A General-Purpose Finite-Difference Code for Solving Steady-State Three-Dimensional Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer Problems

    Get PDF
A general purpose FORTRAN code is described for the computations of three-dimensional steady heat transfer and fluid flow in rectangular geometries. The code is designed to handle combined conductionconvection problems within domains comprising of both solid and fluid regions. This is accomplished through the use of the harmonic mean formulation for evaluating interface diffusivities. A control volume formulation is used to discretize the governing equations for the dependent variables in the primitive form. The velocity-pressure coupling is handled by the SIMPLER algorithm. The iterative solution scheme employs the tri-diagonal matrix algorithm of Thomas. A sample example of three-dimensional natural convection in a rectangular enclosure is used to validate the code against existing numerical solutions.Naval Weapons Support Center, Crane, Indianahttp://archive.org/details/generalpurposefi00sathNWSC, CraneNAApproved for public release; distribution is unlimited

Madhumeha is one of the leading lifestyle disorders which is posing a big challenge for the health care fraternity. Before planning the treatment it is very essential to know the Samprapti Ghatakas as well as the principles behind each Yoga which is recommended for treating Madhumeha. An insight into these aspects of Madhumeha Chikitsa has been reviewed in this article

Nodular hidradenoma: A rare tumor in children

    Get PDF
Hidradenomas are the benign cutaneous tumors of sweat gland origin, with the clear cell type constituting the most frequent histologic variety. Usually, they are diagnosed in the elderly population, the peak incidence being the fifth to sixth decade. Very few cases of hidradenoma have been documented in children in their first decade of life. Here, we present a rare and interesting case of a 10-year-old boy who presented with swelling on the anterior aspect of the neck, since birth. The histological findings were consistent with the diagnosis of nodular hidradenoma

COMPARATIVE ANALYTICAL STUDY OF SAJALA AND NIRJALA NARIKEL LAVANA

Advancement being the heart of development any science, Ayurveda has been no exception to this. Various basic formulations have been mentioned in the classical texts i.e. Samhitas and quite a few were added later on, by contemporary Acharyas. Lavana Kalpana is one of them. Lavana Kalpana literally denotes any pharmaceutical formulation comprising Lavana i.e. any type of salt along with other herbal ingredients. Narikel Lavana has been advised under the Rogadhikara of Parinaam Shula. Acharyas have explained two separate methods of preparation of Narikel Lavana: Sajala (retaining the water inside coconut) and Nirjala (without coconut water). Nirjala Narikel Lavana has been prepared by using Mahaputa and Sajala Narikel Lavana in Kukkutaputa. Current study is aimed at preparation, standardization and comparative study of Narikel Lavana as per two different references with the help of sophisticated analytical technique, XRF. Other methods of examination of Ayurvedic drug formulations such as organoleptic evaluation, physico- chemical tests are also employed. The differences between these values and variations in the XRF analysis have been elaborated here. Organoleptic evaluation of both the samples shows no difference, whereas minor variations are observed in the physico- chemical parameters. XRF analysis has clearly indicated the different between the elemental composition of both Sajal and Nirjala Narikel Lavana.

Distortion Analysis of CMOS Based Analog Circuits

The amplifiers are the vital part of the analog circuit designs. The linearity of the CMOS is of most important concern in the design of many analog circuits. There are several aspects regarding nonlinear distortion analysis in analog circuits implemented in CMOS technology. Basically, the investigations visualize the nature of the total harmonic distortion (THD) dependence on the amplitude and frequency of the input signals. In this paper, the basic building blocks of analog integrated circuits such as Common source amplifier with diode connected load and Differential amplifier with current mirror load have been presented for distortion analysis. The MOSFET model used for simulation is BSIM3 SPICE model from 0.13-μm and BSIM4 SPICE model from 22-μm CMOS process technology. HSPICE circuit simulator tool is used for distortion analysis of CMOS circuits. It is evident that the above function gives remarkable insight of the nonlinear behavior of the considered circuits and it is worth considering for further investigations

We Are Colony: Digital VOD Distribution for Independent Film

    Get PDF
Through development and analysis of a slate of film releases on the We Are Colony Video-On-Demand (VOD) platform, alongside contextual qualitative research, this project explores the value of additional materials as part of an innovative, extended digital distribution approach to UK independent film. Project partners, Film London using the We Are Colony platform and researchers from Edge Hill University, wanted to explore how different VOD releases, supported by additional content, can deepen audience engagement, provide filmmakers with a better understanding of their online audience, and demonstrate potential for new digital business models. The research showcases a mix of potential new strategies for audience engagement and rights exploitation, as well as noting current barriers to adoption

Search and rescue at sea aided by hidden flow structures

    Get PDF
Every year hundreds of people die at sea because of vessel and airplane accidents. A key challenge in reducing the number of these fatalities is to make Search and Rescue (SAR) algorithms more efficient. Here we address this challenge by uncovering hidden TRansient Attracting Profiles (TRAPs) in ocean-surface velocity data. Computable from a single velocity-field snapshot, TRAPs act as short-term attractors for all floating objects. In three different ocean field experiments, we show that TRAPs computed from measured as well as modelled velocities attract deployed drifters and manikins emulating people fallen in the water. TRAPs, which remain hidden to prior flow diagnostics, thus provide critical information for hazard responses, such as SAR and oil spill containment, and hence have the potential to save lives and limit environmental disasters
