Measurement of residual nucleus cross sections and recoil energies in p + Fe collisions at 300, 500, 750, 1000 and 1500 MeV

The production of residual nuclei in p + Fe collisions has been measured at GSI on the FRS facility by means of the reverse kinematic techniques at 300, 500, 750, 1000 and 1500 MeV/A. The cross-sections larger than 0.01 mb of all isotopes with Z larger than 8 have been obtained. Velocity distributions were also measured. Comparisons to models describing spallation reactions and some empirical formulae often used in astrophysics are presented. These data are directly used to calculate impurety production and DPAs in a thin window as foreseen in spallation sources or accelerator-driven systems

Masculinidades e práticas de saúde na região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte - MG

O objetivo desta investigação foi identificar e analisar as representações sociais de saúde e de doença e as práticas de saúde masculina junto a homens residentes na Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte-MG. Foram entrevistados 100 sujeitos com idade entre 45 e 55 anos. Os dados foram submetidos às análises de evocação e de conteúdo. RESULTADOS: elementos centrais da Representação Social (RS) de saúde: "bem-estar", "cuidado" e "importante". Elementos periféricos próximos: "alegria/felicidade" e "alimentação". Elementos centrais da RS de doença: "tristeza" e "dor". Elementos periféricos próximos: "sofrimento" e "morte". Definição de "cuidar da saúde": "cuidar da alimentação" (17,25% das respostas) e "praticar atividades físicas" (11,11%). Dos sujeitos, 52% afirmaram que cuidam da própria saúde e 34% que o fazem "às vezes". Quem contribui para o cuidado com a própria saúde: "eu mesmo" (29,63%), "esposa" (25,93%). Busca por atendimento médico: "às vezes" no Hospital (69% dos sujeitos; motivo principal: "dor forte/persistente", 13,87% das respostas) ou nos consultórios (72% dos sujeitos; motivo principal: "exames de rotina", 22,22% das respostas). A análise dos resultados indica a percepção mais geral do cuidar da saúde como um conjunto de práticas individuais objetivando o "bem-estar". Os resultados também indicam considerável quantidade de ações objetivando os cuidados com a saúde, o que contraria parte das percepções tradicionais quanto à fraca associação entre masculinidades e cuidado de si

A História da Alimentação: balizas historiográficas

Os M. pretenderam traçar um quadro da História da Alimentação, não como um novo ramo epistemológico da disciplina, mas como um campo em desenvolvimento de práticas e atividades especializadas, incluindo pesquisa, formação, publicações, associações, encontros acadêmicos, etc. Um breve relato das condições em que tal campo se assentou faz-se preceder de um panorama dos estudos de alimentação e temas correia tos, em geral, segundo cinco abardagens Ia biológica, a econômica, a social, a cultural e a filosófica!, assim como da identificação das contribuições mais relevantes da Antropologia, Arqueologia, Sociologia e Geografia. A fim de comentar a multiforme e volumosa bibliografia histórica, foi ela organizada segundo critérios morfológicos. A seguir, alguns tópicos importantes mereceram tratamento à parte: a fome, o alimento e o domínio religioso, as descobertas européias e a difusão mundial de alimentos, gosto e gastronomia. Educational Design and Construction: Processes and Technologies

There are no one-size-fits-all steps for tackling different design challenges within the context of education. There are, however, processes and activities that are often useful. Developing a repertoire so that designers can select and use the most fruitful and fitting approaches for specific situations is the focus of this chapter. After discussing this phase in relation to those of analysis and evaluation, attention is given to how both analytical and creative perspectives can serve the work of design and construction. The body of the chapter is devoted to presenting specific activities that can be undertaken during design (exploring and mapping solutions) and construction (actually building the solutions). This chapter presents ideas in linear fashion, which loosely approximates the order in which these activities might logically be carried out. However, each design project is different. Not all activities described here are useful in all projects, others are likely to be added, and several activities described in this chapter often take place simultaneously

Design of a tension fabric structure with analogy to nature

The aim of the project was to design a small-to-medium size tension fabric structure to rejuvenate a chosen area on University campus. The structure was to have an aesthetic appeal, with the fabric membrane having a minimum life-span of 15 years. The structure is an impressive culmination of a fourth year project which incorporates aspects of civil engineering and architecture. A considerable benefit realised from the project was the learning experience for the students, encouraging self-development in many different aspects: creativity, understanding of unconventional concepts, appreciation of the underlying theory and design methodologies
