Current black series can be seized in a more global configuration in their relationships with black novel and black film. A methodology of “language games” borrowed from the second Wittgenstein allows to make translations between the “language game” of the novel, that of the movie of fiction and that of the series, in a dialogue with the “knowledge games” of philosophy and sociology. A radical social criticism in connection with an existential and moral interrogation is worked in every “language game” with analogies and specificities. By visiting successively a novel (Gone, Baby Gone, Dennis Lehane), a movie (In the Valley of Elah, Paul Haggis) and a series (The Killing, american version, Veena Sud), we locate some movements committed in these translations. A criticism of the conspiracy narrative emerge of these three creations as well as figures of a perfectionist ethics. The proposed investigations have an exploratory and programmatic content

American Crime, The Sinner, Sharp Objects, Unorthodox

Comment l’extrĂȘme droite gagne la bataille des idĂ©es (2021).Critical theory with an emancipatory aim can find a source of regeneration today in ordinary cultures, especially in TV series, drawing on Stanley Cavell’s work on cinema. Some series can thus participate in the reinvention of critical theories, in the wake of the Frankfurt School but by shifting some formulations in the light of current comprehensive and pragmatist sociologies. This implies a cross-border dialogue between the TV series “language game” and the political theory “knowledge game”, from concepts inspired by Ludwig Wittgenstein. Four series will be under study: the first seasons of American Crime (2015) and The Sinner (2017), Sharp Objects (2018) and Unorthodox (2020). The critical contributions of these series reveal links with the political philosophy of openness of being derived from Emmanuel Levinas. Through the angle of the TV series “language game”, this article explores these main themes using the tools of political theory designed in the book La grande confusion. Hommage Ă  Stanley Cavell (1926-2018) ».This introductive article propose a brief overview of the contributions of Stanley Cavell in his dialogues between philosophy and cinema. It emphasizes the rock of the ordinary (in the wake of Emerson, Thoreau, Wittgenstein and Austin), the links between moral perfectionism and democratic radicality, its educational and self-educational scope, as well as the importance of considering ordinary cultures (cinema, TV series, etc.) as true democratic arts. It then sketches out what some of the axes of a Cavellian-inspired program could be for the study of TV series in philosophy and social sciences. Finally, it presents the various contributions of this issue of TV/Series devoted to “Perfectionism and TV series. A tribute to Stanley Cavell (1926-2018)”

In this interview, three researchers (one of whom is the co-script-writer) and the script-writer and producer of Nadia and the hippopotami (1999) explain their goals in making this fictional film about the railwaymen’s strike in 1995. After discussing the role and the character of the political film in France, they analyse different interpretations of the film, especially as a representation of the railwaymen’s world, and the evolution of these readings of the film over time. peer reviewedaudience: researcherVitamin C is known for its antioxidant potential and activity in the collagen biosynthetic pathway. Photoprotective properties of topically applied vitamin C have also been demonstrated, placing this molecule as a potential candidate for use in the prevention and treatment of skin ageing. A topically applied cream containing 5% vitamin C and its excipient were tested on healthy female volunteers presenting with photoaged skin on their low-neck and arms in view to evaluate efficacy and safety of such treatment. A double-blind, randomized trial was performed over a 6-month period, comparing the action of the vitamin C cream vs. excipient on photoaged skin. Clinical assessments included evaluation at the beginning and after 3 and 6 months of daily treatment. They were performed by the investigator and compared with the volunteer self assessment. Skin relief parameters were determined on silicone rubber replicas performed at the same time-points. Cutaneous biopsies were obtained at the end of the trial and investigated using immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. Clinical examination by a dermatologist as well as self-assessment by the volunteers disclosed a significant improvement, in terms of the 'global score', on the vitamin C-treated side compared with the control. A highly significant increase in the density of skin microrelief and a decrease of the deep furrows were demonstrated. Ultrastructural evidence of the elastic tissue repair was also obtained and well corroborated the favorable results of the clinical and skin surface examinations. Topical application of 5% vitamin C cream was an effective and well-tolerated treatment. It led to a clinically apparent improvement of the photodamaged skin and induced modifications of skin relief and ultrastructure, suggesting a positive influence of topical vitamin C on parameters characteristic for sun-induced skin ageing
