An efficient flamelet progress-variable method for modeling non-premixed flames in weak electric fields
Combustion stabilization and enhancement of the flammability limits are
mandatory objectives to improve nowadays combustion chambers. At this purpose,
the use of an electric field in the flame region provides a solution which is,
at the same time, easy to implement and effective to modify the flame
structure. The present work describes an efficient flamelet progress-variable
approach developed to model the fluid dynamics of flames immersed in an
electric field. The main feature of this model is that it can use complex
ionization mechanisms without increasing the computational cost of the
simulation. The model is based on the assumption that the combustion process is
not directly influenced by the electric field and has been tested using two
chemi-ionization mechanisms of different complexity in order to examine its
behavior with and without the presence of heavy anions in the mixture. Using a
one- and two-dimensional numerical test cases, the present approach has been
able to reproduce all the major aspects encountered when a flame is subject to
an imposed electric field and the main effects of the different chemical
mechanisms. Moreover, the proposed model is shown to produce a large reduction
in the computational cost, being able to shorten the time needed to perform a

Entanglement production by quantum error correction in the presence of correlated environment
We analyze the effect of a quantum error correcting code on the entanglement
of encoded logical qubits in the presence of a dephasing interaction with a
correlated environment. Such correlated reservoir introduces entanglement
between physical qubits. We show that for short times the quantum error
correction interprets such entanglement as errors and suppresses it. However
for longer time, although quantum error correction is no longer able to correct
errors, it enhances the rate of entanglement production due to the interaction

Entanglement detection in hybrid optomechanical systems
We study a device formed by a Bose Einstein condensate (BEC) coupled to the
field of a cavity with a moving end-mirror and find a working point such that
the mirror-light entanglement is reproduced by the BEC-light quantum
correlations. This provides an experimentally viable tool for inferring
mirror-light entanglement with only a limited set of assumptions. We prove the
existence of tripartite entanglement in the hybrid device, persisting up to

Berry phase for a spin 1/2 in a classical fluctuating field
The effect of fluctuations in the classical control parameters on the Berry
phase of a spin 1/2 interacting with a adiabatically cyclically varying
magnetic field is analyzed. It is explicitly shown that in the adiabatic limit

This paper will describe the way flexible classroom, started at primary school, can effectively promote seamless
learning in adulthood. From this point of view, a flexible classroom experience for children can become a toolbox
to use in their future to face seamless learning and smart working. This work shows that flexibility and adaptation
to change are propaedeutic to improve the scheduling and the selection process of learning spaces and times. To

Bi-Allelic Mutations in Zebrafish pank2 Gene Lead to Testicular Atrophy and Perturbed Behavior without Signs of Neurodegeneration
Coenzyme A (CoA) is an essential cofactor in all living organisms, being involved in a large number of chemical reactions. Sequence variations in pantothenate kinase 2 (PANK2), the first enzyme of CoA biosynthesis, are found in patients affected by Pantothenate Kinase Associated Neurodegeneration (PKAN), one of the most common forms of neurodegeneration, with brain iron accumulation. Knowledge about the biochemical and molecular features of this disorder has increased a lot in recent years. Nonetheless, the main culprit of the pathology is not well defined, and no treatment option is available yet. In order to contribute to the understanding of this disease and facilitate the search for therapies, we explored the potential of the zebrafish animal model and generated lines carrying biallelic mutations in the pank2 gene. The phenotypic characterization of pank2-mutant embryos revealed anomalies in the development of venous vascular structures and germ cells. Adult fish showed testicular atrophy and altered behavioral response in an anxiety test but no evident signs of neurodegeneration. The study suggests that selected cell and tissue types show a higher vulnerability to pank2 deficiency in zebrafish. Deciphering the biological basis of this phenomenon could provide relevant clues for better understanding and treating PKAN
Relation between growth dynamics and diffusional limitations in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells growing as entrapped in insolubilized gel
Flow-cytometric analysis was employed to investigate growth dynamics of a yeast cell population immobilised in an insolubilised gelatin gel by means of the quantitative determination of the average protein content per cell. This analysis was carried out on both the immobilised cell population considered as a whole and the subpopulations colonising the gelatin matrix at different depths. The results show that growth of the gelatin-immobilised yeast population was affected by the existence of a gradient of nutrient concentrations through the matrix and are in agreement with the unsteady-state diffusion model employed for the description of glucose transfer in the gel
