Managing Perceptions Through Process Visibility to Improve Online Customer Outcomes

Although electronic commerce technology often reduces overall costs, it also creates a discontinuity in the order fulfillment segment of the buying process: the fulfillment process becomes a "black box." This discontinuity means that the customer does not have complete information of the purchase affecting customer perceptions of the transaction. Information technology provides a variety of ways for firms to make this process more visible. Providing information about the fulfillment process is expected to increase perceived justice by reducing customer anxiety, enhancing the fairness of the transaction; and ultimately improving customer outcomes, mainly customer satisfaction, service satisfaction, word of mouth and repurchase intention. The objective of this study is to analyze the role of process visibility in mitigating this discontinuity and its impact in customer outcomes. The research method is a scenario-based experiment and factors involved are fulfillment process visibility, the presence of fulfillment problems and compensation for fulfillment problems. Also customer prior experience with online retail channels is used as a control variable. The design is a between-subjects, incomplete 2x2x2, with an unbalanced number of participants and two missing cells. The participants were 153 undergraduate business students from an American northeast university. The results show that process visibility by itself has a positive impact on customer outcomes. Compensation and online buying experience did not show a direct impact on customer outcomes. Online buying experience moderates the impact of process visibility on service satisfaction and repurchase intention. Lastly procedural justice mediates the impact of process visibility on customer outcomes. The major practical implication from this study is that process visibility should be taken in consideration in online designs. It is shown that process visibility alleviates the discontinuity introduced by computer mediation, making the customer more satisfied, and increasing customer outcomes. The major theoretical implication is that it demonstrates how and why electronic commerce is different from traditional commerce. The discontinuity will also affect other behavioral aspects of electronic commerce, like trust, perceived risk, etc; and technical aspects, like business integration, web site design, etc. This research study opens a new path to be followed by electronic commerce researchers

    Sinusoidal frequency modulated spectrum analysis

We will analyze the stationary frequency modulated (FM) process with the additive ambient noise Zt =Yi+t:t =Acos(wct+X(t)+<P)+t:t, fortE Z where X(t) = B sin(wo t + cp) (1.2) is the sinusoidalmodulatingprocess, A and B are constants, wc, wo E [0, 1r] are, respectively, the carrier· and the modulating frequencies and cp and <P are uniformly distributed random variables on ( -1r, 1r] independent of each other and of the noise process {t:t}tEZ· We will consider the noise process as being Gaussian and white for simplicity of the exposition. However, the results are similar for any stationary and ergodic process with continuous spectral density function. Here we will estimate the relevant parameters A, B, wc and w0 by an updating procedure based on HOC (higher order correlations) sequences in the fine tuning of parametric filters. \\7e will use two different parametric families of time invariant linear filters: the alpha and complex filters. Here we alleviate the assumption of Gaussianity for the signal and we prove its stationarity and ergodicity under appropriate conditions

In this article, I challenge the understanding of sexuality as universal and biologically structured. I discuss sexuality as a historical and cultural construct, from the narratives of primary school teachers at initial grades, on their classroom experiences related to such issue. In the experiences narrated, the biological discourse stood out as the «correct» way to approach sexuality in school practices. Also related to that discourse structured on biology, some other discourses came up, which act in the media, in social groups, in the family, therefore engendering sexuality as an effect of cultural practices inscribed on bodies. In the study, I establish some connections with Cultural Studies, in their post-structuralist views, and with some of Foulcault's propositions

Effect of oxidizing concentration on the corrosion resistance of the cerium conversion coating on galvanized steel

Ce-based conversion films have been assessed as alternatives for replacement of Cr6+-based films, which have been forbidden for their toxicity and carcinogenic properties. However, corrosion protection associated with chromate films is difficult to achieve by other surface treatments. Experimental results have revealed that to obtain the highly satisfactory results provided by chromate-based conversion coatings, it is necessary to improve the anticorrosive properties of the new chromium-free coatings. The present work deals with the effect of the oxidant concentration in the cerium-based conversion baths on the corrosion resistance of the films deposited on galvanized steel. Electrogalvanized steel sheets were exposed to cerium chloride-based baths with different concentrations of oxidant for a minute. The surface of the treated samples was analyzed by XPS and SEM-EDXS, while its corrosion resistance was investigated using electrochemical tests (EIS) conducted in a 0.05 M NaCl solution and the impedance spectra evolution analyzed as a function of the exposure time. The results showed a direct relationship between oxidant concentration and corrosion resistance. When the oxidant concentration rose from2mL.L-1 to 12mL.L-1, the corrosion resistance increased about 5 times, and this was attributed to the decrease in the Ce3+/Ce4+ relationship of the conversion film.Fil: Culcasi, José Daniel.
