Long-time anomalous swimmer diffusion in smectic liquid crystals

The dynamics of self-locomotion of active particles in aligned or liquid crystalline fluids strongly deviates from that in simple isotropic media. We explore the long-time dynamics of a swimmer moving in a three-dimensional smectic liquid crystal and find that the mean-square displacement (MSD) transverse to the director exhibits a distinct logarithmic tail at long times. The scaling is distinctly different from that in an isotropic or nematic fluid and hints at the subtle but important role of the director fluctuation spectrum in governing the long-time motility of active particles. Our findings are based on a generic hydrodynamic theory and Brownian dynamics computer simulation of a three-dimensional soft mesogen model.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure

Charakterisierung räumlicher Dispersionseigenschaften ultrakurzer Laserpulse

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Vermessung räumlich lateraler Unterschiede der Dispersion räumlich ausgedehnter ultrakurzer Laserpulse. Die Zielstellung ist etwaige Unterschiede zu charakterisieren. Hierfür wir die Methode der fouriertransformierten spektralen Interferometrie evaluiert, angepasst und experimentell angewendet. Anhand von gemessenen Versuchsaufbauten wird gezeigt, dass die Methodik sinnvoll auf die Problemstellung angewendet werden kann

Relación de la citología vaginal con el ciclo estral de la perra doméstica (Canis familiaris)

El presente estudio se realizó con el propósito de relacionar la conducta sexual de la perra doméstica (Canis familiaris) con la citología vaginal. Para este propósito se evaluaron 50 perras mestizas (95%); se determinó su conducta sexual y citología vaginal a través de tinciones Giemsa y Wright; previo examen clínico y su afiliación respectiva. La conducta de las perras, en su mayoría (48.15%), evidenció signos de celo observadas por la inmovilidad, escasa descarga vulvar y desviación de la cola (Feldman y Nelson, 1987). Para la interpretación de los extendidos celulares se consideró el predominio de células parabasales, intermedias y/o superficiales, correspondiendo a estro (36%), anestro (24%) e infección vaginal (22%).The present study was conducted with the purpose of relating the sexual behavior of the domestic dog (Canis familiaris) with vaginal cytology. Evaluation of Intangible Assets and Best Practices in a Medium-sized Port Community

AbstractThis paper analyses the main factors involved in the knowledge management of different actors participating in a Chilean port community. The intangible assets participating in the creation of value of the port community, which are expressed in ideas, attitudes, perceptions, experiences, information and knowledge management, are evaluated and classified according to community members’ core competencies. Then, the current situation of public institutions and companies participating in the port community is diagnosed utilizing interviews to experts and relevant actors. The role of the intellectual, structural, and social capital is examined in relation to strategic statements present in the missions of public and private port system companies. The results of the assessment enable to identify the main critical factors in knowledge management, transference, dissemination, collaboration and team work, storage, and best practices. In particular, the Conversation System stage of the Primary Model is analyzed and evaluated, as well as its causes, by actors of the port community and experts. Initiatives fostering collective work and encouraging conversations are proposed. Some of the best practices developed by the port community to create and disseminate stakeholders’ knowledge are presented. Multi-component colloidal gels:interplay between structure and mechanical proprieties

We present a detailed numerical study of multi-component colloidal gels interacting sterically and obtained by arrested phase separation. Under deformation, we found that the interplay between the different intertwined networks is key. Increasing the number of component leads to softer solids that can accomodate progressively larger strain before yielding. The simulations highlight how this is the direct consequence of the purely repulsive interactions between the different components, which end up enhancing the linear response of the material. A Simpler and Semantic Multidimensional Database Query Language to Facilitate Access to Information in Decision-making

OLAP and multidimensional database technology have contributed significantly to speed up and build confidence in the effectiveness of methodologies based on the use of management indicators in decision-making, industry, production, and services. Although there are a wide variety of tools related to the OLAP approach, many implementations are performed in relational database systems (R-OLAP). So, all interrogation actions are performed through queries that must be reinterpreted in the SQL language. This translation has several consequences because SQL language is based on a mixture of relational algebra and tuple relational calculus, which conceptually responds to the logic of the relational data model, very different from the needs of the multidimensional databases. This paper presents a multidimensional query language that allows expressing multidimensional queries directly over ROLAP databases. The implementation of the multidimensional query language will be done through a middleware that is responsible for mapping the queries, hiding the translation to a layer of software not noticeable to the end-user. Currently, progress has been made in the definition of a language where through a key statement, called aggregate, it is possible to execute the typical multidimensional operators which represent an important part of the most frequent operations in this type of database

Estrategias De Exportación Para El Limón Sutil De La Empresa Don Packing S.A.C. Tambogrande Hacia El Mercado De Chile, Año 2016

El presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como objetivo proponer estrategias de exportación para el limón sutil de la empresa Don Packing S.A.C al mercado chileno; a través del potencial de exportación, sistema de comercialización, determinación de la demanda y evaluación de la oferta. El tipo de estudio de la investigación según la finalidad fue aplicada, nivel descriptiva y la temporalidad fue transversal; mediante un diseño no experimental, ya que se identificó y se describió las características de las variables estudiadas para proponer estrategias de exportación. Las técnicas de análisis de datos fueron la encuesta aplicada al gerente de planta de la empresa objetivo y a las empresas exportadoras; la entrevista para los responsables de marketing y por último la guía de revisión documental para complementar el estudio del mercado. La población de estudio fue constituida por la empresa objetivo y siete empresas exportadoras de limón sutil y la muestra es igual a la población. Se concluyó que la empresa aún no tiene la experiencia exportadora de este cítrico, pero si depende de una serie de factores que deben ser completados simultáneamente, entre ellos tenemos la motivación de la empresa, el grado de compromiso con el objeto de salida, los recursos disponibles de la empresa, las características del sector y el producto, además se evidencia que cumple con el sistema de comercialización, ya que comercializará con mayoristas. Así mismo, cuenta con un nivel de demanda para exportar. Por otro lado, se analiza la oferta que tiene la empresa para el mercado
