Fractal index, central charge and fractons
We introduce the notion of fractal index associated with the universal class
of particles or quasiparticles, termed fractons, which obey specific
fractal statistics. A connection between fractons and conformal field
theory(CFT)-quasiparticles is established taking into account the central
charge and the particle-hole duality
, for integer-value of the
statistical parameter. In this way, we derive the Fermi velocity in terms of
the central charge as . The Hausdorff dimension
which labelled the universal classes of particles and the conformal anomaly are
therefore related. Following another route, we also established a connection
between Rogers dilogarithm function, Farey series of rational numbers and the
Hausdorff dimension.Comment: latex, 12 pages, To appear in Mod. Phys. Lett. A (2000
This text has its main theme the philosophical hermenutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer. The main aim is to investigate the possibility of understanding ethics as the ontological foundation of comprehension, given that the Gadamer’s hermeneutics develops itself in the range of practical phylosophy. To make this more evident, we will begin our investigation by presenting some fundamental concepts of philosophical hermeneutics, as well as some of its historical roots. We will analyze the concept of comprehension which, for Gadamer, ceases to be an epistemological problem and becomes an ethical issue. Based on this work we will be able to see that Gadamer relates his hermeneutics to the Greek tradition of ontological thinking by understanding that since the beginning he has recognized that the whole search for knowledge being a natural disposition of man, was originally a moral phenomenon. Therefore, in order to reconquer the original meaning of the hermeneutic phenomenon, its ontological meaning, lost in the methodological deviations of the modern sciences, it retakes the concept of Aristotelian phronesis to serve as a model for the hermeneutic reflexive virtue. It also rescues the Socratic-Platonic dialectic to emphasize the primacy of the question and the importance of dialogue in the process of knowledge. Thus, for Gadamer, hermeneutics is the way of being of the human being who, in seeking to comprehend the world, finds himself faced with the opportunity to comprehend himself. To comprehend is to recognize; it is the attitude of those who know they do not know and want to know and who adopt the opening posture and dialogue with the other. The comprehension because it is originally dialogic, recognizes the other as an essential partner in the search for knowledge, thus revealing its true ontological foundation: ethics
Potentially inappropriate prescription patterns in older adults: a cross-sectional study in Slovenia
Introduction: The population demographic ageing that is expected in Europe is due to the
increase of life expectancy, combined with the decrease of fertility rates. In 2018, 19,41%
of the Slovenian population was over 65 years old, but this share is expected to increase
to 30,6% in 2050. One way to prevent the increasing of public investments is to optimize
resources and to increase the health of citizens so they have lower morbidity and thus,
that they rely less on the public system. The patterns of prescription among the elderly
are critical to determine an efficient and optimized therapy, decreasing the complexity of
the treatment to the older patient, to obtain better results of public health and lower costs
for the financing system. In this study, the patterns of potentially inappropriate
prescriptions were analyzed among older adults and in each way the demographic
characteristics of physicians (gender and age) influence those patterns. Methods: A
Slovenian database with every prescriptions to population equal or older than 65 years
old from 2018, with information regarding the chemical substance prescribed and the
patients’ and physicians’ demographic characteristics, was provided for this study. The
SPSS IBM statistics software was used as a tool of statistical analysis and mean
comparison through the independent t-test over the content of the database. Results were
obtained. The chemical substances were defined as potential inappropriate based on AGS
Beers Criteria 2019 and the European list named as EU(7) PIM list. Discussion: Female
physicians equal or above 65 years old, were the ones who prescribed more potentially
inappropriate medications. Most of the chemical groups prevalence of prescription were
influenced by age and gender. Conclusion: There is the need to include older adults in
clinical trials to have more evidence of the medication that are inappropriate for them,
and the need to establish therapy guidelines for patients with multimorbidity so the
polypharmacy can be prevented and the resources optimized.Com o patrocínio da Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljan
The Gamification Octalysis Framework within the Primary English Teaching Process: the Quest for a Transformative Classroom
The “Kwesukasukela” project, which focuses on African oral tradition storytelling intermingled with the Ubuntu philosophy (Varty, 2013), has as its main aim to stimulate collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity, within primary school settings. In fact, through an experiential communicative approach (Fernández-Corbacho, 2014), South African storytelling can become a gamified experience and integrated into English classroom practices as a means of transformation and stimulation of social cohesion and sustainable development (Battiste, 2005).The aim of this study is to reflect upon Chou’s (2016) Octalysis framework and how it can effectively be applied in Primary English Teaching contexts. The implementation of gamification designs and practices within this type of framework allowed us to understand how we can implement effective approaches towards a transformative classroom. An ethnographic methodological approach, with triangulation of data collection tools (questionnaires, self-assessment worksheets and project work), was resorted. Gamified practices, which deal with South African cultural and linguistic varieties (Nomlomo & Zilungile, 2016) and 21st Century Learning skills, were analized (Cruz & Orange, 2016).The project’s main results show that the gamification approach can foster the development of transformative skills.

Finding COCO: remembering the meaning of death and life, in a song
Day after day we are consumed by technologies, media and information, invading our reality and influencing our social life.Though we may be conscious of this invasion, we allow it top revail in our day life. We do not just consent this situation but even balance our expectations to justify such abusive incursion. So, how do we justify this permission? What do we expect to see or get? We aim to contribute to the understanding of what young adults think and expect from animation films. In the present study,we used the film 'Coco' (2017), produced by Pixar Animation Studios, as a stimulus to the participants - young adults (N=66),men and women (with an average age of 32 years). Thus, we analyzed the participants' answers to an online survey, focused in what they consider to be the most important concepts, thoughts, emotions and feelings highlighted by the film 'Coco'. The obtained data was categorized, classified and interpreted. Results suggest that animation films may have a major importance in the people's lives, creating virtual worlds close to their social world, and conveying representations of death and life, in the shape of almost real messages, with the help of technology.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
