Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the analgesic effect of lysine clonixinate, paracetamol and dipyrone after lower third molar extraction.Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 90 individuals, with clinical indication for inferior third molars extraction. The mean age of the sample was 22.3 years (DP±2.5). The individuals received the medication in unidentified bottles along with the intake instructions. The postoperative pain parameters were measured according to Visual Analogical Scale (VAS) and the data was evaluated using the Kruskal-Wallis Test and Friedman Test, with the latter used to test different time intervals for each one of the drugs. Results: The final sample consisted of 64 individuals, including 23 males (45.9%) and 41 females (64.1%) The mean age of the entire sample was 22.3 years (±2.5). The average length of the procedures was 33.9 minutes (±9.8).The distribution of mean values for this variable showed little variance for the different drugs (p=0.07).Conclusion: Lysine Clonixinate did not show any substantial impact on the postoperative pain control when compared to other drugs

The objective of this work was to study the influence of the combinations: biphosphonate (alendronate of sodium) + statin (calcic atorvastatin), biphosphonate (sodium alendronate) + flavonoid (ipriflavone) and statin (calcic atorvastatin) + flavonoid (ipriflavone) in female rats with osteoporosis induced by the glucocorticoid dexamethasone. The influence of the combinations of those drugs was observed through tests of the biochemical markers of bone remodeling, such as, levels of serum calcium and phosphorus and bone alkaline phosphatase and through histomorphometric exam, visualizing the bone trabecular density. Through the evaluation of the bone trabecular density it was possible to verify the clear increase in any group of treated animals. The combinations with biphosphonate presented high rates of bone tissue restoration, reaching higher values than those of normal animals. The results obtained with biochemical markers were not statistically significant and did not subsidies the diagnosis and the follow of the osteoporosis. However, the histomorphometric evaluation allowed us the static and dynamic analyses as well as detection of tissue alterations in the bone metabolic unit, particularly in the trabecular bone

The experiment aimed to study the effects of three levels (5; 10; and 15%) of L-Glutamic Acid (L-Glu) and four levels of vitamin D3 (VD) on the chemical composition of bones of broiler chicks, Hubbard. The purified diets used contained all essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals at adequate levels and were supplemented with of L-Glu and with 0, 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000 IU of vitamin D3. The experimental design was a factorial 3 x 4 with four replicates with seven chicks each. The highest content of femur ash (40.6%) and tibiotarsus ash (40.73%) was obtained with, respectively, 15% of L-Glu and 8,503 IU of VD and 15% of L-Glu and 15,000 IU of VD. There was no significant effect on calcium (37.01%) and phosphorus (20.55%) contents of tibiotarsus ash. The better Ca:P relationship on tibiotarsus was equal 1.80. The better Ca:P relationship of the femur (1.95) was obtained with 5% of L-Glu and 15,000 IU of VD. There was a reduction on magnesium contents of the femur with L-Glu and VD supplementation. The highest tibiotarsus magnesium content (1.2%) was obtained with 5% of L-Glu and 5,000 IU of VD. Although some differences were observed in the mineral composition of bones, the mineral contents were in physiological range and were not related with leg weakness incidence observed.

Virulence in Murine Model Shows the Existence of Two Distinct Populations of Brazilian Vaccinia virus Strains

Brazilian Vaccinia virus had been isolated from sentinel mice, rodents and recently from humans, cows and calves during outbreaks on dairy farms in several rural areas in Brazil, leading to high economic and social impact. Some phylogenetic studies have demonstrated the existence of two different populations of Brazilian Vaccinia virus strains circulating in nature, but little is known about their biological characteristics. Therefore, our goal was to study the virulence pattern of seven Brazilian Vaccinia virus strains. Infected BALB/c mice were monitored for morbidity, mortality and viral replication in organs as trachea, lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, brain and spleen. Based on the virulence potential, the Brazilian Vaccinia virus strains were grouped into two groups. One group contained GP1V, VBH, SAV and BAV which caused disease and death in infected mice and the second one included ARAV, GP2V and PSTV which did not cause any clinical signals or death in infected BALB/c mice. The subdivision of Brazilian Vaccinia virus strains into two groups is in agreement with previous genetic studies. Those data reinforce the existence of different populations circulating in Brazil regarding the genetic and virulence characteristics
