This thesis represents writing as a medium using the theoretical framework of selected publications within the so-called Toronto-School of Communication. The difference between orality and literacy, the processes of literacy, the effects and consequences for the development of cultural organizations made up a large part of the investigations within the Toronto School represents. These investigations are critically illuminated and along these investigations are educationally relevant aspects and relationships worked out in order to show that the approaches to new media no phenomenon of the present, and to clarify the media in which the knowledge is taught. The educational requirements of the increasing importance of new media requires a new perspective on the relationship between media and education, and therefore also of media education and educational theory

Subcellular duplex DNA and G‐quadruplex interaction profiling of a hexagonal PtII metallacycle

[Abstract] Metal‐driven self‐assembly afforded a multitude of fascinating supramolecular coordination complexes (SCCs) with applications as catalysts, host–guest, and stimuli‐responsive systems. However, the interest in the biological applications of SCCs is only starting to emerge and thorough characterization of their behavior in biological milieus is still lacking. Herein, we report on the synthesis and detailed in‐cell tracking of a Pt2L2 metallacycle. We show that our hexagonal supramolecule accumulates in cancer cell nuclei, exerting a distinctive blue fluorescence staining of chromatin resistant to UV photobleaching selectively in nucleolar G4‐rich regions. SCC co‐localizes with epitopes of the quadruplex‐specific antibody BG4 and replaces other well‐known G4 stabilizers. Moreover, the photophysical changes accompanying the metallacycle binding to G4s in solution (fluorescence quenching, absorption enhancement) also take place intracellularly, allowing its subcellular interaction tracking.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad; CTQ2016-75629-

The Structure and Regulation of Human Muscle α-Actinin

SummaryThe spectrin superfamily of proteins plays key roles in assembling the actin cytoskeleton in various cell types, crosslinks actin filaments, and acts as scaffolds for the assembly of large protein complexes involved in structural integrity and mechanosensation, as well as cell signaling. α-actinins in particular are the major actin crosslinkers in muscle Z-disks, focal adhesions, and actin stress fibers. We report a complete high-resolution structure of the 200 kDa α-actinin-2 dimer from striated muscle and explore its functional implications on the biochemical and cellular level. The structure provides insight into the phosphoinositide-based mechanism controlling its interaction with sarcomeric proteins such as titin, lays a foundation for studying the impact of pathogenic mutations at molecular resolution, and is likely to be broadly relevant for the regulation of spectrin-like proteins

Das Alte Buch an der ULB Tirol – Erbe und Auftrag

The University and State Library of Tyrol holds extensive and important historic collections of manuscripts, incunabula and early prints which have been substantially expanded over the last few years. The Special Collections department is responsible for preserving and making accessible this cultural heritage, understanding its tradition as a mission. The origin and the recent developments of the department are highlighted by the following article. In 2007 the University Library of Innsbruck took over the additional function of an official Library of the State of Tyrol. The Special Collections department complies with this new role by focusing not only on its own historic holdings, but by assisting other historic collections in Tyrol. The projects of cataloging the manuscripts in other Tyrolean libraries may serve as an example. The authors of the contributions are mentioned in brackets
