There are images in History of Art, Science, Technique, Humanities, which are milestones. Las Meninas is one of these. Several levels of reading and deepening have been proposed by historians and theoreticians, and many interpretations have been made. Yet the very sophisticated construction of this masterpiece seems to escape any univocal hypothesis, making it as well astonishing as enigmatic. Our interest in this extraordinary opera stems from the fact that it belongs to that special category of paintings whose meaning is inextricably based on and linked to their projective structure; therefore, aware of the wideness of the implications, we will mainly focus on its geometric and graphic feature.Postoje djela prekretnice u povijesti umjetnosti, znanosti, tehnici i humanistici.

Cocchiarella, Cara, M.S., Spring 2008 Health and Human Performance A Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of the Key Leadership Skills and Characteristics of Selected Head Collegiate Women’s Basketball Coaches Chairperson: Dr. Charles Palmer Researchers and practitioners alike have long been interested in those key skills and characteristics that a leader must possess in order to be successful in his or her chosen field. Countless studies have been undertaken and books written in business, military, and athletic domains, all trying to determine which of these attributes are the most important for a leader to hold. For coaching applications, an understanding of these skills and characteristics would be helpful for those engaged in self-development or for inclusion in coach education programs and clinics. In order to further the knowledge in this area, qualitative interviews were conducted with 12 head collegiate women’s basketball coaches. The top five most common themes extracted through interviews were communication, relationship building, organization, recruiting, and knowledge of the game. Further examination revealed that these skills and characteristics make up a fairly complete and accurate list of focus areas for coaches wishing to improve or advance in the field. Surveys were then completed by nine of the original 12 head coaches and fourteen of their respective assistant coaches and 88 players from various women’s basketball programs in the Northwest. Quantitative ranking surveys indicated that players and assistant coaches feel that knowledge of the game is the most important skill and/or characteristic possessed by head coaches, while head coaches favored recruiting and relationship building skills. Results also indicated that success is not only defined by wins and losses; other definitions included teamwork or unity and improvement as a group. The results of this study concluded that there is no recipe for success in coaching

THE EFFECT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE PARTICIPATION ON TEAM COHESIVENESS IN NCAA DIVISION I WOMEN\u27S VOLLEYBALL TEAMS

Despite the efforts of many to determine the best means for constructing and maintaining unified sports teams, leaders in the field continue to seek additional methods. This non-experimental quantitative analysis of NCAA Division I Women\u27s Volleyball teams examined the value of community service participation as a team building activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference, if any, that exists between the amounts of cohesiveness on teams that employ different grouping strategies in community service work. Participants representing 74 different teams included a coach and a total of 442 players from those schools across the country. Mann Whitney U Tests were employed to explore team scores on the Group Environment Questionnaire and individual player perceptions of community service. Findings revealed no statistically significant differences on either measure from teams that conducted service as an entire group in comparison to those that did so in small groups or on an individual basis. Further analyses indicated a statistically significant difference in the players\u27 perception of the value of service work to the local community when comparing teams coached by natives of the local community as opposed to those who were not. Results of the study indicated patterns of positive feelings associated with community service and its potential as a team building exercise among the student-athletes involved. Future studies should include further analysis of team cohesion as well as the role of community service in intercollegiate athletics

The digital and the related technological evolution in recent years have shifted to words such as Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence. The wider use of these and other technologies in architecture has been far limited by a lack of IT tools with which architects could interface since they have been made available in the last few years only. The evolution of the tools used by the architect can be condensed and simplied into a sequence of three stages: Drawing Board, CAD systems, Game Engines. The frames of this sequence, in addition to indicating instruments, are representative of the historical context in which they have been or are still being used. This study, based on a Master thesis recently discussed at the Politecnico di Milano [14], examines the role that Game Engines can play in the graphic representation and design processes. More specifically, it takes a closer look at the Unreal Engine as a tool for creating a real-time design environment and using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to represent user flows in the space as valuable support and a relevant part of the design strategies aiming at implementing and evaluating design options. For this purpose, various simulations have been carried out both considering users\u27 flows based on assigned spaces, and generating spaces based on the users\u27 flows.

The output, Pomona’s Beauty Spots, is a creative project comprising an interactive exhibit, which invited the audience to consider the presence of place and significant points of interest, and written text. The project was a collaboration between Hayward and Fabrizio Cocchiarella, with both contributing equally to the project. Research process: A passive experience of navigating the terrain has not been prescribed or facilitated, therefore we are free to create an un-regulated personal geography, establishing our own markers as points of reference, signposting memories through physical encounter, exploring freedom.” In order to consolidate visions, interpretations and works in progress from Pomona Encounters – the exhibitors were invited by Gaia Project Press to create a publication/book that reflected the thoughts, passions and connections explored was produced. Research insights: Discovering the city often uses commercial psycho-spatial systems of reference that mediate our relationships with people, landmarks and architectural objects. Our connection with nature is negotiated through the exploration of natural spatial phenomena, sometimes shaped by humans, but when exploring un-chartered territories, we encounter landscapes that are dependent on discovery. Through the interaction, walkers encountered a cornucopia of paradoxical tales around themes of biodiversity and urban planning, carbon-free air miles, invasive species for healthy living, and old toolkits to design new nature. with the status quo and propose new futures for Pomona and beyond. Dissemination: The research was disseminated as part of Pomona Encounters, Pomona Island, Manchester on 21 July 2016. Findings were also shared through Pomona’s beauty spots, in Fruitful Futures, Imagining Pomona, published by Gaia Projects Press, 2016

Entanglement distance for an arbitrary state of M qubits

We propose a measure of entanglement that can be computed for any pure state of an MM-qubit system. The entanglement measure has the form of a distance that we derive from an adapted application of the Fubini-Study metric. This measure is invariant under local unitary transformations and defined as trace of a suitable metric that we derive, the entanglement metric g~\tilde{g}. Furthermore, the analysis of the eigenvalues of g~\tilde{g} gives information about the robustness of entanglement.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

An efficient in vitro transposition method by a transcriptionally regulated sleeping beauty system packaged into an integration defective lentiviral vector

The Sleeping Beauty (SB) transposon is a non-viral integrating system with proven efficacy for gene transfer and functional genomics. To optimize the SB transposon machinery, a transcriptionally regulated hyperactive transposase (SB100X) and T2-based transposon are employed. Typically, the transposase and transposon are provided transiently by plasmid transfection and SB100X expression is driven by a constitutive promoter. Here, we describe an efficient method to deliver the SB components to human cells that are resistant to several physical and chemical transfection methods, to control SB100X expression and stably integrate a gene of interest (GOI) through a "cut and paste" SB mechanism. The expression of hyperactive transposase is tightly controlled by the Tet-ON system, widely used to control gene expression since 1992. The gene of interest is flanked by inverted repeats (IR) of the T2 transposon. Both SB components are packaged in integration defective lentiviral vectors transiently produced in HEK293T cells. Human cells, either cell lines or primary cells from human tissue, are in vitro transiently transduced with viral vectors. Upon addition of doxycycline (dox, tetracycline analog) into the culture medium, a fine-tuning of transposase expression is measured and results in a long-lasting integration of the gene of interest in the genome of the treated cells. This method is efficient and applicable to the cell line (e.g., HeLa cells) and primary cells (e.g., human primary keratinocytes), and thus represents a valuable tool for genetic engineering and therapeutic gene transfer
