Introduzione alla veicolazione transdermica dell’Ibuprofene Sale Sodico e quantificazione in HPLC
The aim of this work is to quantify the Ibuprofen sodium salt in samples derived from Franz cells transdermal delivery experiments.
An analytical method for a determination of Ibuprofen sodium salt and Diclofenac sodium salt (used as internal standard) has been developed, assuring rapidity, accuracy, precision, selectivity and a minimal treatment of the sample.
With this method we have been able to analized not only the sample obtained from the recipient cell, but also the skin and the formulation used in the experiment.
To this aim a methods that would allow the easy removal of the drug from the tissue has been developped.
In this way, it was easy to verify the real quantification of the drug in all phases of the experiment and quantify its total delivery.
In order to perform High Performance Liquid Cromatography (HPLC) analysis, human skin used in experiment has been dissolved first and then deproteinized.
The effectiveness of deproteinization performed through methods such as precipitation with organic solvent, cryo-treatment, Amicon filter tubes, HybridSpe cartridges and Folch method has been verified through the use of the NanoOrange kit.
For the HPLC method, the working conditions were as follows: RP18 column EC 150/4,6 NUCLEODUR® 100-5 C18 ec, Macherey-Nagel GmbH & Co. KG protected with a guard column (EC 4/3 NUCLEODUR®, 100-5 C18 ec, 100-5 18 ec, Macherey-Nagel GmbH & Co. KG) and a pre-column (cut-off: 0,2 μm, Supelco, n. cat. 55215-U); mobile phase phosphate buffer 25 mM - Acetonitrile (73:27 v/v) (pH 7) adjusted with hydrochloric acid; flow 1.0 mL/min.; injection volume of 20 μL; and UV detection was carried out at 265 nm, and experiment were performed in a room where temperature was constantly kept at 25°C.
With this method, the detection of a drug concentration in a range between 0.03 - 7.69 μg/mL has been allowed.
Therefore, the proposed method can be successfully used for drug analysis in samples derived from transdermal delivery experiments
Dietary inclusion of tannin extract from red quebracho trees (Schinopsis spp.) in the rabbit meat production
Two levels (1% and 3%) of condensed tannin extract from red quebracho (QT) were added to a diet of growing rabbits in a 6-wk feeding trial up to 12 wk of age. Health status was unaf- fected by the QT supplementation. The E. coli count of caecal content denoted a bactericidal activity of the QT. Weight gain and slaughter weigh were significantly higher and conversion index was sig- nificantly lower in rabbits fed QT diets, compared to those fed the control diet (P<0.05). Meat traits, as well the meat fatty acid profile weren't influenced by the QT supplementation. Our results contributed to increase the knowledge on the dietary use of QT in the rabbit. QT extract supplemented at 1% and 3% in fattening rabbits diet had a clear beneficial effect on live performance. Further studies are needed to assess if supplementing diets with QT can be a valuable strategy

Lichens and lichenicolous fungi on Taxus baccata L and Ilex aquifolium L in Sardinia (Italy)
Ilex aquifolium L. and Taxus baccata L. are woody species which grow, often together, in humid and fresh mountain stations. In Sardinia, as in other Mediterranean countries, their ecological value is particularly high because they represent residuals of primeval forest that is almost disappeared for causes linked also to human activities. Lichens are a group of organisms which constitute a high percentage of the biodiversity in every site and they colonize the trees with peculiar species and growth forms. A study targeted on lichens growing on T.baccata and I. aquifolium seems not present until nowadays. The present study aims to extend the knowledge on Sardinia epiphytic lichens focusing on the ones growing on these two kinds of trees. The research was concentrated mainly on holly because it is more common than yew. Bibliographic material was collected and surveys were made in 23 localities for holly and 4 localities for yew. Descriptions of the ecological, geological and climatic features of the sampling sites and of the lichen component in each of them are provided. On holly 140 taxa were found, whereas 55 on yew, but the localities analyzed were less. Among them several species are particularly rare and 5 new records for Sardinia were found. Statistical elaborations were made to discover possible relationships between number of taxa collected and circumference of trees, altitude and climatic features of the sites
The aim of this paper is to explain how ILL-SBN can interoperate with other ILS, with particular reference to Sebina OpenLibrary and Aleph500.
Interoperability with Aleph500 has been obtained through cooperation with ITALE (Italian association of Ex Libris users); extensive testing has brought to review the configurations of both ILL-SBN and Aleph installations and to realize a HTTP/TCP-IP gateway. Interoperability with Sebina OpenLibrary has been made directly via HTTP.
The paper describes also the experience of the working group and what we think are the advantages of cooperation and interoperability in the present Italian situation. Our proposal is to broaden the cooperation with a view to realize a national integrated service
Left and right atrioventricular coupling index in patients with beta-thalassemia major
The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the relationship of left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI)
and right atrioventricular coupling index (RACI) with demographics, clinical data, cardiovascular magnetic resonance
fndings, and cardiac complications (heart failure, arrhythmias, and pulmonary hypertension) in a cohort of patients with
beta-thalassemia major (β-TM). We evaluated 292 β-TM patients (151 females, 36.72±11.76 years) consecutively enrolled
in the Extension-Myocardial Iron Overload in Thalassemia (E-MIOT) project. Moreover, we assessed 32 sex- and agematched healthy controls (12 females, mean age 40.78±14.35 years). LACI was determined by calculating the ratio of the
left atrium end-diastolic volume to the left ventricle end-diastolic volume, while RACI was defned by calculating the ratio
of the right atrium end-diastolic volume to the right ventricle end-diastolic volume. Compared to healthy control, β-TM
demonstrated increased LACI (22.99±13.58% vs. 16.05±5.28%; p<0.0001) and RACI (27.84±10.30% vs. 17.06±5.03%;
p<0.0001). Aging, diabetes, splenectomy, and the presence of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) showed a signifcant
positive association with both LACI and RACI. In stepwise regression analysis, the presence of LGE was found to be an
independent predictor of both impaired LACI and RACI (β coefcient=0.244, p<0.0001 and β coefcient=0.218, p=0.003;
respectively). LACI and RACI were not correlated with myocardial iron overload. Patients with cardiac complications had
signifcantly higher LACI and RACI than patients without cardiac complications. In patients with β-TM, LACI and RACI
were signifcantly associated with the presence of LV LGE. In addition, patients with cardiac complications had impaired LACI and RACI
Wild asparagus domestication for food/energy cropping system setup
The solar greenhouse sector is currently unbalanced towards energy production. Thus, the introduction of new crop options, such as wild asparagus, could contribute to the promotion of economic and environmental sustainability in these food/energy systems (mixed-systems). We hypothesized that wild asparagus is able to adapt both to sunny and partially shaded environments provided that both nutrient and water supply are guaranteed. Over a three-year experiment, we carried out an intensive examination of within-season phenological, physiological and productive dynamics under a greenhouse with 50% of the roof area covered with photovoltaic panels. Under the photovoltaic roof the net assimilation rate was on average 5 time lower, averaged over the growing seasons (0.6 μmol CO2 m-2 s-1), resulting in negative results for some monitoring dates. However, lower net assimilation rate did not negatively impact spears production in terms of number, length and diameter. The year of establishment affected the length of the spear, which was 4 cm shorter in 2013 than in 2014 and 2015, when no significant difference was observed. The novelty proposed in this study could be a successful option for farmers to promote production diversification and a promising strategy to guarantee the environmental and economic sustainability of the whole mixed system
Global longitudinal strain by cardiac magnetic resonance is associated with cardiac iron and complications in beta-thalassemia major patients
Background
The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the association of left ventricular (LV) strain parameters with demographics, clinical data, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) findings, and cardiac complications (heart failure and arrhythmias) in patients with β-thalassemia major (β-TM).
Method
We considered 266 β-TM patients (134 females, 37.08 ± 11.60 years) consecutively enrolled in the Extension-Myocardial Iron Overload in Thalassemia (E-MIOT) project and 80 healthy controls (50 females, mean age 39.77 ± 11.29 years). The CMR protocol included cine images for the assessment of global longitudinal strain (GLS), global circumferential strain (GCS), and global radial strain (GRS) using feature tracking (FT) and for the quantification of LV function parameters, the T2* technique for the assessment of myocardial iron overload, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) technique.
Results
In comparison to the healthy control group, β-TM patients showed impaired GLS, GCS, and GRS values.
Among β-TM patients, sex was identified as the sole independent determinant of all LV strain parameters. All LV strain parameters displayed a significant correlation with LV end-diastolic volume index, end-systolic volume index, mass index, and ejection fraction, and with the number of segments exhibiting LGE. Only GLS exhibited a significant correlation with global heart T2* values and the number of segments with T2* < 20 ms. Patients with cardiac complications exhibited significantly impaired GLS compared to those without cardiac complications.
Conclusion
In patients with β-TM, GLS, GCS, and GRS were impaired in comparison with control subjects. Among LV strain parameters, only GLS demonstrated a significant association with cardiac iron levels and complications
Immunohistochemistry as a reliable tool for the diagnosis of cystic echinococcosis in patients from Sardinia, Italy : a confirmatory study
Cystic Echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic disease caused by the larval stage of the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato (s.l.). This study aims to investigate the use of two monoclonal antibodies (mAbEmG3 and mAbEm2G11) by immunohistochemistry (IHC) to confirm the diagnosis of CE in human patients, in particular in those cases in which other techniques fail to provide a correct or conclusive diagnosis. For this purpose, a survey on 13 patients was performed. These subjects were referred to Sardinian hospitals (Italy) from 2017 to 2022 and were suspected to be affected by CE. Our findings from these 13 patients showed the detection of E. granulosus sensu stricto by IHC in 12 of 13 echinococcal cysts, as one sample was of a non-parasitological origin. The results confirmed that IHC, by means of the mAbEmG3 and mAbEm2G11, is a reliable diagnostic tool that showed a very high performances when tested on strain of E. granulosus s.l. from Sardinia
