Use of discrete choice to obtain urban freight evaluation data

    Get PDF
The ex-ante evaluation of urban freight solutions is a complex task, due to the interference of different stakeholder groups with different views and objectives. The multi-actor multi-criteria methods have developed as a response to this scenario, but the determination of the weights required by them remains an unclear and controversial task. We propose the use of discrete choice methods as a powerful tool to confront these multi-faced evaluation problems, since the resulting surveys are flexible and easy to respond, and do not give away the final quantitative results. We have applied this methodology to the selection of urban freight solutions in the city of Seville, in Spain, followed by the determination of the relative weights associated to different objectives, both analyses carried out from the side of the carriers stakeholder group.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2013-47286-C3-3-

A Nambu-Jona-Lasinio like model from QCD at low energies

    Get PDF
A generalization to any dimension of the fermion field transformation which allows to derive the solution of the massless Schwinger model in the path integral framework is identified. New arguments based on this transformation for a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) like model as the low energy limit of a gauge theory in dimension greater than two are presented. Our result supports the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking picture conjectured by Nambu many years ago and the link between QCD, NJL and chiral models.Comment: 7 pages, Latex file, no figures, revised version to appear in Phys. Curved momentum space, locality, and generalized space-time

We establish the correspondence between two apparently unrelated but in fact comple-mentary approaches of a relativistic deformed kinematics: the geometric properties of momentum space and the loss of absolute locality in canonical space-time, which can be restored with the intro-duction of a generalized space-time. This correspondence is made explicit for the case of ¿-Poincaré kinematics and compared with its properties in the Hopf algebra framework. © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland

Spacetime and deformations of special relativistic kinematics

    Get PDF
A deformation of special relativistic kinematics (possible signal of a theory of quantum gravity at low energies) leads to a modification of the notion of spacetime. At the classical level, this modification is required when one considers a model including single- or multi-interaction processes, for which absolute locality in terms of canonical spacetime coordinates is lost. We discuss the different alternatives for observable effects in the propagation of a particle over very large distances that emerge from the new notion of spacetime. A central ingredient in the discussion is the cluster decomposition principle, which can be used to favor some alternatives over the others

Optimising and simulating the assembly line balancing problem in a motorcycle manufacturing company : a case study

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present a real life assembly line balancing problem for a motorcycle manufacturing company. Results from the initial situation in the company are compared to those provided by a heuristic method and by a novel neighbourhood search method. An ARENA simulation model is developed to test the different proposals. The model was validated by comparing the simulation results from the initial company scenario with the real operation results. Consequently, the extension to the developed proposals allows us to select an adequate assembly line for the company, resulting in a greater productivity level and a more balanced line with respect to the operation times in the stations and the activity of the workers. The company has subsequently implemented our proposed schedule, obtaining remarkable improvements in its productivity

Simulating the effects of pedestrianisation on urban freight deliveries

    Get PDF
The city of Seville is currently developing a land - use reorganisation policy aimed at increasing the number of pedestrian spaces. This paper contains the microscopic simulation built to assess one of those pedestrianisation initiatives from the point of vi ew of its effects on traffic flows and, more specifically, freight deliveries. Two different alternatives are compared with the current scenario from the point of view of traffic congestion, parking space occupation and route times. Due to the complexity o f the freight delivery practices involved, the use of a standard traffic simulation package was not appropriate, and the simulations were carried out using the commercial package Arena, which enabled the representation of all that complexity with a spec ifi cally built simulation model

How do change pre-service teachers´ ideas about a fieldwork activity after its video-analysis and discussion in small groups?

Fieldwork activities in pre-service training of secondary school should include activities that go beyond the implementation of experiences that could be carried out in a secondary school. The present work analyzes the ideas declared by a classroom group of 16 secondary pre-service teachers in different moments of a set of practical activities. In it, the students answer questions about the sequence of activities carried out and their possible transposition to a secondary classroom. These questions are answered individually and in small teams. They also analyze their actions during the completion of a fieldwork activity based on the identification of trees and bushes. The objective of this work is to know if the video-analysis of the activity and its subsequent discussion favor the evolution of the Pedagogical Content Knowledge on the field activities. The results show a change of ideas of secondary pre-service teachers that are more in agreement with the recommendations given by the investigation about fieldwork activities

Application-layer Performance Analysis of PRIME in Smart Metering Networks

    Get PDF
This paper assesses the performance of actual PRIME v1.3.6 and PRIME v1.4 systems when used for Smart Metering applications. The analysis is performed at the application level using the DLMS/COSEM stack. Hence, it considers performance indicators that are of practical interest for distribution system operators, such as the availability and the average time needed to read the energy load profile of all the meters. To this end, two test networks with 112 smart meters have been deployed in the laboratory (to ensure the stability of the network). In one of them all the Service Nodes communicate directly with the Base Node, while there exist up to 5 switching levels in the other tested network. First, the PRIME v1.3.6 system is evaluated, stressing the significant performance gain that can be obtained by implementing some MAC layer strategies, which are compatible with the specification but not specifically defined on it. Then, the improvement offered by the PRIME v1.4 system is assessed.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
