Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the gastroprotective effects of a flavonoid rich fraction (FRF) obtained from Achyrocline satureoides. Methods: The following protocols were employed: ethanol and NSAID-induced ulcer, ligature pylorus model, and free mucus quantification. Nitric oxide (NO) and sulfhydryl group participation were observed by pretreatment with L-NAME or NEM. Besides, it was assayed the acetic acid-induced chronic ulcer andthe anti-Helicobacter pyloriactivity in vitro. Results: The phytochemical profile of FRF showed three main flavonoids, luteolin, quercetin and 3-O-methyl-quercetin. The administration of FRF was able to prevent the damage evoked by ethanol and NSAID-induced ulcer models. The pH and concentration of H+ in the stomach were not modified by FRF treatment. However, the FRF treatment induces mucus secretion. The effect presented by FRF was mediated by nitric oxide (NO). In chronic ulcer model FRF reduced significantly the lesion area, promoting a cure ratio of 65.42±13.00, a similar data presented by cimetidine treated animals (61.35±11.88). Using an in vitro assay was observed that FRF at 500 µg/mL was able to inhibit bacterial growth. Conclusions: The results show that FRF provided a significant gastroprotective and ulcer healing activity, mainly due to their capacity to enhance mucus secretion

Raman phonon modes of zinc blende InxGa1-xN alloy epitaxial layers

Transverse-optical (TO) and longitudinal-optical (LO) phonons of zinc blende InxGa1-xN (0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.31) layers are observed through first-order micro-Raman scattering experiments. The samples are grown by molecular-beam epitaxy on GaAs (001) substrates, and x-ray diffraction measurements are performed to determine the epilayer alloy composition. Both the TO and LO phonons exhibit a one-mode-type behavior, and their frequencies display a linear dependence on the composition. The Raman data reported here are used to predict the A(1) (TO) and E-1 (TO) phonon frequencies of the hexagonal InxGa1-xN alloy. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. Eschar-associated Spotted Fever Rickettsiosis, Bahia, Brazil

    Get PDF
In Brazil, Brazilian spotted fever was once considered the only tick-borne rickettsial disease. We report eschar-associated rickettsial disease that occurred after a tick bite. The etiologic agent is most related to Rickettsia parkeri, R. africae, and R. sibirica and probably widely distributed from São Paulo to Bahia in the Atlantic Forest

Evidence for phase-separated quantum dots in cubic InGaN layers from resonant Raman scattering

    Get PDF
The emission of light in the blue-green region from cubic InxGa1-xN alloys grown by molecular beam epitaxy is observed at room temperature and 30 K. By using selective resonant Raman spectroscopy (RRS) we demonstrate that the emission;is due to quantum confinement effects taking place in phase-separated In-rich quantum dots formed in the layers. RRS data show that the In content of the dots fluctuates across the volume of the layers. We find that dot size and alloy fluctuation determine the emission wavelengths.84163666366

Tecnologias digitais móveis: reterritorialização dos cotidianos escolares

    Get PDF

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the epidemiological profile of dengue in the State of Tocantins, in order to provide subsidies for its control. METHODOLOGY: A quantitative study was carried out by consulting the database of the Aging Notification of Injury Information System (SINAN) from January 2007 to December 2017. These data were transferred, tabulated and analyzed from the official notification system of the Ministry of Health (MS). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: There were 76,613 cases of dengue in the State, 75,171 cases of classical dengue (98%) and 380 cases of severe dengue, of which 34 were deaths (8%). The cities of Palmas, Araguaína and Gurupi were the main cities with reported cases, adding up the% of cases. Regarding the diagnostic methods, 54,960 cases were confirmed by clinical-epidemiological methods and 26,605 cases by laboratory method. The age group from 20 to 39 years old was highlighted, with 35,176 cases of classical dengue fever and 114 cases of severe dengue. Regarding color, there were 61,921 cases. With respect to women in the gestational period, there were 858 reported cases divided in the three quarters. Among the laboratory tests requested were 4560 positive cases among the serological tests (IgM), Elisa, Viral Isolation and histopathology. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that Tocantins despite the decreases in cases reported throughout the sample, is still an endemic disease with a high transmission chain in cities in high urbanization process.OBJETIVO: Analisar o perfil epidemiológico da dengue no estado do Tocantins, no intuito de fornecer subsídios para o seu controle.
