Quantum Field Theory of Open Spin Networks and New Spin Foam Models
We describe how a spin-foam state sum model can be reformulated as a quantum
field theory of spin networks, such that the Feynman diagrams of that field
theory are the spin-foam amplitudes. In the case of open spin networks, we
obtain a new type of state-sum models, which we call the matter spin foam
models. In this type of state-sum models, one labels both the faces and the
edges of the dual two-complex for a manifold triangulation with the simple
objects from a tensor category. In the case of Lie groups, such a model
corresponds to a quantization of a theory whose fields are the principal bundle
connection and the sections of the associated vector bundles. We briefly
discuss the relevance of the matter spin foam models for quantum gravity and

The narrative coherence of witness transcripts in children on the autism spectrum
Background and Aims. Autistic children often recall fewer details about witnessed events than typically developing children (of comparable age and ability), although the information they recall is generally no less accurate. Previous research has not examined the narrative coherence of such accounts, despite higher quality narratives potentially being perceived more favourably by criminal justice professionals and juries. This study compared the narrative coherence of witness transcripts produced by autistic and typically developing (TD) children (ages 6-11 years, IQs 70+).
Methods and Procedures. Secondary analysis was carried out on interview transcripts from a subset of 104 participants (autism=52, TD=52) who had taken part in a larger study of eyewitness skills in autistic and TD children. Groups were matched on chronological age, IQ and receptive language ability. Coding frameworks were adopted from existing narrative research, featuring elements of ‘story grammar’.
Outcomes and Results. Whilst fewer event details were reported by autistic children, there were no group differences in narrative coherence (number and diversity of ‘story grammar’ elements used), narrative length or semantic diversity.
Conclusions and Implications. These findings suggest that the narrative coherence of autistic children’s witness accounts is equivalent to TD peers of comparable age and ability
Spin Foam Models of Matter Coupled to Gravity
We construct a class of spin foam models describing matter coupled to
gravity, such that the gravitational sector is described by the unitary
irreducible representations of the appropriate symmetry group, while the matter
sector is described by the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of
that group. The corresponding spin foam amplitudes in the four-dimensional
gravity case are expressed in terms of the spin network amplitudes for
pentagrams with additional external and internal matter edges. We also give a
quantum field theory formulation of the model, where the matter degrees of
freedom are described by spin network fields carrying the indices from the
appropriate group representation. In the non-topological Lorentzian gravity
case, we argue that the matter representations should be appropriate SO(3) or
SO(2) representations contained in a given Lorentz matter representation,
depending on whether one wants to describe a massive or a massless matter
field. The corresponding spin network amplitudes are given as multiple

Selecting Metal Alloy Electric Contact Materials for MEMS Switches
This paper presents a method for selecting metal alloys as the electric contact materials for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) metal contact switches. This procedure consists of reviewing macro-switch lessons learned, utilizing equilibrium binary alloy phase diagrams, obtaining thin film material properties and, based on a suitable model, predicting contact resistance performance. After determining a candidate alloy material, MEMS switches were designed, fabricated and tested to validate the alloy selection methodology. Minimum average contact resistance values of 1.17 and 1.87 Ω were measured for micro-switches with gold (Au) and gold–platinum (Au–(6.3%)Pt) alloy electric contacts, respectively. In addition, \u27hot-switched\u27 life cycle test results of 1.02 × 108 and 2.70 × 108 cycles were collected for micro-switches with Au and Au–(6.3%)Pt contacts, respectively. These results indicate increased wear with a small increase in contact resistance for MEMS switches with metal alloy electric contacts
"Our Normal Is Different": Autistic Adults' Experiences of the Family Courts
This article reports the findings of a small-scale qualitative study exploring the experiences of autistic adults who have had experience of the family justice system. While participants related some positive elements to their experiences, in particular with regard to the willingness of professionals to try to learn more about their clients’ needs, the overall picture showed significant concerns. The reports given showed significant misunderstandings about autism, and a system which struggled to make appropriate adjustments which would allow autistic court users to have access to justice on an equivalent basis to non-autistic litigants. This situation stands in contrast to the position regarding other disabilities in the Family Justice System, but also to the relatively greater level of provision for autistic people within the Criminal Justice System. Based on participants’ experiences and existing good practice in other areas, we make recommendations that could be adopted by the Family Court and practitioners
Micro-Switches with Sputtered Au, AuPd, Au-on-AuPt, and AuPtCu Alloy Electric Contacts
This work is the first to report on a new analytic model for predicting micro-contact resistance and the design, fabrication, and testing of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) metal contact switches with sputtered bi-metallic (i.e. gold (Au)-on-Au-platinum (Pt), (Au-on-Au-(6%)Pt)), binary alloy (i.e. Au-palladium (Pd), (Au-(2%)Pd)), and tertiary alloy (i.e. Au-Pt-copper (Cu), (Au-(5%)Pt-(0.5%)Cu)) electric contacts. The micro-switches with bi-metallic and binary alloy contacts resulted in contact resistance between 1-2 /spl Omega/ and, when compared to micro-switches with sputtered Au electric contacts, exhibited a 3.3 and 2.6 times increase in switching lifetime, respectively. The tertiary alloy exhibited a 6.5 times increase in switch lifetime with contact resistance ranging from 0.2-1.8 /spl Omega/
4-Dimensional BF Theory as a Topological Quantum Field Theory
Starting from a Lie group G whose Lie algebra is equipped with an invariant
nondegenerate symmetric bilinear form, we show that 4-dimensional BF theory
with cosmological term gives rise to a TQFT satisfying a generalization of
Atiyah's axioms to manifolds equipped with principal G-bundle. The case G =
GL(4,R) is especially interesting because every 4-manifold is then naturally
equipped with a principal G-bundle, namely its frame bundle. In this case, the
partition function of a compact oriented 4-manifold is the exponential of its
signature, and the resulting TQFT is isomorphic to that constructed by Crane
and Yetter using a state sum model, or by Broda using a surgery presentation of

Cosmological Constant in LQG Vertex Amplitude
A new q-deformation of the Euclidean EPRL/FK vertex amplitude is proposed by
using the evaluation of the Vassiliev invariant associated with a 4-simplex
graph (related to two copies of quantum SU(2) group at different roots of
unity) embedded in a 3-sphere. We show that the large-j asymptotics of the
q-deformed vertex amplitude gives the Regge action with a cosmological
constant. In the end we also discuss its relation with a Chern-Simons theory on

Governance gaps in eradicating forced labor: from global to domestic supply chains
A growing body of scholarship analyzes the emergence and resilience of forced labor in developing countries within global value chains (GVCs). However, little is known about how forced labor arises within domestic supply chains concentrated within national borders, producing products for domestic consumption. We conduct one of the first studies of forced labor in domestic supply chains, through a cross-industry comparison of the regulatory gaps surrounding forced labor in the United Kingdom. We find that understanding the dynamics of forced labor in domestic supply chains requires us to conceptually modify the GVC framework to understand similarities and differences across these contexts. We conclude that addressing the governance gaps that surround forced labor will require scholars and policymakers to carefully refine their thinking about how we might design operative governance that effectively engages with local variation
