Correlated and Multi-frequency Diffusion Modeling for Highly Under-sampled MRI Reconstruction
Most existing MRI reconstruction methods perform tar-geted reconstruction of
the entire MR image without tak-ing specific tissue regions into consideration.
This may fail to emphasize the reconstruction accuracy on im-portant tissues
for diagnosis. In this study, leveraging a combination of the properties of
k-space data and the diffusion process, our novel scheme focuses on mining the
multi-frequency prior with different strategies to pre-serve fine texture
details in the reconstructed image. In addition, a diffusion process can
converge more quickly if its target distribution closely resembles the noise
distri-bution in the process. This can be accomplished through various
high-frequency prior extractors. The finding further solidifies the
effectiveness of the score-based gen-erative model. On top of all the
advantages, our method improves the accuracy of MRI reconstruction and
accel-erates sampling process. Experimental results verify that the proposed
method successfully obtains more accurate reconstruction and outperforms
state-of-the-art methods
Transcriptome profile analysis in spinal cord injury rats with transplantation of menstrual blood-derived stem cells
IntroductionMenstrual blood-derived stem cells (MenSCs) are vital in treating many degenerative and traumatic disorders. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain obscure in MenSCs-treating spinal cord injury (SCI) rats.MethodsMenSCs were adopted into the injured sites of rat spinal cords at day 7 post surgery and the tissues were harvested for total RNA sequencing analysis at day 21 after surgery to investigate the expression patterns of RNAs. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were analyzed with volcano and heatmap plot. DEGs were sequentially analyzed by weighted gene co-expression network, functional enrichment, and competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNA) network analysis. Next, expression of selected miRNAs, lncRNAs, circRNAs and mRNAs were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Bioinformatics packages and extra databases were enrolled to scoop the genes functions and their interaction relationships.ResultsA total of 89 lncRNAs, 65 circRNAs, 120 miRNAs and 422 mRNAs were significantly upregulated and 65 lncRNAs, 72 circRNAs, 74 miRNAs, and 190 mRNAs were significantly downregulated in the MenSCs treated rats compared to SCI ones. Current investigation revealed that MenSCs treatment improve the recovery of the injured rats and the most significantly involved pathways in SCI regeneration were cell adhesion molecules, nature killer cell mediated cytotoxicity, primary immunodeficiency, chemokine signaling pathway, T cell receptor signaling pathway and B cell receptor signaling pathway. Moreover, the lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA and circRNA-miRNA-mRNA ceRNA network of SCI was constructed. Finally, the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using the top 100 DE mRNAs. The constructed PPI network included 47 nodes and 70 edges.DiscussionIn summary, the above results revealed the expression profile and potential functions of differentially expressed (DE) RNAs in the injured spinal cords of rats in the MenSCs-treated and SCI groups, and this study may provide new clues to understand the mechanisms of MenSCs in treating SCI
NTIRE 2024 Quality Assessment of AI-Generated Content Challenge
This paper reports on the NTIRE 2024 Quality Assessment of AI-Generated
Content Challenge, which will be held in conjunction with the New Trends in
Image Restoration and Enhancement Workshop (NTIRE) at CVPR 2024. This challenge
is to address a major challenge in the field of image and video processing,
namely, Image Quality Assessment (IQA) and Video Quality Assessment (VQA) for
AI-Generated Content (AIGC). The challenge is divided into the image track and
the video track. The image track uses the AIGIQA-20K, which contains 20,000
AI-Generated Images (AIGIs) generated by 15 popular generative models. The
image track has a total of 318 registered participants. A total of 1,646
submissions are received in the development phase, and 221 submissions are
received in the test phase. Finally, 16 participating teams submitted their
models and fact sheets. The video track uses the T2VQA-DB, which contains
10,000 AI-Generated Videos (AIGVs) generated by 9 popular Text-to-Video (T2V)
models. A total of 196 participants have registered in the video track. A total
of 991 submissions are received in the development phase, and 185 submissions
are received in the test phase. Finally, 12 participating teams submitted their
models and fact sheets. Some methods have achieved better results than baseline
methods, and the winning methods in both tracks have demonstrated superior
prediction performance on AIGC
Atrasentan and renal events in patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease (SONAR): a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial
Background: Short-term treatment for people with type 2 diabetes using a low dose of the selective endothelin A receptor antagonist atrasentan reduces albuminuria without causing significant sodium retention. We report the long-term effects of treatment with atrasentan on major renal outcomes. Methods: We did this double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial at 689 sites in 41 countries. We enrolled adults aged 18–85 years with type 2 diabetes, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)25–75 mL/min per 1·73 m 2 of body surface area, and a urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR)of 300–5000 mg/g who had received maximum labelled or tolerated renin–angiotensin system inhibition for at least 4 weeks. Participants were given atrasentan 0·75 mg orally daily during an enrichment period before random group assignment. Those with a UACR decrease of at least 30% with no substantial fluid retention during the enrichment period (responders)were included in the double-blind treatment period. Responders were randomly assigned to receive either atrasentan 0·75 mg orally daily or placebo. All patients and investigators were masked to treatment assignment. The primary endpoint was a composite of doubling of serum creatinine (sustained for ≥30 days)or end-stage kidney disease (eGFR <15 mL/min per 1·73 m 2 sustained for ≥90 days, chronic dialysis for ≥90 days, kidney transplantation, or death from kidney failure)in the intention-to-treat population of all responders. Safety was assessed in all patients who received at least one dose of their assigned study treatment. The study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT01858532. Findings: Between May 17, 2013, and July 13, 2017, 11 087 patients were screened; 5117 entered the enrichment period, and 4711 completed the enrichment period. Of these, 2648 patients were responders and were randomly assigned to the atrasentan group (n=1325)or placebo group (n=1323). Median follow-up was 2·2 years (IQR 1·4–2·9). 79 (6·0%)of 1325 patients in the atrasentan group and 105 (7·9%)of 1323 in the placebo group had a primary composite renal endpoint event (hazard ratio [HR]0·65 [95% CI 0·49–0·88]; p=0·0047). Fluid retention and anaemia adverse events, which have been previously attributed to endothelin receptor antagonists, were more frequent in the atrasentan group than in the placebo group. Hospital admission for heart failure occurred in 47 (3·5%)of 1325 patients in the atrasentan group and 34 (2·6%)of 1323 patients in the placebo group (HR 1·33 [95% CI 0·85–2·07]; p=0·208). 58 (4·4%)patients in the atrasentan group and 52 (3·9%)in the placebo group died (HR 1·09 [95% CI 0·75–1·59]; p=0·65). Interpretation: Atrasentan reduced the risk of renal events in patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease who were selected to optimise efficacy and safety. These data support a potential role for selective endothelin receptor antagonists in protecting renal function in patients with type 2 diabetes at high risk of developing end-stage kidney disease. Design and baseline characteristics of the finerenone in reducing cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in diabetic kidney disease trial
Background: Among people with diabetes, those with kidney disease have exceptionally high rates of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality and progression of their underlying kidney disease. Finerenone is a novel, nonsteroidal, selective mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that has shown to reduce albuminuria in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) while revealing only a low risk of hyperkalemia. However, the effect of finerenone on CV and renal outcomes has not yet been investigated in long-term trials.
Patients and Methods: The Finerenone in Reducing CV Mortality and Morbidity in Diabetic Kidney Disease (FIGARO-DKD) trial aims to assess the efficacy and safety of finerenone compared to placebo at reducing clinically important CV and renal outcomes in T2D patients with CKD. FIGARO-DKD is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, event-driven trial running in 47 countries with an expected duration of approximately 6 years. FIGARO-DKD randomized 7,437 patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate >= 25 mL/min/1.73 m(2) and albuminuria (urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio >= 30 to <= 5,000 mg/g). The study has at least 90% power to detect a 20% reduction in the risk of the primary outcome (overall two-sided significance level alpha = 0.05), the composite of time to first occurrence of CV death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or hospitalization for heart failure.
Conclusions: FIGARO-DKD will determine whether an optimally treated cohort of T2D patients with CKD at high risk of CV and renal events will experience cardiorenal benefits with the addition of finerenone to their treatment regimen.

Foe and friend in the COVID-19-associated acute kidney injury: an insight on intrarenal renin-angiotensin system
Since the first reported case in December of 2019, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has became an international public health emergency. So far, there are more than 228,206,384 confirmed cases including 4,687,066 deaths. Kidney with high expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is one of the extrapulmonary target organs affected in patients with COVID-19. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the independent risk factors for the death of COVID-19 patients. The imbalance between ACE2-Ang(1-7)-MasR and ACE-Ang II-AT1R axis in the kidney may contribute to COVID-19-associated AKI. Although series of research have shown the inconsistent effects of multiple common RAS inhibitors on ACE2 expression and enzyme activity, most of the retrospective cohort studies indicated the safety and protective effects of ACEI/ARB in COVID-19 patients. This review article highlights the current knowledge on the possible involvement of intrarenal RAS in COVID-19-associated AKI with a primary focus on the opposing effects of ACE2-Ang(1-7)-MasR and ACE-Ang II-AT1R signaling in the kidney. Human recombinant soluble ACE2 or ACE2 variants with preserved ACE2-enzymatic activity may be the best options to improve COVID-19-associated AKI
Predicting the influence of microblog entries regarding public health emergencies
Predicting the influence of microblog entries regarding public health emergencies can help management departments improve the prospectiveness of decision making. In this study, we measure the influence of microblog entries regarding public health emergencies from their forwarding, comment and favorite counts. A microblog influence prediction model, which is comprised of user, time and content features, is proposed by using the random forest method and the BM25 Latent Dirichlet Allocation model (LDA-BM25). Microblog entries on the Ebola outbreak are selected as test data. Results reveal that the proposed model can accurately predict the influence of microblog entries regarding public health emergencies with the accuracy rate reaching 88.8%. Individual features, which play a role in the influence of microblog entries, and their influence inclination are also analyzed. The findings of the study can help management departments of public health emergencies predict the upcoming salient issues, and take appropriate measures in advance
Practical synthesis of methyl 7-(3-hydroxy-5-oxocyclopent-1-en-1-yl)-heptanoate
The key intermediate of misoprostol, methyl 7-(3-hydroxy-5-oxocyclopent-1-en-1-yl)-heptanoate was prepared from commercially available suberic acid in 40% yield over five steps. The key step involved a ZnCl2 catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction between furan and 2,9-oxonanedione. Sulfuric acid catalyzed methylation of 8-(furan-2-yl)-8-oxooctanoic acid followed by sequential reduction and ZnCl2 catalyzed Piancatelli rearrangement resulted in the formation of the key intermediate of misoprostol
