Breakdown of anomalous channeling with ion energy for accurate strain determination in gan-based heterostructures

    Get PDF
The influence of the beam energy on the determination of strain state with ion channeling in GaN-based heterostructures (HSs) is addressed. Experimental results show that anomalous channeling may hinder an accurate analysis due to the steering effects at the HS interface, which are more intense at lower ion energies. The experimental angular scans have been well reproduced by Monte Carlo simulations, correlating the steering effects with the close encounter probability at the interface. Consequently, limitations in the determination of the strain state by ion channeling can be overcome by selecting the adequate beam energy

SysGpr: System of Generation of Pseudo-realistic Synthetic Signals

[EN] Signals obtained from sensors are widely used in different scientific fields. However, the resources to obtain the data are not always available due to structural constraints, physical, economic, environmental, and data collection failures, etc. It is in this scenario that the generation of synthetic data is established. The generation of synthetic data has several benefits, such as, reducing waiting times compared to the long periods required by some sensors to obtain large volumes of samples. In addition, the generated data can be as robust as users need it to be. For this reason, this paper presents a pseudo-realistic synthetic signal generation system for use in the validation of methods and design of experiments. The proposed signal generation method makes use of statistical models and the gradient of the signal to generate new data. The developed system is open for the public, available as a web tool.[ES] Las señales obtenidas desde sensores son ampliamente utilizadas en diferentes campos científicos.

Background Paclitaxel, a widely-used antineoplastic drug, produces a painful peripheral neuropathy that in rodents is associated with peripheral-nerve mitochondrial alterations. The sigma-1 receptor (σ1R) is a ligand-regulated molecular chaperone involved in mitochondrial calcium homeostasis and pain hypersensitivity. This receptor plays a key role in paclitaxel-induced neuropathic pain, but it is not known whether it also modulates mitochondrial abnormalities. In this study, we used a mouse model of paclitaxel-induced neuropathic pain to test the involvement of the σ1R in the mitochondrial abnormalities associated with paclitaxel, by using genetic (σ1R knockout mice) and pharmacological (σ1R antagonist) approaches. Results Paclitaxel administration to wild-type (WT) mice produced cold- and mechanical-allodynia, and an increase in the frequency of swollen and vacuolated mitochondria in myelinated A-fibers, but not in C-fibers, of the saphenous nerve. Behavioral and mitochondrial alterations were marked at 10 days after paclitaxel-administration and had resolved at day 28. In contrast, paclitaxel treatment did not induce allodynia or mitochondrial abnormalities in σ1R knockout mice. Moreover, the prophylactic treatment of WT mice with BD-1063 also prevented the neuropathic pain and mitochondrial abnormalities induced by paclitaxel. Conclusions These results suggest that activation of the σ1R is necessary for development of the sensory nerve mitochondrial damage and neuropathic pain produced by paclitaxel. Therefore, σ1R antagonists might have therapeutic value for the prevention of paclitaxel-induced neuropathy. This study was partially supported by grant P11-CTS-7649 and grant CTS-109 from Junta de Andalucía, FEDER funds, a grant from Esteve, and a grant from the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (NeoGenius Pharma project). Anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects of MKARE® Eggshell Membrane: An in vitro osteoarthritis model and placebo-controlled clinical study

    Get PDF
[EN]MKARE®, a 100% natural ingredient derived from fresh eggshell membrane (ESM), has a rich composition in bioactive compounds like collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. These components are beneficial for managing osteoarthritis (OA) due to their anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties. Highlighting the significance of freshness, our research has shown that the effectiveness of MKARE® is higher than that of other commercial products based on ESM that have been stored for several days at room temperature, losing their bioactive compounds. This study explores the MKARE® anti-inflammatory capacity through an in vitro and clinical analyses, demonstrating its ability to alleviate OA symptoms and improve joint health. This underscores the crucial role of freshness in optimizing the therapeutic benefits.S

Quotient analysis, temperature-salinity plots and time distribution for eggs per stage of development, were employed to study spawning habitat of the sardine off north Spanish Atlantic, Cantabrian waters and south of the Bay of Biscay

Precise measurement of near-barrier He 8 + Pb 208 elastic scattering: Comparison with He 6

et al.Dramatic differences in the elastic scattering of the neutron rich nuclei He6 and He8 are found when new high quality data for the He8+Pb208 system are compared with previously published He6+Pb208 data at the same laboratory frame incident energy. The new He8 data are of the same level of detail as for stable beams. When comparing them with those previously obtained for He6+Pb208 at the same energy, it is possible to determine from the data alone that He6 has a much longer range absorption than He8. However, both nuclei show significant absorption beyond their strong absorption radii. While it has been known for a long time that elastic scattering at energies around the barrier only determines the optical potential over a small distance in radial space, typically ±0.5 fm or so, both the He6 and the He8 imaginary potentials obtained from various optical model fits to these data are the same over a much wider range of ±1.5 fm. ©2016 American Physical SocietyThis work was supported in part by Grant No. FPA2010-22131- C02-01 (FINURA) and Grant No. FPA2013-47327-C2-1-R from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, UNAM-PAPIIT IA101616 (Mexico), Grant No. N202 033637 from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland, and Contract No. EUI2009-04163 (EUROGENESIS) from the European Science Foundation.Peer Reviewe

Scattering of the halo nucleus 11Li and its core 9Li on 208Pb at energies around the Coulomb barrier

The first measurement of the elastic scattering of the halo nucleus 11Li and its core 9Li on 208Pb at energies around the Coulomb barrier is presented. The 11Li reaction showed a large cross section for the breakup channel, even at energies well below the barrier. The analysis of the 11Li + 208Pb scattering data in terms of the continuum-discretized coupled-channel calculations indicates that the effect of the coupling to the breakup channels produces a strong suppression of the elastic cross section at energies above and below the barrier. This effect is mainly due to the strong Coulomb coupling to the dipole states in the low-lying continuum of 11Li
