law for Linux Kernel Architecture

We study the properties of spectrum and eigenstates of the Google matrix of a directed network formed by the procedure calls in the Linux Kernel. Our results obtained for various versions of the Linux Kernel show that the spectrum is characterized by the fractal Weyl law established recently for systems of quantum chaotic scattering and the Perron-Frobenius operators of dynamical maps. The fractal Weyl exponent is found to be Μ≈0.63\nu \approx 0.63 that corresponds to the fractal dimension of the network d≈1.2d \approx 1.2. The eigenmodes of the Google matrix of Linux Kernel are localized on certain principal nodes. We argue that the fractal Weyl law should be generic for directed networks with the fractal dimension d<2d<2.Comment: RevTex 6 pages, 7 figs, linked to arXiv:1003.5455[cs.SE]. Google matrix of business process management

Development of efficient business process models and determination of their characteristic properties are subject of intense interdisciplinary research. Here, we consider a business process model as a directed graph. Its nodes correspond to the units identified by the modeler and the link direction indicates the causal dependencies between units. It is of primary interest to obtain the stationary flow on such a directed graph, which corresponds to the steady-state of a firm during the business process. Following the ideas developed recently for the World Wide Web, we construct the Google matrix for our business process model and analyze its spectral properties. The importance of nodes is characterized by Page-Rank and recently proposed CheiRank and 2DRank, respectively. The results show that this two-dimensional ranking gives a significant information about the influence and communication properties of business model units. We argue that the Google matrix method, described here, provides a new efficient tool helping companies to make their decisions on how to evolve in the exceedingly dynamic global market.Comment: submitted to European Journal of Physics

Mapping the sound field of a 400 seat theater

To what extent does a receiver's location in a room impact what is heard and can that impact be modeled? For this line of study, acoustic parameters of a 400 seat theater were mapped as a function of position at every-seat resolution to quantify the spatial disparity of a sound field. A 1:20 scale model and a ray-tracing software model were then constructed. This study seeks to (1) relate the sound decay rate and pressure level measured at one theater seat to that measured at others, (2) compare the inter-seat sound field maps measured across the frequency spectrum with an eye toward the Schroeder cut-off frequency, and (3) determine the models' reliability in replicating the measured inter-seat variation.Michael. Ulam method for the Chirikov standard map

We introduce a generalized Ulam method and apply it to symplectic dynamical maps with a divided phase space. Our extensive numerical studies based on the Arnoldi method show that the Ulam approximant of the Perron-Frobenius operator on a chaotic component converges to a continuous limit. Typically, in this regime the spectrum of relaxation modes is characterized by a power law decay for small relaxation rates. Our numerical data show that the exponent of this decay is approximately equal to the exponent of Poincar\'e recurrences in such systems. The eigenmodes show links with trajectories sticking around stability islands.Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures, high resolution figures available at: http://www.quantware.ups-tlse.fr/QWLIB/ulammethod/ minor corrections in text and fig. 12 and revised discussio

Time evolution of Wikipedia network ranking

    Get PDF
We study the time evolution of ranking and spectral properties of the Google matrix of English Wikipedia hyperlink network during years 2003 - 2011. The statistical properties of ranking of Wikipedia articles via PageRank and CheiRank probabilities, as well as the matrix spectrum, are shown to be stabilized for 2007 - 2011. A special emphasis is done on ranking of Wikipedia personalities and universities. We show that PageRank selection is dominated by politicians while 2DRank, which combines PageRank and CheiRank, gives more accent on personalities of arts. The Wikipedia PageRank of universities recovers 80 percents of top universities of Shanghai ranking during the considered time period.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures. Accepted for publication in EPJ

Classical transients and the support of open quantum maps

    Get PDF
The basic ingredients in a semiclassical theory are the classical invariant objects serving as a support for the quantization. Recent studies, mainly obtained on quantum maps, have led to the commonly accepted belief that it is the classical repeller -- the set of non escaping orbits in the future and past evolution -- the object that suitably plays this role in open scattering systems. In this paper we present numerical evidence warning that this may not always be the case. For this purpose we study recently introduced families of tribaker maps [L. Ermann, G.G. Carlo, J.M. Pedrosa, and M. Saraceno, Phys. Rev. E {\bf 85}, 066204 (2012)], which share the same asymptotic properties but differ in their short time behavior. We have found that although the eigenvalue distribution of the evolution operator of these maps follows the fractal Weyl law prediction, the theory of short periodic orbits for open maps fails to describe the resonance eigenfunctions of some of them. This is a strong indication that new elements must be included in the semiclassical description of open quantum systems.Comment: 7 pages, 9 figure

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the efficacy and safety of ixekizumab for up to 52 weeks in two phase 3 studies of patients with active radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA) who were biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (bDMARD)-naive (COAST-V) or tumour necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi)-experienced (COAST-W). METHODS: Adults with active r-axSpA were randomised 1:1:1:1 (n=341) to 80 mg ixekizumab every 2 (IXE Q2W) or 4 weeks (IXE Q4W), placebo (PBO) or 40 mg adalimumab Q2W (ADA) in COAST-V and 1:1:1 (n=316) to IXE Q2W, IXE Q4W or PBO in COAST-W. At week 16, patients receiving ixekizumab continued their assigned treatment; patients receiving PBO or ADA were rerandomised 1:1 to IXE Q2W or IXE Q4W (PBO/IXE, ADA/IXE) through week 52. RESULTS: In COAST-V, Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society 40 (ASAS40) responses rates (intent-to-treat population, non-responder imputation) at weeks 16 and 52 were 48% and 53% (IXE Q4W); 52% and 51% (IXE Q2W); 36% and 51% (ADA/IXE); 19% and 47% (PBO/IXE). Corresponding ASAS40 response rates in COAST-W were 25% and 34% (IXE Q4W); 31% and 31% (IXE Q2W); 14% and 39% (PBO/IXE). Both ixekizumab regimens sustained improvements in disease activity, physical function, objective markers of inflammation, QoL, health status and overall function up to 52 weeks. Safety through 52 weeks of ixekizumab was consistent with safety through 16 weeks. CONCLUSION: The significant efficacy demonstrated with ixekizumab at week 16 was sustained for up to 52 weeks in bDMARD-naive and TNFi-experienced patients. bDMARD-naive patients initially treated with ADA demonstrated further numerical improvements after switching to ixekizumab. Safety findings were consistent with the known safety profile of ixekizumab. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT02696785/NCT02696798
