Wearable devices for health remote monitor system

    Get PDF
It is feasible to see how communication and information technology have advanced at a rapid pace in today’s world. The introduction of wearable technology is one aspect contributing to this progress and has the potential to be an innovative solution to healthcare challenges since it may be utilized for illness prevention and maintenance, such as physical monitoring, as well as patient management. In order to solve some of the healthcare challenges, this paper proposes the development of an intelligent health monitoring system with alerts and continuous monitoring using wearable devices capable of collecting biometric data on human health. The concept was then proven by the development of a prototype using sensors connected to a micro-controller which transmits its information via MQTT to a Node-RED powered dashboard that handles the health metrics monitoring. The designed prototype has proven satisfactory to provide evidences that support the developed research questions.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Entropy production and Kullback-Leibler divergence between stationary trajectories of discrete systems

The irreversibility of a stationary time series can be quantified using the Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD) between the probability to observe the series and the probability to observe the time-reversed series. Moreover, this KLD is a tool to estimate entropy production from stationary trajectories since it gives a lower bound to the entropy production of the physical process generating the series. In this paper we introduce analytical and numerical techniques to estimate the KLD between time series generated by several stochastic dynamics with a finite number of states. We examine the accuracy of our estimators for a specific example, a discrete flashing ratchet, and investigate how close is the KLD to the entropy production depending on the number of degrees of freedom of the system that are sampled in the trajectories.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

Exact solution for a fermion in the background of a scalar inversely linear potential

The problem of a fermion subject to a general scalar potential in a two-dimensional world is mapped into a Sturm-Liouville problem for nonzero eigenenergies. The searching for possible bounded solutions is done in the circumstance of power-law potentials. The normalizable zero-eigenmode solutions are also searched. For the specific case of an inversely linear potential, which gives rise to an effective Kratzer potential, exact bounded solutions are found in closed form. The behaviour of the upper and lower components of the Dirac spinor is discussed in detail and some unusual results are revealed.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure

The colored Jones function is q-holonomic

A function of several variables is called holonomic if, roughly speaking, it is determined from finitely many of its values via finitely many linear recursion relations with polynomial coefficients. Zeilberger was the first to notice that the abstract notion of holonomicity can be applied to verify, in a systematic and computerized way, combinatorial identities among special functions. Using a general state sum definition of the colored Jones function of a link in 3-space, we prove from first principles that the colored Jones function is a multisum of a q-proper-hypergeometric function, and thus it is q-holonomic. We demonstrate our results by computer calculations.Comment: Published by Geometry and Topology at http://www.maths.warwick.ac.uk/gt/GTVol9/paper29.abs.htm

Realizing Discontinuous Wave Functions with Renormalized Short-Range Potentials

It is shown that a potential consisting of three Dirac's delta functions on the line with disappearing distances can give rise to the discontinuity in wave functions with the proper renormalization of the delta function strength. This can be used as a building block, along with the usual Dirac's delta, to construct the most general three-parameter family of point interactions, which allow both discontinuity and asymmetry of the wave function, as the zero-size limit of self-adjoint local operators in one-dimensional quantum mechanics. Experimental realization of the Neumann boundary is discussed.
