The dependence of the galaxy stellar-to-halo mass relation on galaxy morphology
We investigate the dependence of the local galaxy stellar-to-halo mass
relation (SHMR) on galaxy morphology. We use data from the Sloan Digital Sky
Survey DR7 with morphological classifications from Galaxy Zoo, and compare with
the EAGLE cosmological simulation. At fixed halo mass in the mass range
, the median stellar masses of SDSS disc galaxies
are up to a factor of 1.4 higher than the median masses of their elliptical
counterparts. However, when we switch from the stellar masses from Kauffmann et
al. to those calculated by Chang et al. or Brinchmann et al., the median SHMR
from discs and ellipticals coincide in this mass range. For halo masses larger
than , discs are less massive than ellipticals in same-mass
haloes, regardless of whose stellar mass estimates we use. However, we find
that for these high halo masses the results for discs may be affected by
central/satellite misclassifications. The EAGLE simulation predicts that discs
are up to a factor of 1.5 more massive than elliptical galaxies residing in
same-mass haloes less massive than , in agreement with the
Kauffmann et al. data. Haloes with masses between and
, that host disc galaxies, were assembled earlier than those
hosting ellipticals. This suggests that the discs are more massive because they
had more time for gas accretion and star formation. In
haloes, the central black holes in elliptical
galaxies grew faster and became more massive than their counterparts in disc
galaxies. This suggests that in this halo mass range the ellipticals are less
massive because AGN feedback ejected more of the halo's gas reservoir, reducing
star formation, and suppressing the (re)growth of stellar discs.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS, 18 pages, 16 figures. Comments

An analysis of a regular black hole interior model
We analyze the thermodynamical properties of the regular static and
spherically symmetric black hole interior model presented by Mboyne and
Kazanas. Equations for the thermodynamical quantities valid for an arbitrary
density profile are deduced, and from them we show that the model is
thermodynamically unstable. Evidence is also presented pointing to its
dynamical instability. The gravitational entropy of this solution based on the
Weyl curvature conjecture is calculated, following the recipe given by Rudjord,
Grn and Sigbjrn, and it is shown to have the expected
behavior.Comment: 22 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in International

Perfil inflamatório, obesidade e parâmetros dietéticos no pós-transplante renal
In this work, analysis methodologies were developed to evaluate the biodegradability of diesel, biodiesel and B10 blends, using infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) technique associated with chemometry and the use of the digital image analysis. The aim of this work was to develop analytical methods capable of evaluating biodegradation in diesel, quantifying biomass formed in biodegradation of biodiesel/diesel mixtures and finally quantifying the number of colonies of deteriogenic microorganisms in biodiesel. For this, multivariate analysis methods were used such as principal component analysis (PCA) and multivariate least squares regression (PLS) and the digital image analysis. For the study of diesel biodegradation was investigated different combinations of pre-processing methods applied in mid-infrared spectra to analyze diesel samples with different sulfur contents that were subjected to simulated storage with microbial contamination for a period of 40 days. For quantification of biomass in B10 blends (10% pure biodiesel and 90% diesel oil), samples subjected to biodegradation by microorganisms were used and analyzed using medium infrared spectroscopy and multivariate regression. To quantify the number of colonies, digital images of petri dishes containing colonies of the genus Bacillus pumilus and the yeast Meyerozyma guilliermondii were used and a Python code was developed to automatically count the colony forming units from the digital images. The main results obtained demonstrated that the FTIR-ATR can be used to assess diesel degradation and that the region of 1528 - 1318 cm-1 is the most suitable and a possible combination of pre-processing with normalization/second derivative/centered on average. For the quantification using FTIR-ATR spectra, the figures of merit of the proposed method were evaluated, being considered appropriate for its objective. The counting of colony forming units, by a semi-automatic method, the calibration and validation were compared with the classic manual counting. The results showed calibration and validation curves with coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.99 and 0 .98, respectively
The concept of the atom is discussed at the beginning of High School, and is also traditionally one of the stages where the History of Science is most commonly used in chemistry teaching. Here we present and discuss a Teaching Proposal for the first year of High School developed in a public school in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The proposal consisted in the use of historical episodes to present and discuss the evolution of knowledge that took the atomic theory from the model proposed by Dalton to the Bohr model, exploring aspects of the Nature of Science, valuing the contextualisation of each model and the scientific transformations of each period. The Teaching Proposal was planned according to a historiographic study on the atomic models and for analysis and interpretation of the data of the application of proposal was used Discursive Textual Analysis. The analysis began with an exploratory research on students' previous knowledge about atom and during the development of the didactic sequence, the atomic model conceptions elaborated by the students were analyzed. The interpretation of the data showed that the conceptions for atom presented similarity to the model of Rutherford-Bohr and was described as the smaller constituent of the matter. In the data collected in the following classes, in Dalton's model, two understandings for the atom were identified, that they were equal, but had different weights and atom that was connected to form substances. In the Thomson model, most students represented in the drawings understand the concept of electric charge and that the atom would not be indivisible. In most of the representations for Rutherford's model the understanding of the central charge on the atom and particle around the central charge. In the discussion of Bohr's model, students reported from Dalton's model to Rutherford-Bohr's, and two different understandings were found, students who demonstrated knowledge of each atomic model and students who reported changes in the models. According to the analysis of the data it was possible to identify that this approach is promising for the learning about the atomic models and about the Nature of Science
Influence of local structure on relic neutrino abundances and anisotropies
Gravitational potentials of the Milky Way and extragalactic structures can
influence the propagation of the cosmic neutrino background (CNB). Of
particular interest to future CNB observatories, such as PTOLEMY, is the CNB
number density on Earth. In this study, we have developed a simulation
framework that maps the trajectories of relic neutrinos as they move through
the local gravitational environment. The potentials are based on the dark
matter halos found in state-of-the-art cosmological N-body simulations,
resulting in a more nuanced and realistic input than the previously employed
analytical models. We find that the complex dark matter distributions, along
with their dynamic evolution, influence the abundance and anisotropies of the
CNB in ways unaccounted for by earlier analytical methods. Importantly, these
cosmological simulations contain multiple instances of Milky Way-like halos
that we employ to model a variety of gravitational landscapes. Consequently, we
notice a variation in the CNB number densities that can be primarily attributed
to the differences in the masses of these individual halos. For neutrino masses
between and eV, we note clustering factors within the range of
to . Furthermore, the asymmetric
nature of the underlying dark matter distributions within the halos results in
not only overdense, but intriguingly, underdense regions within the full-sky
anisotropy maps. Gravitational clustering appears to have a significant impact
on the angular power spectra of these maps, leading to orders of magnitude more
power on smaller scales beyond multipoles of when juxtaposed against
predictions by primordial fluctuations. We discuss how our results reshape our
understanding of relic neutrino clustering and how this might affect
observability of future CNB observatories such as PTOLEMY.Comment: 25 pages, 10 figures, comments are welcom
