    Portuguese population is growing older, according to national data in 2011 the aging index was 129. The number of elderly population is higher than the younger; average life expectancy is 79,2 years (1). Because knee Osteoarthritis increases with age, and according to WHO 80% of these subjects will have some degree of impairment and 25% will not be able to do their daily living activities (2), OA has a big impact on the sustainability of both health and social care as populations grow older.     Fault Localization in Multi-Threaded C Programs using Bounded Model Checking (extended version)

    Software debugging is a very time-consuming process, which is even worse for multi-threaded programs, due to the non-deterministic behavior of thread-scheduling algorithms. However, the debugging time may be greatly reduced, if automatic methods are used for localizing faults. In this study, a new method for fault localization, in multi-threaded C programs, is proposed. It transforms a multi-threaded program into a corresponding sequential one and then uses a fault-diagnosis method suitable for this type of program, in order to localize faults. The code transformation is implemented with rules and context switch information from counterexamples, which are typically generated by bounded model checkers. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective, in such a way that sequential fault-localization methods can be extended to multi-threaded programs.Comment: extended version of paper published at SBESC'1

    We extend the Falceto-Zambon version of Marsden-Ratiu Poisson reduction to Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background on manifolds. We define gauge transformations of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background, study some of their properties and show that they are compatible with reduction procedure.     Electrochemical and photocatalytic reactions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons investigated by raman spectroscopy

    This paper presents the study of photochemical behavior of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), potential pollutants in secondary reactions in aerosols, through Raman spectroscopy compared with its electrochemical behavior. The PAHs studied include pyrene, anthracene, phenanthrene and fluorene. These were adsorbed onto TiO2 and irradiated with ultraviolet light (254 nm). Their electrochemical oxidation was studied by in situ Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and led to the formation of carbonyl-containing products. Oxidized intermediates bearing the C=O group were also formed during photodegradation. The joint analysis of the photodegradation data with those produced by electrochemical means - using spectroscopic techniques for the identification and characterization of the products - revealed the formation of identical products for anthracene, but not for pyrene. A reasonable explanation for this difference in results is that photochemical and electrochemical oxidation reactions proceed via different mechanisms. While photocatalytic degradation over TiO2 is initiated by hydroxyl radicals, electrochemical oxidation is initiated by the direct electron transfer from adsorbed PAH to the electrode, generating PAH cation radicals that undergo subsequent reactions.Este trabalho apresenta o estudo do comportamento fotoquímico de hidrocarbonetos policíclicos aromáticos (HPAs), potenciais poluentes secundários em reações em aerossóis, através de espectroscopia Raman em comparação com seu comportamento eletroquímico. Os HPAs estudados incluem pireno, antraceno, fenantreno e fluoreno. Esses foram adsorvidos sobre o catalisador TiO2 e irradiados com radiação ultravioleta (254 nm). A oxidação eletroquímica foi estudada via espectroscopia Raman intensificada pela superfície (SERS) in situ e levou à formação de produtos carbonilados. Intermediários oxidados contendo o grupo C=O foram também observados nos processos de fotodegradação. A comparação entre os intermediários formados nos processos fotoquímicos e eletroquímicos revela produtos idênticos para o antraceno, mas não para o pireno. Esse resultado advém da diferença de mecanismo para esses dois processos. A degradação fotocatalítica sobre TiO2 é iniciada por radicais hidroxila, enquanto a oxidação eletroquímica é iniciada por transferência eletrônica direta com o HPA adsorvido no eletrodo, gerando cátions radicais do HPA que desencadeiam as reações subseqüentes.FAPESPCNP

    Prevalence And Intensity Of Haemoproteus Columbae In Three Species Of Wild Doves From Brazil.

    The prevalence and intensity of blood parasites in three species of wild doves were studied in the municipality of Junqueirópolis, in the western region of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Three species of doves were surveyed: 331 specimens of Zenaida auriculata Des Murs, 1847, 62 specimens of Columbina talpacoti Temminck, 1811 and 57 specimens of Scardafella squammata Lesson, 1831. Haemoproteus columbae Kruse, 1890 was found in blood from all the doves species. The prevalence of this parasite was 100% in Z. auriculata, 51.6% in C. talpacoti and 19.3% in S. squammata. Specimens of Z. auriculata had a higher intensity of infection than the other doves species.96175-

    Molecular dynamics study of the interface between water and 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether

    We present results of molecular dynamics simulations of the interface between water and 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE). This system is analyzed in detail using a procedure to calculate intrinsic profiles of several important properties (density, radial distribution functions, hydrogen bonds, molecular orientation, self-diffusion). The interface was found to be molecularly sharp but corrugated by thermal fluctuations. Using a method based on capillary wave theory, we have estimated the interfacial tension and obtained good agreement with values calculated from the virial route. The results were compared to simulations of the water/nitrobenzene interface. The presence of an alkyl chain in NPOE introduces an added degree of hydrophobicity, which causes an increase in the interfacial tension. Furthermore, interfacial NPOE molecules are less organized than nitrobenzene and show a distinct dynamic response. These results shed light on the observed differences between these two organic liquids in electrochemical studies
