The aim of this study was to determine if there is a higher risk of premature birth among pregnant teenagers (10-19 years) when compared to adults (≥ 20 years) and if the socioeconomic/demographic status plays an important role in pregnancy outcomes. To do so we chose to write an integrative review of the literature (IRL) and used the P[I]COD method to create our investigation question and to guide our literary research. The analyzed data showed that there is a connection between teenage pregnancy and premature birth and that the socioeconomic/demographic, asides with biological development, are determinant factors in pregnancy outcomes

Daí a relevância desses estudos. Over the years various studies have been conducted in order to investigate the impact and contribution of certain variables in the development of eating psychopathology, particularly among in the adolescent population. A wide range of studies associate shame and body image dissatisfaction with eating psychopathology, but few are those who use experiential avoidance, cognitive fusion and fear of compassion. Hence the relevance of these studies. In order to investigate the effect of body image dissatisfaction in eating psychopathology mediated by body shame, experiential avoidance and cognitive fusion, model was examined through path analyses. On a second point, a mediation analysis was performed to study the role of fear of self-compassion on the relationship between body image dissatisfaction and body shame. The present studies were conducted in a sample of 437 young adolescent girls. The findings suggested that body dissatisfaction increases eating psychopathology partially through increased levels of body shame, and through increased levels of cognitive fusion and experiential avoidance. Body shame was a significant predictor of eating psychopathology. Body shame arises as a result of increased body dissatisfaction and higher levels of fear of self-compassion

Looking for the Core of a Knowledge-based Sea Cluster: A Social Network Analysis in a Maritime Region

For more than two decades cluster policies have emerged as a central focus for decision-makers trying to instigate territorial development. The benefits, especially in terms of collective learning, knowledge sharing and other types of agglomeration economies and spill-over effects, are well stressed in the regional science literature. Today the relevance of maritime activities and marine resources to economic development is acknowledged. For several European countries, the Atlantic Ocean is part of their common history, identity and potential for developing advanced economic niches of excellence. There is no surprise that several regions are trying to implement their development strategies based on a broad Sea Cluster notion that encompasses a diversity of economic activities such as fisheries and aquaculture, coastal tourism, marine transports and activities based on marine sciences and maritime technologies. Based on the results of a trans-regional evaluation performed for the Atlantic Area under project KIMERAA, this paper evaluates the consolidation of the Sea Cluster in the Algarve, a Portuguese region internationally known by its coastal tourism. The region has also been experiencing a growing capacity in economic activities linked to marine sciences. This regional cluster did not emerge spontaneously and there are several initiatives to promote it. Interviews to regional actors showed light on two important issues. i) Which organization should be the main mediator to bridge science to market? ii) Who is the actor that is in a better position to assume a pivotal role in the formal consolidation of the cluster? Using social network analysis the main knowledge transfer mediator and the central actors are identified. Their roles and specific policy implications are underlined.

Peptidoglycan synthesis and penicillin resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae

    Get PDF
"Resistance to penicillin in Streptococcus pneumoniae involves remodelling of penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), enzymes involved in the last stages of peptidoglycan (PGN) synthesis, which reduce the affinity of these targets to the antibiotic. However, the peptidoglycan composition has an important role in the expression of resistance to this antibiotic. The murMN operon in particular seems to play a critical role, since deletion lead to the complete abolishment of penicillin resistance, even in the presence of the remodelled PBPs. (...)

Today the importance of networks between actors and institutions is growing. There are several benefits that these networks can create, from the greater dissemination of information through sharing of resources to access to specialized assets. Networks facilitate the sharing of best-practice and inter-organizational learning. In the particular case of scientific research, networks have a very important role. The case of the universities is paradigmatic because they benefit enormously from exchanges that happen with other elements with which establish more sustainable cooperation, which also strengthens the role of promoting regional development. This text aims to highlight the network relations of a peripheral university in Portugal - the University of the Algarve, and how these networks may be restrictions or potentialities to development of the university itself and the territory in which it is inserted.Network, Partnership, Science, Research, Innovation

Social reincorporation of FARC-EP's former combatants: The case of the Colombian Peace Agreement 2016

Four years after the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement in Colombia, this dissertation evaluates the development of the measures related to the social reincorporation of the FARC-EP into the community. The social reincorporation of former combatants was considered, since the beginning of the debates on the Agreement, as one of the key factors for the success and consolidation of the peace process. The study uses a triangulation method that includes document analysis and interviews, stemming from fieldwork in Colombia, supported by scientific articles and meetings, as well as nonparticipant observation in conferences. This work analyses the perceptions of the actors involved and the guerrilla who seeks to reincorporate into a social life within a legal framework. Although the existing literature is critical about the degree of success, this work shows that social reincorporation, in general, is being achieved, with some exceptions in which the Agreement likely will have to be adapted to the current needs and urgencies.

language hybridity and the pitfalls of paratext

This article looks at the Portuguese translation of Patricia Grace’s Potiki, and more specifically at the paratextual elements that it contains, as a response to the linguistic hybridity of its source text. Potiki incorporates Māori elements in its mostly English-language text in a way that is common in Māori fiction writing these days, but which was groundbreaking at the time of its release, in 1986. The Portuguese translation’s decision to include paratextual information clarifying the meaning of words and expressions, which is absent from English-language publications, can be considered controversial and, moreover, runs counter to contemporary approaches to hybrid linguistic features in fictional texts.publishersversionpublishe

ABSTRACT: The involvement of families in the learning process of children is a key factor for their development. The learning becomes more meaningful for the children when they feel that their families are also involved in his 'work room'. Thus, throughout the year, we seek to create various partnership situations and contact with the children's family, making them partners and an integral part of the room. Families, community and educational team formed throughout the year the pillars that supported the learning foundations of children, giving them the possibility to meet their needs and their interests
