Nonlocality-induced front interaction enhancement
We demonstrate that nonlocal coupling strongly influences the dynamics of
fronts connecting two equivalent states. In two prototype models we observe a
large amplification in the interaction strength between two opposite fronts
increasing front velocities several orders of magnitude. By analyzing the
spatial dynamics we prove that way beyond quantitative effects, nonlocal terms
can also change the overall qualitative picture by inducing oscillations in the
front profile. This leads to a mechanism for the formation of localized
structures not present for local interactions. Finally, nonlocal coupling can
induce a steep broadening of localized structures, eventually annihilating
them.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
Frequency planning optimisation in real mobile networks
Due to the annual increase of cellular subscribers, there is a growing interest by the network operators, in how to deploy the network infrastructure to achieve maximum capacity. A key point is the channel or frequency assignment, which implies efficiently assigning frequencies from a limited set, to each cell, while satisfying the electromagnetic compatibility constraints.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Theory for the spatiotemporal dynamics of domain walls close to a nonequilibrium Ising-Bloch transition
© 2015 American Physical Society. We derive a generic model for the interaction of domain walls close to a nonequilibrium-Bloch transition. The universal scenario predicted by the model includes stationary Ising and Bloch localized structures (dissipative solitons), as well as drifting and oscillating Bloch structures. Our theory also explains the behavior of Bloch walls during a collision. The results are confirmed by numerical simulations of the Ginzburg-Landau equation forced at twice its natural frequency and are in agreement with previous observations in several physical systems.Peer Reviewe
Logical operations with Localized Structures
We show how to exploit excitable regimes mediated by localized structures
(LS) to perform AND, OR, and NOT logical operations providing full logical
functionality. Our scheme is general and can be implemented in any physical
system displaying LS. In particular, LS in nonlinear photonic devices can be
used for all-optical computing applications where several reconfigurable logic
gates can be implemented in the transverse plane of a single device, allowing
for parallel computing.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Convective and Absolute Instabilities in the Subcritical Ginzburg-Landau Equation
We study the nature of the instability of the homogeneous steady states of
the subcritical Ginzburg-Landau equation in the presence of group velocity. The
shift of the absolute instability threshold of the trivial steady state,
induced by the destabilizing cubic nonlinearities, is confirmed by the
numerical analysis of the evolution of its perturbations. It is also shown that
the dynamics of these perturbations is such that finite size effects may
suppress the transition from convective to absolute instability. Finally, we
analyze the instability of the subcritical middle branch of steady states, and
show, analytically and numerically, that this branch may be convectively
unstable for sufficiently high values of the group velocity.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures (fig1.ps, fig2.eps, fig3.ps, fog4a.ps, fig

This research focuses on the structural and the graphic pack design from the perspective of advertising message. The theoretical framework is limited by the conceptual dimensions of the visual artifact: communicative, material, commercial and psychological. How is formulated the visual message has become the leitmotiv of this work. Our subject is the implementation of the visual code that governs packaging in order to facilitate their typological recognition in an adverse and very competitive scenario: the point of sale. In this case, the study has been implemented with cans of cola. The experimental methodology used was an analysis of variance in repeated measures design. This approach has allowed us to do a multivariate statistical analysis
