Prader-Willi syndrome: are there population differences?
A 15 1/2-year-old black female with features consistent with the Prader-Willi syndrome is reported. This is the second case report of a black individual and the first case of a black female with the Prader-Willi syndrome. There is an apparent paucity of blacks reported with this condition. Whether this difference is a true difference or represents under-reporting is not known. We urge reporting of individuals representing other racial groups with this disorder and suggest population studies to determine the incidence as well as the true population difference in the Prader-Willi syndrome

Development and initial operating characteristics of the 20 megawatt linear plasma accelerator facility
A 20-megawatt linear plasma accelerator facility, a steady flow, Faraday-type plasma accelerator facility for high velocity aerodynamic testing, was constructed, developed, and brought to an operational status. The accelerator has a 63.5-mm-square and 0.5-meter-long channel and utilizes nitrogen-seeded with 2 % mole fraction of cesium vapor. Modification of the original accelerator design characteristics and the improvements necessary to make the arc heater a suitable plasma source are described. The measured accelerator electrode current distribution and the electrode-wall potential distributions are given. The computed and the measured values are in good agreement. Measured pitot pressure indicates that an accelerator exit velocity of 9.2 km/sec, is obtained with 30 of the 36 electrode pairs powered and corresponds to a velocity increase to about 2 1/4 times the computed entrance velocity. The computed stagnation enthalpy at the accelerator exit is 92 MJ/kg, and the mass density corresponds to an altitude of about 58 km. The 92 MJ/kg stagnation enthalpy corresponds to a kinetic energy content at low temperature equivalent to a velocity of 13.6 km/sec
Reply to Comment on "Cosmic rays, carbon dioxide, and climate"
In our analysis [Rahmstorf et al., 2004], we arrived at two main conclusions: the data of Shaviv and Veizer [2003] do not show a significant correlation of cosmic ray flux (CRF) and climate, and the authors' estimate of climate sensitivity to CO2 based on a simple regression analysis is questionable. After careful consideration of Shaviv and Veizer's comment, we want to uphold and reaffirm these conclusions. Concerning the question of correlation, we pointed out that a correlation arose only after several adjustments to the data, including shifting one of the four CRF peaks and stretching the time scale. To calculate statistical significance, we first need to compute the number of independent data points in the CRF and temperature curves being correlated, accounting for their autocorrelation. A standard estimate [Quenouille, 1952] of the number of effective data points is

where N is the total number of data points and r1, r2 are the autocorrelations of the two series. For the curves of Shaviv and Veizer [2003], the result is NEFF = 4.8. This is consistent with the fact that these are smooth curves with four humps, and with the fact that for CRF the position of the four peaks is determined by four spiral arm crossings or four meteorite clusters, respectively; that is, by four independent data points. The number of points that enter the calculation of statistical significance of a linear correlation is (NEFF− 2), since any curves based on only two points show perfect correlation; at least three independent points are needed for a meaningful result
Complex organic molecules in comets C/2012 F6 (Lemmon) and C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy): detection of ethylene glycol and formamide
A spectral survey in the 1 mm wavelength range was undertaken in the
long-period comets C/2012 F6 (Lemmon) and C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) using the 30 m
telescope of the Institut de radioastronomie millim\'etrique (IRAM) in April
and November-December 2013. We report the detection of ethylene glycol
(CHOH) (aGg' conformer) and formamide (NHCHO) in the two comets.
The abundances relative to water of ethylene glycol and formamide are 0.2-0.3%
and 0.02% in the two comets, similar to the values measured in comet C/1995 O1
(Hale-Bopp). We also report the detection of HCOOH and CHCHO in comet
C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy), and a search for other complex species (methyl formate,

Interferometric imaging of the sulfur-bearing molecules H2S, SO and CS in comet C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp)
We present observations of rotational lines of H2S, SO and CS performed in
comet C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp) in March 1997 with the Plateau de Bure
interferometer (IRAM). The observations provide informations on the spatial and
velocity distributions of these molecules. They can be used to constrain their
photodissociation rate and their origin. We use a radiative transfer code which
allows us to compute synthetic line profiles and interferometric maps, to be
compared to the observations. Both single-dish spectra and interferometric
spectral maps show a day/night asymmetry in the outgassing. From the analysis
of the spectral maps, including the astrometry, we show that SO and CS present
in addition a jet-like structure that may be the gaseous counterpart of the
dust high-latitude jet observed in optical images. A CS rotating jet is also
observed. Using the astrometry provided by continuum radio maps obtained in
parallel, we conclude that there is no need to invoke of nongravitational
forces acting on this comet, and provide an updated orbit. The radial extension
of H2S is found to be consistent with direct release from the nucleus. SO
displays an extended radial distribution. Assuming that SO2 is the parent of
SO, the photodissociation rate of SO is measured to be 1.5 E-4 s-1 at 1 AU from
the Sun. This is lower than most laboratory-based estimates and may suggest
that SO is not solely produced by SO2 photolysis. From the observations of
J(2-1) and J(5-4) CS lines, we deduce a CS photodissociation rate of 1 to 5 E-5
s-1. The photodissociation rate of CS2, the likely parent of CS, cannot be
constrained due to insufficient resolution, but our data are consistent with
published values. These observations illustrate the cometary science that will
