Direct Measurement of Piezoelectric Response around Ferroelectric Domain Walls in Crystals with Engineered Domain Configuration
We report the first investigation of the piezoelectric response on a
nanoscale in the poled ferroelectric crystals with engineered configuration of
domains. Piezoresponse force microscopy of tetragonal 0.63PMN-0.37PT
relaxor-based ferroelectric crystals reviled that the d33 piezoelectric
coefficient is significantly reduced within the distance of about 1 um from the
uncharged engineered domain wall. This finding is essential for understanding
the mechanisms of the giant piezoresponse in relaxor-based crystals and for
designing new piezoelectric materials
Dramatic Increases of Soil Microbial Functional Gene Diversity at the Treeline Ecotone of Changbai Mountain.
The elevational and latitudinal diversity patterns of microbial taxa have attracted great attention in the past decade. Recently, the distribution of functional attributes has been in the spotlight. Here, we report a study profiling soil microbial communities along an elevation gradient (500-2200 m) on Changbai Mountain. Using a comprehensive functional gene microarray (GeoChip 5.0), we found that microbial functional gene richness exhibited a dramatic increase at the treeline ecotone, but the bacterial taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing did not exhibit such a similar trend. However, the β-diversity (compositional dissimilarity among sites) pattern for both bacterial taxa and functional genes was similar, showing significant elevational distance-decay patterns which presented increased dissimilarity with elevation. The bacterial taxonomic diversity/structure was strongly influenced by soil pH, while the functional gene diversity/structure was significantly correlated with soil dissolved organic carbon (DOC). This finding highlights that soil DOC may be a good predictor in determining the elevational distribution of microbial functional genes. The finding of significant shifts in functional gene diversity at the treeline ecotone could also provide valuable information for predicting the responses of microbial functions to climate change
A Comparison of the Origin of Idioms in Mandarin and Indonesian
In language, idioms can function as stand-alone semantic units because they contain whole concepts. These concepts, formed from human thought, can be explored to discover cultural elements which served as the basis for idiom creation. If the origins of an idiom are known or recognized, that idiom\u27s meaning can be understood more easily. Idioms are frequently used by language communities in their day-to-day lives. However, the origins of idioms in the Indonesian language has almost never been discussed or researched. This article compares the origins of idioms in Mandarin and in Indonesian. It finds that the origins of idioms in Mandarin and in Indonesian are diverse, but in general fit one of two main types: they may be adapted from foreign languages (most importantly in idioms related to religion), or be created within the society and reproduced from generation to generation. Idioms can be traced to either the written tradition or the oral tradition. Idioms in Mandarin generally originate from the written tradition, whereas idioms in Indonesian tend to originate from orality. This study uses the theory of meaning formation first proposed by Ogden and Richards (1911). The comparative method of data analysis is used here, as the origins of idioms in Mandarin and Indonesian are compared
Penentuan Waktu Tanam Bawang Merah(allium Ascalonicum L) Berdasarkan Neraca Air Lahan Di Kecamatan Petang, Kabupaten Badung
The timing of planting shallots (Allium ascalonicum L). Based on Soil Water Balance Land in districts Petang, order to determine the water balance Land in Districts Petang, knowing Water balance land and crop water needs shallots so that can determine the time of planting shallots right in District Petang. This study uses the average precipitation, humidity, solar radiation, wind speed and temperature. From the average data of climate is then used to calculate potential evapotranspiration (ETo) using CropWat application for windows. ETo of calculation is used to analyze the soil water balance, using the method of Thornthwaite and Mather, (1957). The results showed that potential evapotranspiration in the evening during the year amounted to 1643 mm with actual evapotranspiration (ETA) of 1591 mm. Periods of water surplus land in the evening lasted for seven months in November - in May. Water re-charging period (recharge) to the land which has been experiencing drought occurred in November, the best planting time for the shallots in Petang is December. With increasing water needs in accordance with the increasing age of the plant, which peaked in mid-stage season stage. Thus the plants can utilize the water contained in the soil for the growth of vegetative and generative growth of these plants do not require much water and harvest is expected in February
PSR J1926-0652: A Pulsar with Interesting Emission Properties Discovered at FAST
We describe PSR J1926-0652, a pulsar recently discovered with the
Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). Using sensitive
single-pulse detections from FAST and long-term timing observations from the
Parkes 64-m radio telescope, we probed phenomena on both long and short time
scales. The FAST observations covered a wide frequency range from 270 to 800
MHz, enabling individual pulses to be studied in detail. The pulsar exhibits at
least four profile components, short-term nulling lasting from 4 to 450 pulses,
complex subpulse drifting behaviours and intermittency on scales of tens of
minutes. While the average band spacing P3 is relatively constant across
different bursts and components, significant variations in the separation of
adjacent bands are seen, especially near the beginning and end of a burst. Band
shapes and slopes are quite variable, especially for the trailing components
and for the shorter bursts. We show that for each burst the last detectable
pulse prior to emission ceasing has different properties compared to other
pulses. These complexities pose challenges for the classic carousel-type
models.Comment: 13pages with 12 figure
