    Direct observation of the flux-line vortex glass phase in a type II superconductor

    The order of the vortex state in La_{1.9} Sr_{0.1} CuO_{4} is probed using muon spin rotation and small-angle neutron scattering. A transition from a Bragg glass to a vortex glass is observed, where the latter is composed of disordered vortex lines.     Muons as Local Probes of Three-body Correlations in the Mixed State of Type-II Superconductors

    The vortex glass state formed by magnetic flux lines in a type-II superconductor is shown to possess non-trivial three-body correlations. While such correlations are usually difficult to measure in glassy systems, the magnetic fields associated with the flux vortices allow us to probe these via muon-spin rotation measurements of the local field distribution. We show via numerical simulations and analytic calculations that these observations provide detailed microscopic insight into the local order of the vortex glass and more generally validate a theoretical framework for correlations in glassy systems.Comment: 4+ pages, high-quality figures available on reques

    Finding needles in haystacks: linking scientific names, reference specimens and molecular data for Fungi

    DNA phylogenetic comparisons have shown that morphology-based species recognition often underestimates fungal diversity. Therefore, the need for accurate DNA sequence data, tied to both correct taxonomic names and clearly annotated specimen data, has never been greater. Furthermore, the growing number of molecular ecology and microbiome projects using high-throughput sequencing require fast and effective methods for en masse species assignments. In this article, we focus on selecting and re-annotating a set of marker reference sequences that represent each currently accepted order of Fungi. The particular focus is on sequences from the internal transcribed spacer region in the nuclear ribosomal cistron, derived from type specimens and/or ex-type cultures. Re-annotated and verified sequences were deposited in a curated public database at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), namely the RefSeq Targeted Loci (RTL) database, and will be visible during routine sequence similarity searches with NR_prefixed accession numbers. A set of standards and protocols is proposed to improve the data quality of new sequences, and we suggest how type and other reference sequences can be used to improve identification of Fungi

    A new RP-HPLC method for the determination of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate in pure form and pharmaceutical formulation

    The present study aimed to develop the new method for the estimation and validation of tenofovir in pure form and in pharmaceutical dosage form by RP-HPLC. The chromatogram of tenofovir was developed through column (Hyper ODS2 C18), UV detection at 260 nm at a flow rate of 1.2 ml/min with Methanol and Phosphate buffer (90:10) as mobile phase. The method was validated by various validation parameters such as accuracy, precision, linearity, specificity as per the ICH guidelines. A linearity range and retention time of Tenofovir were found to be 20-110 µg/ml and 2.1 min respectively. The % RSD of the Tenofovir was found to be 0.7. The % recovery was obtained as 99.7% for standard and 96.32% for tablets. This method was simple, accurate, precise and sensitive. Hence, the developed method was employed for the routine analysis of Tenofovir in the pharmaceutical dosage form

    Simultaneous determination of levocetrizine and phenylpropanolamine hydrocholride by RP-HPLC

    The aim of the present study was to develop the simple, selective, rapid, precise and economical reverse phase-high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method for the simultaneous estimation of levocetirizine and phenylpropanolamine HCl in solid dosage forms. The method was carried out on a Phenomenex Luna C18 (25 cm × 4.6 mm i.d., 5 μ) column with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile: 0.5% triethylamine (70:30 v/v, pH 3.0) at a flow rate of 1.2 mL/min. Detection was carried out at 220 nm. The retention time (RT) 1.8 min and 2.6 min for phenylpropanolamine hydrocholride and levocetrizine respectively. The % recovery of standard phenylpropanolamine hydrocholride and levocetrizine was found to be 98.17 to 103.56 and 98.893 to 10.422 respectively. The % recovery of sample phenylpropanolamine hydrocholride and levocetrizine was found to be 101.30 and 100.63 respectively. The validation of the proposed method was also carried out. The proposed method can be used for the estimation of these drugs in combined dosage forms

    Factor Analysis Approach in Understanding Student’s Attitude towards Social Media Usage in Agricultural Higher Education

    The social media concept has received much consideration from higher education since a period of ten years in India. The study was conducted for analysing the usage and effects of social media on agricultural students. The primary data was collected through questionnaire. Simple random sampling was employed, a sample of 126 students in which 100 PGDMA students from ICAR-NAARM and 26 B.Sc. Agricultural students from ANGRAU. The responses were analysed by using factor analysis and the most influenced responses were social media is a part of their everyday activity (0.88), their communication skills were improved because of social media (0.83), They felt that they were part of the social media community (0.87) and they derived satisfaction through networking and communication (0.84). These were the most affected statements from PGDMA students and B.Sc. Agricultural students. Conclusively, social media has enriched the acquaintance of individuals and build cognizance amongst students in all the aspects
