    State-of-the-art and future directions for green human resource management: introduction to the special issue

    The topic of environmental sustainability is generating increased concern among business executives, governments, consumers, and management scholars. As these stakeholders struggle with the challenges and opportunities presented by an array of environmental issues, HRM scholars and practitioners alike have been relatively slow to engage in the ongoing discussions and debates. Through this special issue on Green HRM, we seek to stimulate the field of HRM to expand its role in the pursuit of environmentally sustainable business. In this introduction to the special issue, we first provide an overview of the articles that appear in the special issue. Next we present a detailed discussion of research questions that arise from a consideration of several functional HRM practices, including performance management; training, development, and learning; compensation and rewards; and organizational culture. We conclude by describing opportunities for research at the intersection of strategic HRM and environmental management. If pursued with vigor, research addressing this extensive agenda could begin to establish a healthy field of Green HRM scholarship

    Growing Season Climate Variability and its Influence on Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris Berries and Wine Quality: Study Case in Romania (2005-2015)

    The purpose of our research was to find out what influence climatic variability in the growing season has on the berry and wine composition in two white grape varieties grown in the vineyard of Banat Universityof Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine from Timisoara, located in the western area of Romania.  The quality and characteristics of the wines produced in a limited area is essentially due to the environment,including natural and human factors. Two white cool-intermediate climate grape varieties - Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris were chosen to study the impact of climate change on the main characteristics of juice and wine. A number of 40 berries from each variety was chosen for phenol extraction, total soluble solids (sugar content), titratable acidity and pH determinations. Wine samples were analysed after one year of ageing in the bottle. Alcohol concentration was not majorly influenced by temperature and rainfall over the years. Some experimental years with hot weather were favourable for sugar accumulation in berries and wine respectively;therefore, potential alcohol also increased. In the last decade, annual and monthly variability of rainfall and temperature influenced the phenological cycle of grapevines most, delaying or accelerating the developing of foliar area, as well as the ripening and harvesting time, which has a direct influence on grapes and wine products

    THE MANAGEMENT AND CAPITALIZATION OF THE LANDSCAPING POTENTIAL OF THE CRUCII SQUARE FROM TIMISOARA CITY

    The Crucii Square is situated in the Elisabetin district in the city of Timisoara, in a residential area. According to a map from 1849, the current Crucii Square is situated on the very line of the building injunction circle around the fortress of Timisoara. The square name originates from an old cross which was preserved until today. Taking into the age of the oldest trees, the square was set as a green space after 1920. The current landscaping consists in tracing and slabbing the allies and building a new hero monument, also dates from after 1920. The square’s surface is of 6255mp. In the present paper we carried out an estimate of the green space and determined the current vegetation state, since green cadastre is the only way to determine the real state of green spaces belonging to a city’s patrimony, including parks and squares as well as the entire street vegetation (Ciupa et al., 2005). The paper‘s character is thus that of a vegetation fund inventory, as well as organisational design based on ecologic and landscaping criteria. The paper also comprises a square landscaping proposal, highlighting the site’s historic character and the high vegetation value

    Neutron polarizabilities investigated by quasi-free Compton scattering from the deuteron

    Measuring Compton scattered photons and recoil neutrons in coincidence, quasi-free Compton scattering by the neutron has been investigated at MAMI (Mainz) at thetaγlab=136otheta^{lab}_\gamma=136^o in an energy range from 200 to 400 MeV. From the data a polarizability difference of αn−βn=9.8±3.6(stat)−1.1+2.1(syst)±2.2(model)\alpha_n - \beta_n = 9.8 \pm 3.6(stat)^{+2.1}_{-1.1}(syst)\pm 2.2(model) in units of 10−4fm310^{-4}fm^3 has been determined. In combination with the polarizability sum αn+βn=15.2±0.5\alpha_n+\beta_n= 15.2\pm 0.5 deduced from photo absorption data, the neutron electric and magnetic polarizabilities, αn=12.5±1.8(stat)−0.6+1.1(syst)±1.1(model)\alpha_n=12.5\pm 1.8(stat)^{+1.1}_{-0.6}(syst)\pm 1.1(model) and βn=2.7∓1.8(stat)−1.1+0.6(syst)∓1.1(model)\beta_n = 2.7\mp 1.8(stat)^{+0.6}_{-1.1}(syst)\mp 1.1(model), are obtained

    ASSESSMENT OF PHENOTYPIC DIVERSITY FOR SOME RED ONION LANDRACES FROM TIMIÅž COUNTY

    The study`s aim was to assess the phenotypic diversity of bulb traits (shape index, diameter, height and weight) in 15 red onion landraces grown in saline areas of south western TimişCounty. In this region growers use mostly red onion landraces with a high adaptability to specific environmental conditions determined by the abiotic stress factors, including soil salinity. The obtained results showed that significant differences in bulb traits were present between the landraces. This study found that the diversity of the studied red onion landraces was distributed within, as well as among landarces from the same location. Some of the landraces like Sânmartinu S. 18, Livezile 151, PeciuNou 99 and Uivar 305 with favorable traits could be selected for further research and utilization

    Green human resource management: a comparative qualitative case study of a United States multinational corporation

    This article explores the ways in which a multinational company (MNC) approaches Green Human Resource Management (HRM) in its British, German and Swedish subsidiaries. The authors analyze the similarities and differences in Green HRM approaches in these three European subsidiaries of a US restaurant chain. This enables the comparison of Green HRM practises and behaviors, and considers the factors that influence the subsidiaries in this particular domain. Therefore, this research addresses the current lack of international comparative research in the field of Green HRM. The methodological approach is multi-case study with 50 participants, using semi-structured interviews and focus groups. The results show evidence of pro-active environmental management, reflected through a range of operational and people-centred initiatives across the three European countries. Although there is an overarching commitment to environmental sustainability, the positioning and alignment of the environment and HR function differ amongst the subsidiaries, as does the way in which the subsidiaries choose to engage the workforce in environmental sustainability. The study identified a number of factors which explain the differences in approach including, amongst others, strategic and performance drivers and cultural dimensions, such as relationships with key stakeholders

    Dispersion relations in real and virtual Compton scattering

    A unified presentation is given on the use of dispersion relations in the real and virtual Compton scattering processes off the nucleon. The way in which dispersion relations for Compton scattering amplitudes establish connections between low energy nucleon structure quantities, such as polarizabilities or anomalous magnetic moments, and the nucleon excitation spectrum is reviewed. We discuss various sum rules for forward real and virtual Compton scattering, such as the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule and its generalizations, the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule, as well as sum rules for forward nucleon polarizabilities, and review their experimental status. Subsequently, we address the general case of real Compton scattering (RCS). Various types of dispersion relations for RCS are presented as tools for extracting nucleon polarizabilities from the RCS data. The information on nucleon polarizabilities gained in this way is reviewed and the nucleon structure information encoded in these quantities is discussed. The dispersion relation formalism is then extended to virtual Compton scattering (VCS). The information on generalized nucleon polarizabilities extracted from recent VCS experiments is described, along with its interpretation in nucleon structure models. As a summary, the physics content of the existing data is discussed and some perspectives for future theoretical and experimental activities in this field are presented.Comment: 120 pages, 42 figures, to appear in Phys.
