Nimbus 6 Doppler processing using the Fairbanks calibration platform

    Get PDF
A weighted least squares processor is examined. Research conducted in support of the NASA satellite aided Search and Rescue program is presented. An estimated NIMBUS 6 ephemeris, accurate to 1.5-2.5 km and 0.5-2.5 m/s relative to a reference orbit, is obtained during the three day signal transmission period. This suggests updating the knowledge of the relay satellite ephemeris by one reference beacon is needed during the Search and Rescue demonstration

The QCD phase diagram and statistics friendly distributions

The preliminary STAR data for proton cumulants for central collisions at s=7.7GeV component proton multiplicity distribution. We show that this two-component distribution is statistics friendly in that factorial cumulants of surprisingly high orders may be extracted with a relatively small number of events. As a consequence the two-component model can be tested and verified right now with the presently available STAR data from the first phase of the RHIC beam energy scan

The 'gated-diode' configuration in MOSFET's, a sensitive tool for characterizing hot-carrier degradation

    Get PDF
This paper describes a new measurement technique, the forward gated-diode current characterized at low drain voltages to be applied in MOSFET's for investigating hot-carrier stress-induced defects at high spatial resolution. The generation/recombination current in the drain-to-substrate diode as a function of gate voltage, combined with two-dimensional numerical simulation, provides a sensitive tool for detecting the spatial distribution and density of interface defects. In the case of strong accumulation, additional information is obtained from interband tunneling processes occurring via interface defects. The various mechanisms for generating interface defects and fixed charges at variable stress conditions are discussed, showing that information complementary to that available from other methods is obtaine

Carleman estimates and absence of embedded eigenvalues

Let L be a Schroedinger operator with potential W in L^{(n+1)/2}. We prove that there is no embedded eigenvalue. The main tool is an Lp Carleman type estimate, which builds on delicate dispersive estimates established in a previous paper. The arguments extend to variable coefficient operators with long range potentials and with gradient potentials.Comment: 26 page

A diode device combining lateral field-effect transport and vertical tunneling in a multi-quantum-well heterostructure

    Get PDF
The authors discuss an electronic device with asymmetric contacts to a InGaAs-InP multilayer heterostructure. Current enters via an alloyed ohmic contact into the quantum wells (QWs) and flows laterally along capacitively coupled channels. It leaves via tunneling between the layers and through a forward-biased surface Schottky contact. A step-like I-V dependence is observed and interpreted by a model calculation

Current Induced Excitations in Cu/Co/Cu Single Ferromagnetic Layer Nanopillars

Current-induced magnetic excitations in Cu/Co/Cu single layer nanopillars (~50 nm in diameter) have been studied experimentally as a function of Co layer thickness at low temperatures for large applied fields perpendicular to the layers. For asymmetric junctions current induced excitations are observed at high current densities for only one polarity of the current and are absent at the same current densities in symmetric junctions. These observations confirm recent predictions of spin-transfer torque induced spin wave excitations in single layer junctions with a strong asymmetry in the spin accumulation in the leads.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys.
