    O olhar sobre o paralelismo Cinema-Arquitectura, considera-se um ponto fulcral no entendimento da evolução dos meios de comunicação das sociedades contemporâneas, e isso é relevante pelo facto de haver hoje uma inveterada globalização na cultura das mesmas, que surge destacadamente com a era digital. O surgimento do Cinema foi um dos marcos históricos mais importantes no desenvolvimento destes meios de comunicação e um esplendoroso e destacado meio no progresso da propagação de ideologias políticas e socioculturais. A Arquitectura sendo sem dúvida uma das artes mais importantes na responsabilidade da criação dos espaços, da sua organização e na complementação da cultura dos indivíduos, viu-se importunada pela sétima arte, tanto que se rendeu e cedeu os seus mecanismos para que esta os explorasse ainda quando tinha pouca autonomia. Pela mútua exploração que ambas as artes sofreram, por si conscientes, o documento procura na complexidade da interligação de conceitos, de olhares sobre o mundo, de criação e crítica das suas obras, expor um pouco da importância que a ficção, como dado adquirido desde que os seres humanos nascem, tem, perante um mundo coeso a uma evolução exponencial. A exploração do campo da realidade virtual, que muitas vezes, é desacreditado por ser dado simplesmente como a indagação no irreal, sem qualquer fundamento em relação às exigências da vida do Homem, mas que a verdade é que aos poucos deixa, discretamente, o seu território meramente superficial nas actividades quotidianas do mesmo, e enraíza-se nas bases da sobrevivência da nossa espécie. As problemáticas implicadas pelo cruzamento do espaço virtual com o espaço real, tem provocado no último século, uma metamorfose no comportamento do Homem, através da capacidade mais eficaz que certos mecanismos têm de saciar a procura do seu imaginário. Se a ficção não passa de uma mera irrealidade, o certo é que o Homem, vaidoso de si como ser racional, acredita e procura insistentemente encontrar nela, o fundamento essencial para a sua felicidade, o seu preenchimento interior, atribuindo-lhe o valor da razão da sua existência.The look on Cinema-Architecture parallelism is considered a key point in the understanding of the evolution of the media in contemporary societies, and this is relevant by the fact that there is now an inveterate culture of globalization in the same, which appears outstandingly with the digital age. The emergence of Cinema was one of the most important historical marks in the development of these means of communication and a splendid and highlighted path to the progress of spreading political and sociocultural ideologies. The architecture being no doubt one of the most important arts on the responsibility of creating spaces, their organization and in the complementing culture of individuals, was harassed by the seventh art, so much which surrendered and gave their mechanisms to her exploit even when she had still little autonomy. By the mutual exploitation that both arts have suffered ,themselves aware , the document searches in the complexity of interconnected concepts, of looks upon the world, creation and criticism of his works, expose a little of the relevance that fiction, as a acquired truth since that human beings are born, has, facing a world cohesive to an exponential evolution. The exploration of the field of virtual reality, which is often discredited for being given simply as the question in the unreal, without any foundation in respect to the requirements of human life, but the truth is that gradually ceases, unnoticed, its territory merely superficial in the daily activities of the same, and roots in the foundations of the survival of our species. The issues implicated by the intersection of the virtual space with real space, has caused in the last century, a metamorphosis in the behavior of man, through the capacity more effective that certain mechanisms have to satisfy the demand of its imagery. If fiction is nothing but a mere unreality, the truth is that the Man, vain of himself as a rational being, believes and seeks insistently in finding on it, the essential foundation for his happiness, his inner fulfillment, giving it the value of reason for its existence

    Parametric Numerical Study of the Airflow and Thermal Performance in a Real Data Center for Improving Sustainability

    In recent years, reducing energy consumption has been relentlessly pursued by researchers and policy makers with the purpose of achieving a more sustainable future. The demand for data storage in data centers has been steadily increasing, leading to an increase in size and therefore to consume more energy. Consequently, the reduction of the energy consumption of data center rooms is required and it is with this perspective that this paper is proposed. By using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), it is possible to model a three-dimensional model of the heat transfer and air flow in data centers, which allows forecasting the air speed and temperature range under diverse conditions of operation. In this paper, a CFD study of the thermal performance and airflow in a real data center processing room with 208 racks under di erent thermal loads and airflow velocities is proposed. The physical-mathematical model relies on the equations of mass, momentum and energy conservation. The fluid in this study is air and it is modeled as an ideal gas with constant properties. The model of the e ect of turbulence is made by employing a k–" standard model. The results indicate that it is possible to reduce the thermal load of the server racks by improving the thermal performance and airflow of the data center room, without a ecting the correct operation of the server racks located in the sensible regions of the room.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Parametric study by means of 3D CFD to improve the airflow pattern and temperature distribution in data center rooms

    The processing efficacy and energy efficiency of data centers (DC) is directly related with the cooling performance of the air-conditioning systems. The cooling effectiveness depends on airflow pattern and temperature distribution. This paper presents the parametric study of three-dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models to improve these technical characteristics. In this case study the most suitable thermal load, as deemed by the organization, of the heat flow boundary condition is simulated and studied for maximum and minimum airflow. The analysis of the numerical results provides a prediction of the thermal performance, i.e., the lower values and spatial gradients (hot spots) of air temperature and velocity while maintaining the computational processing requirements.     Estado e sociedade na construção de capacidades para fortalecer práticas de governança territorial

    This research assumes that processes of territorial articulation, in order to achieve the desired territorial future, require democratic, horizontal, and collaborative practices of territorial governance, involving state agents and representatives from the social, productive-business and academic sectors. Highly complex environments together with the current digital transformation have significantly changed the agenda across territories. These issues have led to questioning the competencies and capabilities of the territorial actors with regard to their performances in the processes of territorial articulation. Against this backdrop, the notion has been ratified that this systemic complexity is assimilated through a methodological, multi-referential hybridism, which includes processes of co-production and action research. The objective of this article is to produce theoretical and methodological contributions in order to address the challenges posed to the state and society in building capabilities for practices of territorial governance. The text has been structured as a theoretical essay referenced in Latin American academic production regarding the subject.Parte-se do entendimento de que processos de articulação territorial, com vistas à prospecção do futuro desejado territorialmente, exigem práticas de governança colaborativa, horizontal e democrática, envolvendo agentes estatais e representações dos setores sociais, produtivo-empresarial e universitários. Ambientes de alta complexidade, aliados à transformação digital contemporânea, alteraram significativamente a agenda dos territórios, permitindo questionar as competências e capacidades dos atores territoriais para atuar em processos de articulação territorial. Isso ratifica a visão de que essa complexidade sistêmica seja assimilada por intermédio de um hibridismo metodológico, multirreferencial, que contemple processos de coprodução e pesquisa-ação. O objetivo deste artigo é gerar aportes teórico-metodológicos para abordar os desafios postos ao Estado e à sociedade na construção de capacidades para as práticas de governança territorial.     Successful Treatment and Management of Canine Ehrlichiosis-Leishmaniosis-Heartworm Comorbidity

     Background: Canine vector borne diseases (CVBD) are common in tropical countries where the climate favors arthropods abundance. Comorbidity with one or more CVBD are reported as clinical complication and worsen prognostic. Canine visceral leishmaniosis (CanL) is an endemic zoonotic disease in Brazil caused by Leishmania infantum, with several restrictions to canine treatment and suggestion of reservoirs euthanasia for disease control. Heart worm (HW) is a helminthic disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis infection in dogs. It is a chronic heart disease, which can lead to death by congestive heart failure. Canine ehrlichiosis (CE) is caused by Ehrlichia canis bacterial infection with a zoonotic potential and fatal to dogs in acute and chronic presentations. Exposed the above, this study aims to describe a successful treatment and management of a dog with CanL, CE, and HW comorbidity. Case: A 3-year-old male uncastrated black Labrador dog, weighing 35 kg, was admitted to the veterinary clinic due to immunochromatographic CanL positive test performed by municipal zoonosis control center active surveillance in August 2014. Clinical exam showed a mild shedding, intermittent eye white/yellow discharge and popliteal lymph nodes enlargement. After positive for CanL, veterinary requested more laboratorial exams. IFAT and ELISA were positive for CanL, blood smear showed presence of microfilaria, and bone marrow cytology showed Ehrlichia spp. morulae and microfilaria. Initial treatment prescribed was oral doxycycline, omeprazole, ranitidine, and domperidone for 30 days, and allopurinol and ivermectin until further recommendation. Additionally, repellent collar, repellent spray and vitamin supplement was indicated. After first month, marbofloxacin for 30 days and three doses of immune stimulant protocol were administrated. After three months of treatment, dog still positive for heartworm, ehrlichiosis, and CanL. Doxycycline protocol was repeated. Dog became consistently negative for all pathogens one year later with persistent thrombocytopenia but without clinical signs, ergo allopurinol and ivermectin were discontinued. After four years of follow up, the animal had an acute pancreatitis and died, with unremarkable total blood count and negative for all pathogens. Discussion: CVBD coinfections are commonly reported as worsen prognostic in endemic regions. The pathogens reported here share a host immunomodulation competence. L. infantum and Ehrlichia spp.downregulates Th1 response, whereas D. immitis increase as Th2 profile. The therapeutic protocol was iniciated by staging CanL. Since the patient had clinical signs, allopurinol was prescribed as a well-established drug for CanL. Marbofloxacin was added due to its high safety drug in clinical improvement of infected dogs with and without renal disease and in vitro effectiveness against L. infantum. Domperidone was used to promote Th1 cytokine profile as INF-γ, IL-2, IL-12, and TNF-α. We used an immunostimulant protocol to favor polarization to the Th1 profile comprised by 30 days of domperidone protocol followed by a vaccine and an immunomodulator. Doxycycline was used successfully for Ehrlichia spp. and HE clearance after two treatment courses and one year of ivermectin every 15 days. The animal presented intermittent coughing episodes on the first treatment course, but no medical intervention was needed besides exercise restriction. Our report shows the successful management of one dog with CanL, CE and HE comorbidity.     Frequency domain analysis for detecting pipeline leaks

    The original publication can be found at http://scitation.aip.org/hyoThis paper introduces leak detection methods that involve the injection of a fluid transient into the pipeline, with the resultant transient trace analyzed in the frequency domain. Two methods of leak detection using the frequency response of the pipeline are proposed. The inverse resonance method involves matching the modeled frequency responses to those observed to determine the leak parameters. The peak-sequencing method determines the region in which the leak is located by comparing the relative sizes between peaks in the frequency response diagram. It was found that a unique pattern was induced on the peaks of the frequency response for each specific location of the leak within the pipeline. The leak location can be determined by matching the observed pattern to patterns generated numerically within a lookup table. The procedure for extracting the linear frequency response diagram, including the optimum measurement position, the effect of unsteady friction, and the way in which the technique can be extended into pipeline networks, are also discussed within the paper.Pedro J.     International conference on the healthy effect of virgin olive oil

    Ageing represents a great concern in developed countries because the number of people involved and the pathologies related with it, like atherosclerosis, morbus Parkinson, Alzheime's disease, vascular dementia, cognitive decline, diabetes and cancer. Epidemiological studies suggest that a Mediterranean diet (which is rich in virgin olive oil) decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease. The Mediterranean diet, rich in virgin olive oil, improves the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as the lipoprotein profile, blood pressure, glucose metabolism and antithrombotic profile. Endothelial function, inflammation and oxidative stress are also positively modulated. Some of these effects are attributed to minor components of virgin olive oil. Therefore, the definition of the Mediterranean diet should include virgin olive oil. Different observational studies conducted in humans have shown that the intake of monounsaturated fat may be protective against age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Microconstituents from virgin olive oil are bioavailable in humans and have shown antioxidant properties and capacity to improve endothelial function. Furthermore they are also able to modify the haemostasis, showing antithrombotic properties. In countries where the populations fulfilled a typical Mediterranean diet, such as Spain, Greece and Italy, where virgin olive oil is the principal source of fat, cancer incidence rates are lower than in northern European countries. The protective effect of virgin olive oil can be most important in the first decades of life, which suggests that the dietetic benefit of virgin olive oil intake should be initiated before puberty, and maintained through life. The more recent studies consistently support that the Mediterranean diet, based in virgin olive oil, is compatible with a healthier ageing and increased longevity. However, despite the significant advances of the recent years, the final proof about the specific mechanisms and contributing role of the different components of virgin olive oil to its beneficial effects requires further investigations. © 2005 Blackwell Publishing Ltd

    Discrete blockage detection in pipelines using the frequency response diagram: Numerical study

    © 2008 American Society of Civil EngineersThis paper proposes the use of fluid transients as a noninvasive technique for locating blockages in transmission pipelines. By extracting the behavior of the system in the form of a frequency response diagram, discrete blockages within the pipeline were shown to induce an oscillatory pattern on the peaks of this response diagram. This pattern can be related to the location and size of the blockage. A simple analytical expression that can be used to detect, locate, and size discrete blockages is presented, and is shown able to cater for multiple blockages existing simultaneously within the system. The structure of the expression suggests that the proposed technique can be extended to situations where system parameters may not be known to a high accuracy and also to more complex network scenarios, although future studies may be required to verify these possibilities.Pedro J.     Leak location in pipelines using the impulse response function

    Current transient-based leak detection methods for pipeline systems often rely on a good understanding of the system—including unsteady friction, pipe roughness, precise geometry and micro considerations such as minor offtakes—in the absence of leaks. Such knowledge constitutes a very high hurdle and, even if known, may be impossible to include in the mathematical equations governing system behavior. An alternative is to test the leak-free system to find precise behavior, obviously a problem if the system is not known to be free of leaks. The leak-free response can be used as a benchmark to compare with behavior of the leaking system. As an alternative, this paper uses the impulse response function (IRF) as a means of leak detection. The IRF provides a unique a relationship between an injected transient event and a measured pressure response from a pipeline. This relationship is based on the physical characteristics of the system and is useful in determining its integrity. Transient responses of completely different shapes can be directly compared using the IRF. The IRF refines all system reflections to sharp pulses, thus promoting greater accuracy in leak location, and allowing leak reflections to be detected without a leak-free benchmark, even when complex signals such as pseudo-random binary signals are injected into the system. Additionally, the IRF approach can be used to improve existing leak detection methods. In experimental tests at the University of Adelaide the IRF approach was able to detect and locate leaks accurately.Pedro J. Lee, John P. Vitkovsky, Martin F. Lambert, Angus R.     Detailed stratified GWAS analysis for severe COVID-19 in four European populations

    Given the highly variable clinical phenotype of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a deeper analysis of the host genetic contribution to severe COVID-19 is important to improve our understanding of underlying disease mechanisms. Here, we describe an extended genome-wide association meta-analysis of a well-characterized cohort of 3255 COVID-19 patients with respiratory failure and 12 488 population controls from Italy, Spain, Norway and Germany/Austria, including stratified analyses based on age, sex and disease severity, as well as targeted analyses of chromosome Y haplotypes, the human leukocyte antigen region and the SARS-CoV-2 peptidome. By inversion imputation, we traced a reported association at 17q21.31 to a ~0.9-Mb inversion polymorphism that creates two highly differentiated haplotypes and characterized the potential effects of the inversion in detail. Our data, together with the 5th release of summary statistics from the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative including non-Caucasian individuals, also identified a new locus at 19q13.33, including NAPSA, a gene which is expressed primarily in alveolar cells responsible for gas exchange in the lung.S.E.H. and C.A.S. partially supported genotyping through a philanthropic donation.
